               “  hey,  do  you  have  a  second  ?  ”  they’re  nervous  already,  palms  starting  to  sweat  from  the  thought  of  how  this  conversation  was  going  to  go.  “  there’s  something  i  need  to  talk  to  you  about.  it’s  important.  ”

     “     c’mon  ,  you  don’t  mean  that  ,  right     ?     this  is  a  joke     ?     ”

“ so ... ” max fiddles with her hands, generally calm but right now feeling unsure about just about everything she had to say. “ my coworker tried setting me up on this blind date, and i —— i sorta ended up agreeing to it. i mean, as far as they know, i’m not seeing anybody. ”
