ok here's your real gift. happy birthday anna.
Taekwoon was never a man of words. Or feelings. He was an observer. He watched people from afar and hoped they wouldn't bother him in the process because bothering him meant he had to put words in his mouth and expressions on his face. He didn't like it. So when Hakyeon entered his life, he wasn't really that happy.
Cha Hakyeon was the new employee his manager hired at the coffee shop. He was bubbly, talked a lot (Taekwoon was about one hundred percent sure he never stopped talking), smiled half the time, and tried to make friends with everybody. Naturally, Taekwoon observed him. Within days, maybe even hours, Hakyeon had already become friends with the rest of the people at the coffee shop and even some customers. It wasn't natural but it had somehow happened. Taekwoon watched in slight horror, slight admiration as each person seemed to fall under Hakyeon's charm. Even Do Kyungsoo, one of the chefs and a guy that Taekwoon had felt slightly connected to despite not talking to him a lot, had befriended the new employee. If the kind-of-evil chef that probably silently hated everybody could become friends with Hakyeon, Taekwoon knew he was going to be next.
And he was right because only a week after Hakyeon arrived, he approached Taekwoon. At this, he had received frantic head shaking from Sanghyuk, the high school student that part-timed, and whispers of “Wait, what are you doing? Oh my god,” from Jaehwan, the other insanely talkative guy. Hakyeon seemed to ignore the two and he still greeted Taekwoon. It was a simple “hi” though, so Taekwoon tried to tone down his I-hate-everything-and-everybody aura to nod back at Hakyeon. He may not be the most social person but he knew his manners. This obviously didn't seem like the case for the other workers because they all stared at him in shock as if he never did this before (okay, he never really did) and Hakyeon took this as signal for 'it's alright, you can start bothering me now'.
For the next few days, Hakyeon talked to Taekwoon ranging from short greetings to long ramblings about the day. Taekwoon honestly could care less about what the other had to say. After a while, he stopped acknowledging him to get the point across that Hakyeon was annoying the hell out of him and he should stop before Taekwoon murders somebody. The other never seemed to take the hint, though, so Taekwoon suffered through it all. It was a miracle how Taekwoon managed to survive all of that.
It was only a matter of time before Taekwoon really exploded. That day came not too long after. It was almost three weeks since Hakyeon started talking to him and he swore he was about to go crazy. He couldn't take it anymore, not another peep. The talking was becoming overboard, especially with Taekwoon taking extra, extra special care to make the atmosphere as cold as possible that even Kyungsoo seemed to flinch back in fear. And Kyungsoo was the one with the knives (although not too sharp since there wasn't much of a use for knives in a coffee shop). So when Hakyeon stepped through the door to the employee room that day, Taekwoon turned his 'I'm-going-to-kill-somebody' look on full power and told him straight up (albeit quietly because he wasn't going to waste more breath), “Don't talk.”
Surprisingly, the whole room got quiet. There were seven of them in there, all changing or getting ready to change for the next shift. Taekwoon wasn't expecting this much power but the other six had all gone quiet due to fear that Taekwoon would chop their heads off or due to shock that Taekwoon actually spoke. He was pretty sure there were some that were a mixture of the two. Hakyeon, on the other hand, was the latter but he recovered so quickly, it shocked Taekwoon instead.
“You talked. Oh my god, you actually talked,” Hakyeon clapped his hands together and smiled so widely, it hurt Taekwoon's eyes just to see it. He definitely wasn't expecting this reaction. But then, he realized that oh, Hakyeon just completely didn't listen to him.
To cover up his surprise, he glared at Hakyeon and hissed, “I said. Don't. Talk.”
Hakyeon seemed to take it lightly because he just shrugged his shoulders and nodded, humming a little.
Taekwoon thinks Hakyeon is the bane of his existence.
The coffee shop Taekwoon worked at took pride in the fact that it's always open, twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. To customers, especially college students that were pulling all-nighters, this was the best thing to ever happen. To Taekwoon, it was pure torture and a way to get his murderous intent up in the span of two minutes. To add on to that, he was assigned to graveyard shift with none other than Cha Hakyeon. Oh, how he loved his life at that moment.
