              his mother didn't conform to any societal expectations of what a mother should be and what she should offer to her children, and this from the very beginning had an impact on the psychological process that goes on in sirius' mind when it comes to conveying and expressing emotions. but it is also worth noting that sirius has never seen eye to eye with his family and he was no stranger to being very vocal in disagreeing with their views and their values, which he would have found a way to ignore to some extent, had they not been forced onto him. nonetheless, even this would get him in unwanted situations, given that walburga would punish him severely for what she considered to be grave violations of their family code. and so it became a defense mechanism, at that point, to avert sharing his beliefs and his feelings. 

              bearing this in mind, there is one person who makes him feel as though he is overflowing with feeling and emotion, and it sometimes comes spilling down irregardless of his learning experience. this is not to say that it is a great exception to the rule, because he doesn’t see it that way, but remus has his way of always bringing something new to his life.

              having been convinced from an early age that everything he comes near will eventually end up broken or dysfunctional, sirius never had any high hopes about creating bonds like he did in his first year at school. but even now, years after the marauders were introduced to each other and formed their little inseparable group, there are still things that surprise sirius. being invited to stay at the potters’ was one such surprise. another thing is how, despite the major and significant differences between them, remus’ presence remained constant along the years and the other boy never let those defining differences deter him from being sirius’ friend. somehow, he’d never felt the same fearful that james might one day see him for what he was meant to be and choose to part ways with sirius, but that feeling is very much alive and thriving when it comes to remus. 

              as such, every day that remus is still there, talking to him, joking with him and laughing at his jokes is, in sirius’ book, a blessing. this boy came into sirius’ life and accepted him and his flaws just as sirius accepted his and who taught sirius more about life and what matters than anyone else could’ve, though james did his fair share of teaching sirius what is truly valuable in life.
