#shadow speaks

as some of you may know, i had a falling out with a friend of mine and it may have genuinely ruined my life. it's been incredibly hard to move on, i was hardcore swinging between heavy denial and very angry. at this point i still feel sad but i've really come to accept it. now mind you, this is all in terms of the friendship itself. unfortunately, this sitiuation blew up beyond my control and i've all but been ran out of school by this person and their group of friends. luckily, they quit so we no longer work together which means i get to keep the safe space and the community i've created at work.

on the bright side, i got accepted into one of the schools i applied to! so i won't have to deal with this for much longer. it does also mean i have to deal with another move but that was the case either way cause my family is moving back to the east coast (yay!) i also have some fun stuff planned. i'm got tickets to the valks v wings game tomorrow, i'm seeing scene queen for the third time in october + tickets to see baby miko in november plus some fun outings with family planned for the rest of the summer.

...It's difficult to quite put into the right words, but the analogy I can think of is that of appreciating the fire that lights your path even if you can never safely get close to it. Which is to say that I'm ambivalent towards my world's Sonic.

On the one hand, I've softened a lot towards him over the time I've known him. He's proven to me that the words both Amy and Chris spoke were true;people are trying to do their best even if the world can often be cruel to those who have hope, not through words but through his compassion and willingness to throw himself into danger. Hell, he went so far as to help me properly adjust to the modern world a few weeks after the Neo Metal Sonic incident.

On the other hand, I find quite a few of his habits... shall we say, repulsive. Although he inspires so much hope, he has several qualities that whilst I tolerate out of respect, I can't help but judge to some degree. He's been getting better lately but he used to be horrible at 'reading the room', his obsession with Chilli Dogs seems like a borderline health risk, his flippant disregard for accounting the specialties of people he happens to not be close to, I could keep going on...Granted, I'd be lying by omission if I pretended he's a complete asshat. But still, he certainly has an excess of qualities that irk me.

At the very least I consider him a close ally and a part of me does respect him for the symbol he's become to people across the world and beyond, myself included, but that doesn't warrant me ignoring his blatant flaws. So, to answer your question, I'd consider him a friendly rival, someone who pushes me to be better every time we meet. Honestly, in some ways, I still think the title of ultimate lifeform fits him well, but that's just all the more reason for me to surpass him, isn't it?