Right from the moment they started working, Hakyeon never let his mouth stop running. He talked animatedly to the customers that were there, miraculously giving them life despite the unholy hour and, when there were no customers at the register, he tried to talk to Taekwoon, who desperately pretended he was busy to avoid such talks. It eventually became futile, though, especially when there were no more customers (except for that lone straggler near the back that looked like he was falling asleep anyways) and when Taekwoon had already cleaned the coffee machine, the counter, and practically the entire store. He really didn't have any other choice than to talk to – more like listen to – Hakyeon. He subjected himself to his misery.
It started off pretty normally, considering the person that was doing the talking. It was mostly about what happened earlier in the day, ranging from Sanghyuk almost tripping with a drink in hand while walking towards the counter from the coffee machine (which didn't make sense to Taekwoon because they were literally two small steps away; whatever, he never understood his coworkers anyways) to Hongbin being straight out hit on by one of the younger, probably still in high school female customers. Hakyeon's imitation of the event was notorious. Taekwoon almost laughed. Almost. It was a close call because he didn't want Hakyeon to think that he thought his storytelling was funny in any way, shape, or form. But then, when Hakyeon started retelling an incident where he ran to work in his pink, unicorn print, very manly pajamas because he overslept, Taekwoon couldn't help but snort. It was so insanely stupid and so insanely Hakyeon. It got kind of quiet after Taekwoon's repressed laughter and Hakyeon was staring at him strangely as if Taekwoon was the one that was weird (which he kind of was but Hakyeon was weirder so who's got the advantage here). Then, Hakyeon broke into a grin, that same shit-eating grin from that time Taekwoon had told him to shut up, and he clapped.
“You laughed,” he pointed out.
Taekwoon shook his head in protest.
“Oh, don't try to hide it from me. I have a radar for happiness and your happiness is starting to increase.”
Taekwoon raised an eyebrow and quietly retorted, “That's so stupid.”
“You even talked!” Hakyeon exclaimed and he leaned forward, waving his hand as if he was trying to coax Taekwoon to doing more. Ha, I'm not an animal, he thought and firmly kept his mouth shut. After realizing it was no use, Hakyeon pouted and leaned away from Taekwoon's personal space.
“But has anything weird ever happen to you before? I mean, you don't talk most of the time so I don't think there's much you can do to embarrass yourself.”
Taekwoon would like to protest that no, it's possible to have embarrassing things happen to you even when you don't speak, but he didn't know whether the desire to prove Hakyeon wrong or the desire to not give Hakyeon the satisfaction of hearing him speak a third time was stronger. Eventually, after a very short conflict with himself, he went with the former. It wasn't like he could prove Hakyeon wrong if he didn't speak at all and he could take advantage of the time away from all their coworkers to talk a little more. Besides, if he talked around the others, they would all just stare at him like he's from another planet and maybe look a little in awe that yes, Taekwoon had a voice and yes, he can use it. At least Hakyeon knew that his voice somewhat existed after hearing it twice before.
So Taekwoon opened his mouth and recounted the time when he was serving some hardcore Christian that thought he was some Satan reincarnate and tried to perform some holy ritual to rid him of the Devil. Hakyeon listened in rapt attention (it might also be the fact that if he didn't concentrate hard enough, he might've missed every word of the story) and promptly burst out laughing after Taekwoon said that the customer was almost brought to tears because he didn't seem to be anywhere near cleansed. Taekwoon couldn't help but crack a small smile. He kind of enjoyed this. Kind of.
Somehow, through the rest of the shift, they chatted about funny events that have happened so far at the coffee shop. Even though Hakyeon did most of the talking, Taekwoon found himself at times contributing to the conversations. He hasn't exactly opened up to someone like this in a long time (but then maybe it was just the late night and he never really was himself at two in the morning). When the sun finally peeked over the horizon, signaling the near end to their shift, Hakyeon had turned to Taekwoon, eyes shining (which made Taekwoon a little scared because he already learned that was a look of determination), and asked, “Are we friends now?”
