Not long afterward, he started an organization called Service Space, which evolved from building free websites to spawning many other organization projects that promote kindness and generosity.

Love. One of those things that we all want, that we all yearn for, yet fail so often to show to others.

We do long to love, and especially to be loved. We ache for faithfulness, loyalty, selflessness. However, people always fail us. Sometimes it seems like the more I love the more I am hurt. Betrayals, neglect, and even death all come up like spikes on the roads before our wheels. This is seemingly the problem of love.

The fact is, pain is inevitable in this fallen world. Sometimes I hate that fact, but it still rings true. We are continually hurt, failed, and abandoned by those around us. That is the reality of our fallen world.

Yet, love is what we are called to. More than any other commandment, love is commanded of us. We are called to love, and to love faithfully, loyally, and selflessly, even when we long to just shut down. This is the difficulty of love, not the problem. Yet, how beautiful to be able to understand more of what God has done for us through our struggle to show love to others. While we were still sinners, while we were still cursing God, without faith and defiling ourselves, He gave of Himself to us out of love.

Love is not about what we will get out of it. It is not about having people to depend on and who will serve you. Love is so much more. Love is about selfless service, selfless giving. We are to rely on God for the love we desperately need--not humans--and then pour out love on others. Let us not fix our eyes on our pain as we try to love and forgive, but let us fix our eyes on the One who loved us through such opposition from sinful man. Let us strive to serve the One who loved us first. Let us forgive and love selflessly, becoming servants of all.
