The tradition and mood of swing songs differ very widely between North India and the south. Unlike the north where 'swinging' and singing is associated with happy occasions, especially the advent of spring, the swing is an architectural fixture in traditional south Indian homes and a woman could relieve her thoughts, joyous or otherwise, while on the swing.