Taekwoon was a bit taken aback and he stared at Hakyeon. Were they? They talked for a while and he was actually able to say more than one sentence to him but that didn't necessarily make them friends, right? At least, Taekwoon didn't want to acknowledge that possibility because he had done such a good job avoiding Hakyeon's friendship for this long already. Finally, after a few more moments of silence, he shrugged and said, “I guess.”
Hakyeon looked at him carefully then reached out a hand and neck-chopped him gently. “After all we've been through?”
Taekwoon rolled his eyes. “I'm starting to question why I went through all that with you.”
“It's because you love me, of course.”
Taekwoon stared at him. He scrutinized Hakyeon from head to toe and narrowed his eyes. That statement was a little too far. He shook his head. “Nope, we're not even slightly close to friends,” and he promptly left the coffee shop.
“Why are you ignoring meeeee?”
“Ooooooo, Taekwoon, talk to me.”
Taekwoon groaned and fought the urge to smack his head against the counter. It's been half an hour since his shift started and Hakyeon hasn't once stopped annoying him. After that night shift, Taekwoon was done. He didn't think he would be able to handle Hakyeon anymore. But Hakyeon was never one to give up easily so he's been trying to annoy Taekwoon into talking to him for days now. Well, he wasn't going to give in. Not now. Not ever.
“What,” he asked irratably. Damn it, not again, he thought.
Okay, so maybe Taekwoon might or might not have lied about never ever giving in to talk to Hakyeon. But it was once! Or maybe twice. Or actually almost every time Hakyeon tried to talk to him. For some reason, he felt slightly obligated to respond to Hakyeon even if he didn't want to. It was that stupid title. Friends. Ha, he scoffed in his head. Like we're anything near that.
Hakyeon, on the other hand, believed that title meant everything. He kept trying to talk to Taekwoon right from the moment he entered the shop (“Hellooo, Taekwoon!” Hakyeon would call) to the end of the shift, however long that may be. To Hakyeon, it also meant that he had the obligation to come up with a nickname for him and also to basically announce to the whole world that they were friends (but the way Hakyeon said it made it sound like they were dating after years and years of pining over each other; euck). Even the coworkers seemed slightly terrified when Hakyeon had burst in one day to work and sang out, “Taekwoon and I are friends!” Taekwoon remembered to kick Hakyeon hard after that, almost to signal to the others that nope, it's just a figment of Hakyeon's imagination.
Taekwoon woke up to the sound of his phone vibrating annoyingly on his night stand. He glanced at his alarm clock and almost screamed when he saw the time. In big, bright red numbers, it read, 3:00 AM. He faceplanted into his pillow. Whoever was calling or texting him could wait. He needed his precious sleep more. He just shifted into a comfortable position when the phone vibrated again. He didn't move. It vibrated again. Taekwoon groaned. Right in the middle of the third vibrate, he finally threw his covers off of himself in irritation and grabbed his phone.
Okay, what the fuck, Taekwoon thought. Who would want to text me at three? He opened his phone anyways and stared at the texts in bewilderment. They were of very familiar terms apparently because they read Taekwoooooooonie and why you ignore me and I thought you loved me :(
Taekwoon didn't know anybody that would ever say these things to him except one and- oh dear god. Oh dear god, no. Taekwoon had taken special care to never let him ever know his phone number so this would never happen. Maybe he just got smart and asked somebody else for his number. Damn it, Taekwoon was going to kill that person that gave his number away. Still, he had to double check if it really was the person he thought it was. He dreaded the answer when he finally texted back, what in the world who the hell r u.
His phone vibrated again with the new text message. He found his dread confirmed when he opened it.
Taekwoon threw his phone across the room.
“Wow, you look like shit,” Jaehwan said.
