" ....and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord." -- Acts 11:23b Am I cleaving to the Lord? Your single years are a huge gift. Often we, especially girls, want to be in a relationship. There's usually a guy that seems awesome and you want to marry him, and so he gets all your attention and thoughts. And girls, crushes are okay. Personally I hope not to be in a relationship unless it is with the man I'm going to marry. But the day you get married, you are to cleave unto your husband. You will have a responsibility to him as a wife to support him and submit to his leading. That doesn't mean you'll be a slave. Women were created to be a help-meet to their husbands. It's a beautiful thing, ordained by God. Now, not every woman will marry, and if you don't, you have an awesome opportunity to serve our Saviour! So whether you know you're never going to say "I do" or whether you're patiently preparing yourself for your Prince Charming, what do you do in the meantime? "There is a difference also between a wife and a virgin (unmarried girl.) The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband." -- 1 Corinthian 7:24 If you aren't married, there's one thing you need to remember. We are the bride of Christ. If you aren't married, you're to give attention to your Heavenly Father -- cleave to Him, serve Him. The time you have as a single girl, you certainly won't have after marriage. Are you giving God your WHOLE heart? Are you in love with Him? Does your heart beat to serve Him? We don't need to worry about marriage. If we are serving Him, giving Him all of us, He'll allow things to fall into place, better than you could have imagined them. Beautiful love stories have happened simply because both the man and the woman were in desperate love with Christ Jesus, and God brought them together in that love and in their service. God, who knows all, sees all, and loves us deeply enough to shed His blood for us, surely knows the desires of our hearts. For me, He keeps His hand on my shoulder saying "not yet -- " and I knew He knows best. He's preparing me, and in the meantime I may burn out for Him -- because I love Him. I trust Him to care for my family, I trust Him never to leave me, I trust Him to bring about my love story in His flawless timing -- I trust Him. And so can you. -- M. M.
