if a Christian ever complains or asks why we should love our enemies— what good reason is there for loving someone who would willingly do you harm?
Because it’s what God did.
We tend to forget. Sinful man hates God.
We willingly killed Christ. But it wasn’t a surprise to Jesus. The Lord of heaven and earth willingly came down to a people who hated Him, and He did the most loving thing that has ever been done. He died for them. He took their judgement for them, and He gave everything righteous of Himself to a people who despised Him.
He chose us. He loved us first.
Love your neighbors. Love your enemies.
