Booker's record 25-hour speech against Trump, Musk, is the longest speech ever on the Senate floor

After starting a marathon speech at 7 p.m. Monday, Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., spent the night on the Senate floor railings railing against President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

More than 24 hours later, at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, Booker broke the record for the longest Senate speech, finally resigning at 8:05 p.m.

Before breaking the speech record set nearly 70 years ago by former Sen. Strom Thurmond, D/R-S.C., Booker surrendered to Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., so he could ask the New Jersey senator a question.

Since 1975 there have been no Americans killed by citizens in the 7 countries Donald Trump has banned. Yet there are refugees who are in need of America's strength, safe harbor and light. To enter the US as a refugee takes between 1 and 3 years and involves the most rigorous screening. Trump's executive order does not make us more safe but arguably makes us less so as it weakens our standing in the world and undermines our isolating of our real enemies. Together, we must continue to fight this injustice. We must resist and persist in forcing Trump to retract this ban. This executive order marks an historic low in American foreign policy, we must now work to take our country to the high ground of history again. We are Americans: No hate, no fear.
