hi, since you've had a hysterectomy i want to ask: do hysterectomies completely stop or decrease estrogen production significantly? if not, is there a surgery that'll significantly decrease or block estrogen production without hormonal low estrogen birth control (which ironically from my research acts as an estrogen blocker which maintains slight amount of estrogen through the lower dosage of it)? as youre aware i have a seizure disorder and I highly suspect my seizure disorder is triggered by estrogen increases in particular as my seizures and also orthostatic hypotension type symptoms are triggered by estrogen spikes but some doctors including my mom think its due to ALL hormones in particular spiking. would a hysterectomy do anything to reduce estrogen production so that I won't need hormonal birth control to control my seizures? i do have things to worry about surgically because I tend to bleed a lot but ideally a good surgeon can control that
hi! so, if you get a hysterectomy without oophorectomy (that is, a hysterectomy that leaves your ovaries intact) your body will continue to produce estrogen as normal and it will not trigger early menopause. i kept my ovaries and am not on HRT (i've been on T on and off, but have not injected it in 2+ years now, and had my hysto over 6 years ago) and have not had any problems.
if you do have an oophorectomy as well, my understanding is that this will trigger early menopause and you will likely (?) be recommended to be on some kind of hrt after that. parts of your body that are not your ovaries can still synthesize *some* estrogen, but significantly less. the main risk to removing your ovaries is that the subsequent drop in estrogen production can lead to major bone density issues, so you'll want to do your research on mitigating the risk of osteopenia/osteoporosis.
this is all what i know based on questions i've asked/researched by myself; i'm not (that kind of) doctor or endocrinologist. but if the question is just "will removing my ovaries lower my estrogen levels," the answer is yes.
