     He’d meant it as a joke; honestly. There was always some idiot that would look out across the devastation, the oncoming storm, the inevitable death of everyone and everything they once held dear, and remark that, well, there was always time for one last bang before everything went to shit. And, seeing as nobody else had seemingly been capable of surveying the destruction and seeing the upside to it all, he’d just assumed he should be that person. 

     He hadn’t actually thought it would work. 

     She’d given him a shrug ( YadōmaruLisa- he remembered her from long, long ago. She’d had mile long legs and a physique that had made his much younger self fluster at the very sight of her ) and he’d accepted it, happy in the knowledge that there were others out there that shared his dry humour- and happier yet to find them here, where he could only assume he would eventually die. ( he wasn’t in denial; there were a hundred people willing to stick his own zanpakuto between his ribs and almost every one of them within earshot )
