I have always hated taking pictures. I honestly don't like my face. I just don't. Not from any angle, any expression, nothing makes me even slightly ok with my face.

But I need, I mean NEED, at least one good photo that I can put on my website and start promoting the business I'm starting. Transparency is so important in today's market, I don't stand a chance without being willing to put myself out there.

So I guess my question is this: how do I manage/minimize/work around these feelings. Are there lights, settings, outfits, poses, anything, ANYTHING that will help?

I'm perfectly fine meeting someone in person because I know I can deliver and I'm confident. But the idea of a picture of me just sitting there for people to look at... *shudders intensely*

*How to Selfie like a Pro*

Firstly I want to state that how you take selfies is entirely your business and I’m not prescribing for you what is right or wrong. However, these are some basic rules on taking flattering selfies that apply to me and I think most others, and since people have been asking me about it I decided to do a little tutorial. I am no actual pro, instead, I am just a girl with a phone in her house. So you can do all of this too. Apologies for my wet hair! I could write a whole book on this but I’ll keep it simple. :p First thing you have to pay attention to is lighting. I personally prefer indirect natural light, either from the front or the side front, as demonstrated in the first picture. Most selfie cameras become pretty grainy and lose a lot of quality when exposed to bad lighting. I’ve added some examples of pictures in bad lighting. Try to avoid: direct lamp light or direct sunlight, too much back light, and too little light.

Try to find the spot in your house with the best light and take your selfies there. I prefer next to my bedroom window - bonus is I have a nice neutral background there too. If you are outside and it’s sunny, find a spot in the shade to avoid eye squinting and awkward harsh shadows.
