Okay, I’m gonna rant about something that is kinda silly but is a good metaphor of how the world works.
Brazilian internet invented the term “sextou” and it’s used on fridays, because it means, literally, “fridayed” (sexta-feira = friday). The verb “sextar” (to friday) is used whenever brazilians go partying, or even just stay at home watching netflix. Sextar is just enjoying your friday doing whatever you want.
Every friday, instagram is filled with posts and stories of brazilians “sextando” (fridaying). The hashtag #sextou became a thing, like tbt, wcw and etc.
Here’s what I wanna rant about: english speaking internet found the hashtag and, somehow, they think there are only english speaking people in the world, and read “sextou” as “sex to u”. Now, if you get in the # on Instagram, guess what you’re gonna find? Yes, porn. People are ruining a thing that regular brazilian citizens like doing with porn videos. And probably the # is gonna be taken down because of that.
And that is a good metaphor of how the world works. Non-english speakers are there just doing their thing and one day english language centrism just destroys all the fun.