Taekwoon glared at the other. Jaehwan kind of squeaked and hid behind his hands. Taekwoon just scoffed and buried his head in his hands. The night before was torturous. After Taekwoon had thrown his phone across the room, he could still hear it vibrating next to the wall with every single damn text Hakyeon sent him. No matter how many times he bunched his covers up around his ears or how tight he wrapped the pillow around his head, he could still hear his phone. What was even worse was that he could practically hear Hakyeon whining in his head. He ended up spending the rest of the night tossing and turning in bed as Hakyeon for some unholy reason kept texting him.
Speak of the devil, Hakyeon bounced into the shop, somehow bright and cheery as if he didn't disturb somebody who very much needed their sleep the night before. Taekwoon concluded that Hakyeon survived on the blood of the innocent because it was definitely not possible that he looked like he usually did, if not more cheerful, while Taekwoon looked – for lack of a better word – like shit.
“Taekwoonie! Why didn't you answer me last night?”
“Last night?” Jaehwan asked, eyebrow quirked. That was definitely going to be the topic of Jaehwan's conversations for the next few days, Taekwoon groaned in his head.
“Yeah, Taekwoon here kept ignoring me when I texted him.”
Jaehwan's face made Taekwoon want to punch something. Preferably Jaehwan himself.
Taekwoon always liked children and animals. They were easy to deal with because he didn't have to talk to them too much and wouldn't judge him if he didn't talk. But he never thought that somehow, some way, Hakyeon would be roped into one of the many things he liked a lot.
Taekwoon was at the park, watching the children play on the playground fondly when he felt something nudge his foot. He glanced down and spotted a dog, mouth open and tail wagging. He smiled and bent down to pet it when he heard somebody shout.
Oh my god, Taekwoon thought. He knew that voice a little too well.
One of the many reasons why Taekwoon went to the park was because he needed to have time away from work all to himself without any annoying coworkers near him. But there Hakyeon was, standing all proud and smiley and maybe looking a little worried too as he searched for “Jjangu.” Taekwoon silently prayed that the dog that was nudging his hand didn't go by the name Jjangu. Obviously, God was never in his favor because when Hakyeon called the name again, the dog jerked its head in his direction. Taekwoon glanced up quick enough to see Hakyeon's face light up when he finally spotted the dog. He kept his head down and hoped that Hakyeon would never notice him. As God has shown him time and time again, he was never this lucky. When Hakyeon neared him, he seemed to immediately recognize Taekwoon.
“Is that you, Taekwoonie?”
He internally sighed and looked up, glaring at him. “No.”
“It is you, Taekwoon! What are you doing with Jjangu?” Hakyeon didn't even wait for Taekwoon to respond before he answered for him. “Ah, did he come find you?”
Taekwoon shrugged and absentmindedly scratched behind Jjangu's ear. Its tail wagged faster and its back leg started thumping against the ground and Taekwoon unconsciously smiled. Hakyeon plopped down on the bench next to him.
“You're smiling,” he pointed out.
Taekwoon shook his head but when Jjangu continued to rub against his leg, he couldn't fight the grin off his face.
“Oh my god, where's my camera, you're smiling,” Hakyeon made a move to grab his phone out of his pocket and pretended to take a few pictures. He laughed but it was quickly cut off when Taekwoon smacked his hand onto Hakyeon's chest.
“Alright, alright, I'm shutting up. But please hand over the dog, it's not mine and my friend will kill me if he finds out I let a coworker take his dog.”
Taekwoon nodded and picked up the dog. It wriggled in his grasp before he placed it onto Hakyeon's lap. Almost immediately after, it tried to scramble out and crawl towards Taekwoon again. Hakyeon sighed. “It's been trying to get away from me ever since I first had to dogsit it. I think it doesn't like me.”
You don't say, Taekwoon thought as he pet the dog again.
“Why does he like you more than me?”
He shrugged but then really thought about it. Maybe there was a reason after all... “I think it's because you talk too much,” he said quietly.
“What?” Hakyeon seemed shocked for some reason. “I don't talk too much!”
