The Inner Demon
Those who have learned the deep lore of the Shadow Witches can perform magical rituals to draw upon the power locked away within themselves.
Spells call upon the aid of entities from another dimension to assist the caster or their target. There is intense debate over what exactly these entities are; they could be spirits, demons or something else altogether.
Spells can heal injuries, purge illness and poison, enhance strength or speed, review memories, spy on distant locations, predict future events, remove the need for food or water, refresh the mind and body without sleep and remove possessing entities.
Each spell requires a spell circle drawn on the ground or floor. The spell circle channels the magical energy involved, directing it towards the target - who must be in the circle - and making sure the spell doesn't attract attention from other entities who might want to possess the target.
Be warned: If the spell circle isn't suited to the spell being cast, its defensive nature will be partially or completely nullified.
Casting spells also requires chanting in a magical language which is supposedly demonic in orgin. The words used attract the entity helping and dictate what magical effect takes place at the end of the ritual.
Once the caster has the attention of the entity you want, you must pay them minor tribute to gain their assistance. For most entities, specific plants or shiny rocks will get the job done.
Magic normally fails after the target leaves the spell circle. Additional magic symbols on the target's skin - either as body painting or as a tattoo - can carry the effect outside the circle, sustaining it until the energy runs out.
