Butterflies and Smiles
A serlina fic for @evallina!!
***
The restaurant was crowded, every chair occupied except for the one beside Evallinaâs. She looked up from her phone, aware of the apologetic stares that came her way. She scowled at nothing in particular, her eyes fixed on the door. When she saw a light-haired man through the glass door, she straightened, but it wasnât him, of course it wasnât. This guy at the door was older and leaner, his hair closely cropped in a buzzcut.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Pairing: Borlina, Serlina
A/N: I kept getting so many random ideas for this chapter that it took me longer to come up with a plot than to finish writing! xD Hope you'll like it @evallina ! :)

Dragonborn!" A woman joins us, probably in her early 50's, wrapped in many yards of fabric that make me inwardly wince at the thought of trying to go up or down the stairs. "You must be so honoured to be in the accompaniment of such a noble and upstanding man like our Paladin here." The way she smiled through her gushing words nearly make me roll my eyes. I knew when I saw or heard hollow complements. Even if they were dressed up.
"That's certainly one way of saying things." I say as I politely and watch as she takes a goblet from someone who is carrying a silver tray full of them.
"When I heard that he was bringing someone who is being called 'the Dragonborn', I must say, I was intrigued and looked into you."
"You must've had to work fast since he asked me only hours before." I supply and watch a coy smile grace her lips.
"I have many contacts that can work fast, but not many could come back to me with many details about you, specifically. Just tales of old, really."
"Is that so?" I frown a little. "I find that odd."
"How so?" She inquires, her head tilting slightly.
"I was in village a few days ago and there was a bard who had heard of my exploits and had started writing songs about it."
"And what are you saying, Dragonborn?" She snipped after taking a long drink of her own goblet. I kept my face passive as I tilted my head side to side in contemplation.
"I just can't help but think that perhaps you need better contacts."
"I see." She tsked, looking around to the other guests who had been occasionally looking in on our little snippet. "I feel horrible for not knowing anything that you have accomplished to raise a toast to you then." She dramatically sighed.
"Shame." She didn't seem to like the fact that I wasn't rising to her bait much. Her eyes flickered with a new light before a smile spread her dark painted lips.
"How about you make a toast then, in return for the honour to be his companion for the night and to be in the presence of all nobility in Skyrim?" She gestured to Casavir. "Surely that must be the most memorable things you have done in Skyrim so far."
"I don't think-"
"Everyone!" She called, looking around getting conversations to slow to a stop as she looked back to me, her hand upraised. "The lovely Dragonborn would like to say a few words for us." They didn't clap, no one cheered, hell, some didn't even bother to look our way, but many looked on and I resisted the urge to click my tongue at her.
"Thank you.." I look from Casavir, to the crowd around us and give my best smile I could manage. It wasn't until I caught that woman's smug face that had me straightening and putting my shoulder back. If she wanted a show.. I'll give her one. "Well, as a testament to our Paladin Casavir here's character and judge of thereof⌠He has chosen me to be his accompaniment for tonight's festivities. To say I am honoured.." I paused and momentarily struggled with what to say next, but with a small exhale, I met their gazes once more. "To say I am honoured would be an understatement of my own achievements and accomplishments, being past or present, so I will just simply say; you're welcome." I finish, my eyes not leaving that woman's gaze as she glares back to me. "Enjoy the festivities, everyone." I bow my head a little and pull on Casavir's arm. "Excuse me." I say and he lets me go.

Twoâs company
A serlina fanfic for @evallina! This was so much fun to write!
***
As the snow began to fall, Evallina glanced at her watch. With a frown, she looked up again, her gaze drifting to the concert hall behind her. The hall stood tall against the backdrop of a starry sky, its blue walls glowing under the moonâs silvery rays. Her eyes lingered on the entrance gate, searching for familiar faces. People flocked in, in hundreds, in thousands, but she could see no sign of her friends.
Sighing, Evallina closed her eyes and wrapped the jacket around herself tighter. She remained rooted to the spot as the bitter winter breeze struck her. The snowflakes tingled against her skin, and she shivered. She could sense a blizzard coming, but she did not want to leave yet.
âYou didnât have to wait out here,â a familiar voice said a moment later. âYouâll catch a cold.â
Evallina whirled around, her eyes meeting Sergeiâs. He raised a hand in greeting, and she returned the gesture, grinning. As he approached her, she took a second to survey him. As usual, heâd spiked his hair up, but unlike usual, he was dressed in a faded sweater and denim jeans. His sharp eyes were alight with an emotion she could not decipher, but she did not have long to dwell on it. As he took her hand, the blood rushed to her face.
âWhereâs the rest of the team?â Evallina asked quickly, trying to ignore her racing heart.
Sergeiâs brows rose. âTheyâre watching football. Manchesterâs playing.â
âTheyâre skipping Ming-Mingâs live concert for a league match?â
She tried to keep the incredulity out of her voice but failed. Evallina had never understood the boysâ craze for football. Even Yuriy and Kai, the more levelheaded members of the team, got fired up about it like the fate of the world depended upon which team won.
Sergei looked away. âYou know, I never said I invited the others. I only have two tickets. Itâs just you and me here.â
Silence set in between them. Evallina looked up at Sergei and her heart skipped another beat. Itâs just you and me here. In the several months theyâd known each other, not once had she gone places with him alone. On the few occasions when their schedules had aligned, sheâd never been able to work up the courage to ask him to go anywhere with her. Owing to this, sheâd assumed the rest of the team would be here too. Evallina tore her gaze away from him, trying to quiet her racing thoughts, but it was no use.
âSorry, I should have clarified what I meant sooner,â Sergei said, as he let go of her hand. âIf youâre not comfortable with just the two of us hanging out, I understand.â
âNo!â Evallina burst out. âI wasnât expecting it, thatâs all. Iâd love to go to the concert with you.â
His eyes were so full of surprise it took her aback for a second. Then, the look was gone, replaced by an expression she couldnât read.
âIf I told you this was a date, would you still say the same?â
Evallinaâs jaw dropped. Her heart pounded against her chest, and she felt as though someone had doused her in electric sparks. She stared at him for a second, noting the rising colour in his cheeks, her mind replaying his words again. A date. This was a date. Sheâd spent so long admiring him from the shadows sheâd never believed heâd been interested in her too. But looking back on it now, the signs had all been there all along. Heâd always believed in her and been there for her; and the sparks had been there in the way heâd smiled at her and in the small gestures. How had she not seen it until now?
Evallina grinned and took his hand again. âYes. Yes, I would.â
She knew she should say something more, but the ability to speak had deserted her.
âThatâs good to know,â Sergei said and smiled back at her. âIâve looked forward to this for so long.â
He had a faraway look in his eyes. Evallina smiled again, as they walked to the entrance, hand-in-hand. I like you, she wanted to say, but she knew there would be a better time and place for such a conversation. They were in public, surrounded by throngs of people, and running late for one of the most awaited concerts of the year. When it was over, sheâd tell him for sure. The thought left jitters in its wake, and she looked up at the snow, feeling like the happiest person in the world.