Taekwoon fought down the laugh that was bubbling in his throat. “Yes, you do. You talk more than a normal person should.”
Hakyeon opened his mouth – probably to say something – but seemed to think against it, instead opting to firmly shut his mouth as if to protest that he didn't talk a lot. They sit there in silence – a first out of many – before Hakyeon (unsurprisingly) spoke first.
“Do you really think I talk too much?” he sounded a little hurt and Taekwoon felt sorry for ever telling him that because however annoying his talking was, it made up who Hakyeon is. But he's still not missing out on a chance to tell Hakyeon to stop annoying the hell out of him so he brings up a hand with two fingers a few centimeters apart.
“Ooooo,” Hakyeon nodded. He quieted down again but then piped up only a few moments later, “Hey, I have a suggestion.”
Taekwoon gave him a side glance and motioned for him to go on.
“If I agree to talk less, will you talk more instead?”
He stilled. He didn't know what to do with that. There were two things that would result from this. One, Hakyeon would stop talking but then Taekwoon would have to talk instead or two, Hakyeon would talk just as annoyingly but Taekwoon could still keep his quiet. This was such a difficult choice. So, Taekwoon did the one thing he was good at.
Later that night, he texted Hakyeon one word and turned his phone on silent to avoid the noise that would soon follow from the flurry of texts Hakyeon would definitely send back.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO?” Hakyeon shouted once he entered the back room. Taekwoon continued buttoning up his uniform and glanced up only slightly to snort at Hakyeon's angry shocked face. Hakyeon huffed and marched up to him, repeating the question and poking him in the chest. He shrugged in response, taking slight pride in the fact that Hakyeon's face contorted into a scowl.
Hakyeon turned as if to leave but then realized something, “And you didn't answer my texts!”
Taekwoon shrugged again and pointed at the clock. Hakyeon huffed when he realized their shift started and they needed to be outside of the back room.
“Don't think you're getting out of this,” Hakyeon said menacingly before he breezed out the door, already sporting his cheery work smile.
At least... that was what Taekwoon wished with all his might would happen.
Instead, the next day at work, Hakyeon had barrelled through the door and tackled Taekwoon into a hug, squealing, “Oh my god, you said yes!”
“What, to a marriage proposal?” Jaehwan commented loudly to the side. “Dang, Hakyeon, you move fast,” he whistled.
Hakyeon pulled back to roll his eyes at his coworker. “No, idiot. Me and Taekwoon made a deal that if I talk less, then he has to talk more.”
“And he agreed to that? Are you sure you didn't blackmail him into doing this?”
“I did no such thing! God, Jaehwan, I thought you thought better of me-”
For the first time since Hakyeon came in, Taekwoon finally spoke up. “You know, for somebody that promised not to talk too much, you are speaking a whole lot. Oh, and it's Taekwoon and I not me and Taekwoon.”
Hakyeon simply smacked him but Jaehwan was in slight awe. “Holy crap, he spoke more than five words. Hakyeon, what kind of black magic have you performed?”
“I think it's my natural charm,” he replied, batting his eyelashes.
Hakyeon only narrowly escaped getting kicked by Taekwoon.
For some reason, even when he didn't talk so much, Hakyeon somehow still annoyed Taekwoon. He managed to worm his way not only into Taekwoon's work life but also into his semi-personal life. Just suddenly, one day, when Taekwoon didn't have a shift until later that day, Hakyeon was sitting on the bench in the park, the place that Taekwoon called his sanctuary away from his coworkers, especially Hakyeon himself. The only thing that stopped Taekwoon from turning away and leaving the park and Hakyeon behind was the dog in Hakyeon's hands.
“Jjangu!” he called softly, running forward to pluck the dog from Hakyeon's grasp.
“Hi, Taekwoon,” Hakyeon smiled. Taekwoon spared him a glance, nodded and went back to cooing over the dog.
Hakyeon didn't seem to mind too much of his silence afterwards, opting instead to watch Taekwoon play with the dog. Taekwoon pretended that he couldn't see Hakyeon blatantly staring at him the whole time.
