oh man OH MAN these two are gonna be related because i COMPLETELY forgot about all this in the aftermath of The Great DL Stint Of 2017 until now, but:
canon: i actually think right now itās the rangers game at toronto from last may? marco went 6 innings, 1 ER on 4 hits (leadoff HR from shin soo choo on the very first pitch of the game lmao). as the story goesĀ (paywalled, sorry), luke signalled for a changeup, marco was like ??? and he shook him off.
āWe were just kinda laughing about it, honestly,ā Maile said. āIt just happened to be the first one that heās shaken off this whole year. Iām sure I caught him a little off-guard. ā
It will likely be the last time Estrada shakes Maile off, too.

headcanon: building off of the above - iāve had this image in my head for almost a year now of them like, post-game? and everyoneās a little giddy because winning against texas in toronto is always fun, and Marcoās got the W and luke was totally smug in the clubhouse after the game.
lukeās trying to go over some of the sequencing from earlier with marco and heās sitting justĀ on the wrong side ofĀ āfar apart enough for plausible deniabilityā. his thighās bumping against marcoās, practically on top of his actually, and he keeps trying to tell marco to focus but the mood in the clubhouse is contagious and heās too busy grinning to focus himself. at some point marcoās probably likeĀ āhonestly, why are we even doing this, we both know iām never gonna shake you off againā and. luke just grins, and shifts in a little closer.
