“alright, that’s all for class. submissions of your portraits to be in by friday.” junhyung swallows. right, the portrait assignment. they were assigned this project two weeks ago and he would have had more than enough time to work on it if he started then. while he usually procrastinates for his other assignments, he would jump at completing the hands-on ones that require him to create something, particularly in film and photography. this, however, proves to be the only photography assignment he is struggling with — he breezes through every other and scores pretty well on them too but this? he had no idea how he was going to complete it. and by friday? that leaves him a day. shoot.
there is something about photographing people that he finds so tedious — perhaps, it’s how raw and intimate the process feels and that terrifies him. it’s easier photographing scenery or other living things like animals and plants — basically, anything but people. it’ll be a lie if he said he never wanted to change that about him; he would love to add more portraits to his portfolio — he has seen some of the other photography club members’ portraits and they look amazing. junhyung, on the other hand, pretty much never submits any portraits and if he had to, they are always of the same person, his best friend, danbi. she is one of the very few people he feels comfortable enough to photograph and naturally, he approached her to model for him again but this time, she refused, saying something about how he should learn to get out of his comfort zone or he’ll never grow as a photographer — true. so, that leaves him here with an incomplete assignment and absolutely no clue what to do.
sure, he could easily just grab any person and get them to pose for his camera but he hates sending in work he doesn’t feel proud of. for someone who is so irresponsible with all his other work, he is quite the perfectionist when it comes to things he takes pride in and in this case, his photography. if not for the realisation that he was the only one left in class, he might just end up wallowing in self-pity for the next hour. junhyung silently groans as he gets up from his seat, clutching onto his camera around his neck as he drags himself down the hallway.
he continues to ponder on for a solution to his problem when he finds himself subconsciously wandering into lim village, headed for the tiger’s den — well, apparently, his solution was to get himself a drink. he runs his hand through his hair vexingly as he contemplates going for a drink (which will probably not stop at one, knowing him) and wasting even more time that he could be using to work on this assignment or getting down to work already. amidst his mental dilemma, he catches glimpse of a familiar figure, one that he has been pestering for the past few weeks, walking towards the student dormitories. his eyes lit up as he found himself a temporary distraction from his problem at hand, despite already being short on time. it’s no surprise that junhyung has poor priorities, particularly when it comes to girls. pretty girls.
junhyung meanders towards his target, his usual pompous grin already up and ready to get to work. when he reaches her side, he inches closer to make his presence known, nudging her with his elbow. “hi.”