Somehow, they bonded over these moments at the park. Although it was mostly spent in silence, they learned some things about each other in the moments when their mutual silence was interrupted. Personally, Taekwoon believed that he only managed to spill so much about his personal life because he was distracted by the dog (why else would he ever let slip that he liked children a lot or that he almost always preferred animals over people?) but over time, he started to realize that maybe it wasn't him being distracted; rather, it was more the need for somebody to know him.
At first, he tried to convince himself that it definitely wasn't the case but the more he thought about it, the more he realized that he always wanted somebody to know him better. He's always been longing for that moment where he wasn't alone and somebody knew him past his quiet front. He's always wanted it but he's also been afraid of exposing himself. So whenever he met somebody new, he would try to push them away before they got too close. And they let him; they let him push them away and they never seemed to bother to get close. But then, Cha Hakyeon walked into his life, face bright and cheery, and when Taekwoon tried to push him away, he pushed right back. He pushed back until Taekwoon couldn't push anymore and he could do nothing else but let him in and give him a little sneak of the Taekwoon underneath everything else.
`But it wasn't all for a loss because Hakyeon let Taekwoon see a little bit of him too. It wasn't everyday that Taekwoon would find out that Hakyeon was afraid of bugs or that he could sing (but the expense of that was Hakyeon finding out that Taekwoon could sing too) or that he still played on the playground shamelessly and did so while watching Taekwoon play soccer with the children (another thing Hakyeon found out about Taekwoon in exchange for his own). Taekwoon also found out that Hakyeon was a terrible person to tell secrets too because when they were sitting on the bench in silence, Taekwoon a bit tired out from playing with the children, Hakyeon let slip that Jjangu wasn't his dog. Taekwoon obviously was a bit disappointed but then Hakyeon went on to say that Jjangu was Jongin's, another one of their coworkers.
“Have you been secretly stealing Jjangu away from him or something?”
“Nah, Jongin wants me to dogsit him sometimes especially when Kyungsoo- holy crap,” Hakyeon quickly shut his mouth and stared at Taekwoon with wide eyes.
“Kyungsoo what?” he asked.
“Not supposed to say.” Taekwoon nudged him and Hakyeon's resolve quickly broke. “Alright. Don't tell anybody,” Taekwoon snorted; like he could tell anybody else, “But Jongin has this massive massive crush on Kyungsoo and he's always been trying to catch his attention and Kyungsoo would go to his house a lot and Jongin didn't really want Jjangu under his feet so he would tell me to dogsit.”
Taekwoon nodded his head in understanding but then a thought hit him. “You mean Jongin, that smooth talking dancer, has fallen for evil Kyungsoo?” Hakyeon nodded his head slowly. Taekwoon whistled (or at least he attempted to; he can't whistle at all). “Big surprise there.”
Silence ensued and Taekwoon focused his attention back on the children playing on the playground. When a young girl climbed onto the swing and a boy pushed her higher and higher, he heard Hakyeon quietly ask, “If Kyungsoo and Jongin are possible, will you and I be a possibility too?”
Taekwoon pretended he never heard him.
Taekwoon has never really known his sexuality. He's never really been in a relationship nor did he ever really like anybody before. He guessed he was kind of asexual since he hated people so much but then it wouldn't make too much sense because he just didn't feel right labeling himself as asexual. He guessed that maybe he just wanted somebody there for him and that he was always waiting for the right one. Up until that point, Taekwoon has never really liked anybody because they never showed enough interest in getting closer to Taekwoon or even trying to learn more about him. But then, Cha Hakyeon happened. He waltzed through the doors of the coffee shop into Taekwoon's work, into his personal life and somewhere along the way, into his heart, too.
