Synopsis:
1. I chose to base my project on the Ohio University 5 C’s because I try to live my life by these values. Character, community, citizenship, civility, and commitment are basic things to devote yourself to but they can make all the difference between attending a university and building an everlasting affinity for OHIO. I chose things around campus that these values are integrated into.
2. I started this project the day we got it. I really liked the idea of exploring Athens for things that embody the spirit of the values we embrace as Bobcats. This project was a way for me to connect the lessons I learned at the university with the local community I call hOUme. I chose the 5 C’s and made lists of ideas for the shoots first. Total I did three shoots all over town. I filtered and curated in a grid app that allowed me to arrange and caption the posts then uploads them directly to Instagram. I found this app extremely vital to my success. I curated for an hour each day because it was a way for me to fine tune without driving myself mad over it.
3. To keep the look consistent I took multiple photos with differing angles at each location. I did my best not to place two pictures directly next to each other with the same pose. I also used the filter “Chrome” on every photo to give it a consistent vibe. As for the arrangement of the photos, I balanced neutral colored bricks and architecture with bright colored signs. Every photo has a comment that relates to the 5 C’s and has a # that correlates with the value it is promoting.
4. In my opinion, it turned out well. I actually think that it would be better with regular photos integrated into the mix, though. I am aware that the point of the project is to do something meaningful that proves selfies do not have to be narcissistic but I think it would enhance the flow and engage viewers more. Perhaps doing shots in a series of three to show different aspects of the same location. Differing angles, zooms, and lighting can really draw a viewer into a photo if curated properly. The post I like the best has church in it. I love the angles and the leading lines. I also wanted to include it because I am not a Christian so I think it shows some diversely and acceptance. The post that could use the most work is the coexist sight. The angels are not necessarily impressive and the colors don’t blend as well as they could. The reason I chose to include it anyway is because I really like the message it sends. Even though the branding is not as consistent visually, it blends well conceptually.
5. This collection could have an impact on anyone. People at Ohio University and in the Athens community may find a stronger connection with this account because the content was all shot locally. Anyone could connect with it on an intellectual level though in terms of its overall message to be the best you. Implementing the 5 C’s into everyday life is one way to create positive vibes and see the good in life.
