Hushed whispers in the darkness of a bedroom
As though light did not shine through everywhere
Everyone speaks about kinks as though ashamed
Of the normal taken only one step off sideways
Staying with your ex two years longer than sanity
Because they’d indulge that one odd fantasy –
I say nothing in judgement not sure how to explain
That I realized I was different when I loved the probe
The aliens don’t have gift shops the abductions darkness
Lights not meant for human eyes voices like shadows
But the probe opened up a whole new world of wonder
Shattered everything I thought I understood about me
I asked to stay and people don’t do that not to monsters
But nothing since had been the same impossible bliss
I wait at the window each night for that cold alien light
But they won’t return and all I have to settle for is sorrow