Taekwoon honestly didn't know what to do with these feelings. He's never had them before. He wished he had somebody to confide in about this but the only one that bothered to be close to him was Hakyeon and Taekwoon was not about to let the other know his feelings so quickly. Not when he still firmly told him he hated his overly affectionate state (but eventually, Taekwoon meant it in a more fond way because Hakyeon basically shows enough love to be shared between the two of them). So, like all the other emotions Taekwoon has, he bottles up his thoughts and feelings of Hakyeon inside him and tries to go about his day as normally as he can (which was actually easier than he thought because even with his newfound feelings for Hakyeon, he still hated how he annoyed him from the moment he woke up to the moment he went to sleep).
Taekwoon was on the soccer field at the park with Hakyeon. He was dribbling the ball around the other, running around in crazy, uneven circles. Hakyeon watched him with bright eyes, laughing. “So good, oooooo, so cool!” he called.
Taekwoon grinned and ducked his head, focusing on the ball moving back and forth between his feet. He kicked it into the awaiting goal.
“GOAAAAAAAL!” Hakyeon cheered for him. Taekwoon turned around to see Hakyeon jumping up and down in place, waving his arms crazily.
“Do you want to try?” he asked.
Hakyeon immediately paled. “Sports don't like me.”
But Taekwoon wasn't taking any of it and he kicked the ball towards Hakyeon, who clumsily stopped it with his foot. “First one to five wins.”
Hakyeon stayed in his place, staring down at the ball like it was a foreign object. Taekwoon gestured for him to play and Hakyeon hesitantly started doing a very messy rendition of dribbling. Taekwoon allowed him to go halfway towards the goal before he stole it from right under his feet.
“HEY!” Hakyeon yelled, spinning around to look at him in bewilderment. “You're supposed to go easy!”
“I am!” Taekwoon called back, laughing as he ran towards the other end of the field. Hakyeon sprinted after him. Their voices echoed through the empty field.
The score was 4-4. Although Hakyeon definitely never touched a soccer ball in his life, he was pretty good for an amateur. Taekwoon was pretty surprised when all four goals were made right underneath his nose. They were in the center of the field now, Taekwoon walking back and forth behind the ball. Hakyeon was sweating but smiling and Taekwoon found it slightly endearing how Hakyeon was trying hard at the sport. Finally, Taekwoon kicked the ball and jogged down the field. He heard Hakyeon shout an “I WASN'T READY,” (he totally was; Taekwoon wasn't going to fall for it again after that second goal) and Taekwoon quickly threw back a “YES, YOU ARE,” before the ball was suddenly swiped away from his feet.
Hakyeon was shouting, “OOOOOOOO,” on the top of his lungs as he dribbled the ball. Taekwoon grinned, swiped the sweat away from his eyes, and sprinted after the other. But before he could get close enough, Hakyeon gave the soccer ball a good, strong kick. It gracefully landed into the net and Hakyeon ran after it, yelling in victory. He veered back to run straight towards Taekwoon. Within seconds, he jumped and slammed into Taekwoon, tackling him into a hug. Taekwoon stumbled back in surprise and his hands automatically went up to grip Hakyeon's thighs to keep him from falling. The world froze after that. Hakyeon was breathing heavy right next to his ear and he could practically feel the happiness radiating off of Hakyeon. A moment later, the other pulled back and shot him a blinding smile.
“I won,” he whispered and then, suddenly, his lips were on top of Taekwoon's. Taekwoon's insides practically exploded. Hakyeon's lips were warm, he realized and when Hakyeon seemed to pull back in shock of what he just did, he tried to follow that warmth, wanting it to be with him just a while longer.
“Ohmygod,” Hakyeon clapped a hand around his mouth. “I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to do that. I mean I did but not like that. And you might not like me and-”
Takewoon groaned. “Didn't I tell you before to shut up?”
And he leaned up and kissed Hakyeon again until the other was speechless and could only gasp for air as a response.
The next day, right when Hakyeon entered the coffee shop, he shouted, “ME AND TAEKWOONIE ARE DATING!”
The coworkers looked at the two in shock. Taekwoon sighed and kicked at Hakyeon. “Taekwoon and I,” he corrected.
