“Maybe I’ll summon a demon so I have someone to hang out with.” ∞ demon!taehyung
“I’m right here.”
You almost drop the lighter in your hand and scream, but you manage to suppress your reaction to a slight flinch, eyes squeezing shut in annoyance.
“I told you not to do that,” you sigh as soon as you get your heart rate in check, setting the lit candle down. A quick shift from your left makes raspberry-flavoured air drift over in your direction, the saccharine scent almost calming you down. Almost.
“What, appearing out of nowhere?” His voice is deep as the night but clear as day, and nearer than you expected. You don’t have to look up to know he’s leaning against the edge of the counter.
“That. And reading— no, peeping into my mind. Without permission.”
“I can't help it,” is all he says. No further explanation provided. He’s always been so... transparent and straight to the point. You would ask why, but you’d rather not drag the conversation longer than needed. He tended to be distracted by everything else - distracting you in the process, in ways more than one.
“Why aren't you collecting candy? Or going to the party where Hoseok is being an avocado?”
“How di- Nevermind.” You wave a hand in his general direction as if it’d dismiss his presence, moving over to the couch where you plop yourself on. “Why don't you go out? It’s the perfect time for you to like. Be yourself.”
“I would've,” he answers, and you hear footsteps stop next to you. He sits himself on the floor right in front of the couch so that he’s directly facing you, back straight as an arrow, legs folded and hands tucked neatly in his lap. Only Taehyung can make just sitting look almost.. regal. “—But only if you did.”
You raise a brow, skeptical. He probably meant that he only would've gone out if that included making your life miserable just because he can.
“What would you have been?” He asks suddenly.
“Huh?” You blink, and Taehyung locks onto the split second where you stare right into his eyes the way you do whenever you’re lost in conversation. He can count how many times you’d made eye contact and just as the thought comes you’re averting your gaze quickly before frowning, and Taehyung thinks you’re going to get wrinkles soon if you don't stop the habit.
“Don’t humans do that weird shit where they dress up as things... Stop frowning even more.”
You’re about to come up with a retort, but you purse your lips and reach for the remote instead when he speaks again.
“You’d be a good kitty cat.”
“What?” You start to wonder what in the everliving fuck goes on in his head to generate such an answer, when you feel a soft pressure under your chin. A nudge up and you’re looking straight into his eyes, heavy lashes drooping as his lips curl in a coy grin. At this point, noise from the television is completely drowned out because Taeahyung is being just so loud in the most silent of ways.
“You look like a cat somehow whenever you’re sorting the laundry... and you take naps on the spot where the sun shines through the blinds and... and you like being stroked on the head and under your chin?”
“You don't.. you don't know the last one...?” you say even as your eyes almost drift shut when a large, almost forgiving warmth rested on your head and glides down.
“What was that?”
“Stop,” it comes out whinier than you allow, and suddenly Taehyung is all you hear, see, and feel. “You’re using it again.”
“I’m not, you’re just sensitive to touch,” he cocks his head at his own discovery, making a mental note of the various ways he could use this in the near future to get what he wants.
“Don’t cats like to cuddle too?” he asks even though he knows the answer because it’s unfair how his warmth is just right and your head fits just right into the space where his shoulder meets his arm and—
“You're such a demon.”
A chuckle escapes him off-guard, amused as he trails a finger halfway down your spine and leaving goosebumps in its trail.
“That, I am.”
