He had a smirk on his face, the kind of smug look that screamed confidence. He was already dress in his cloak and waiting for his turned to be called, to truly display what he was capable of to the council. Kon was an impatient person and has no qualm for waiting around when it comes to getting what he wants. He paced the hallway up and down as the other students watched him as though they were watching some tennis match.
Sasaki tapped his foot on the floor as he tries to remain calm of Kon uneasy behaviour. Sasaki stood up, walked toward Kon and pulled him by the collar. Like Kon, Sasaki has little patience, patience for Kon behaviour. Sasaki growled deep and pulled Kon to sit on an empty space. Sasaki glared down at him.
“Can you please settle down already?!” Sasaki shouted at Kon. Sasaki was totally pissed off and began wagging his finger at Kon. Sasaki placed both his hands on Kon’s shoulder and draw his head closer to Kon.
“You listen here, we are all as nervous as you are and you better not start fidgeting about. You will be called when they need to see you.” Sasaki spread his arms out to show Kon that he was not the only one who is waiting to be called. The students cheered on as Kon sighed and glanced up at Sasaki.
“But you know these kinds of thing. Only select few are chosen each year and this is my first time being selected. I’m pretty confident that I will get in. You’ll see, Sasaki. I would finally captured the souls and bring them the afterlife.” Kon looked at his hands as they began to tremble in excitement. Sasaki looked at him worried. Unlike Kon, Sasaki has been through this five times and all five times, he had failed.
“So naïve” Sasaki muttered and lucky for Sasaki, Kon was too engrossed in remembering all that he has learnt so that he could display his capability. The room soon quieten down as an elderly man, who wore the black cloak similar to all the students, emerged from behind the closed door. Kon raised his head as he smirked, praying internally that it was his turn.
“Kon, Kon Kurogane. The council has demand of your presence. Kindly come with me” the voice of the elderly man echoed through the hall before he disappeared again behind the door. Kon jumped high in the air and soon readjusted his cloak. He bowed to Sasaki.
“Wish me luck buddy. I hope to see you in the council.” Kon poked Sasaki’s chest and gave him a wink. He strutted his way as he ignored the muffled voices of displeasure and jealousy. Sasaki smiled, rubbing his chest where Kon had poked him as he watched Kon’s back, getting smaller and smaller and soon disappeared behind the door.
“Yeah, see you Kon.”Sasaki smiled as he sat back down. Kon entered a dark dark hallway. The door behind him shut, cutting off any source of light and he was surrounded with complete silence. His footsteps and the sound of his unnerving beating heart was all he could hear. Flickers of light lit the hallway, shown Kon the path to where his should be walking. Kon took a deep breath and followed the row of lights. As Kon continued walking down the dim hallway, he noticed in a far distance, a concentrated light and a chair within the circle. As he got closer, he could hear sounds of muttering and a series of hush in the air.
“Sit down, Kurogane-kun” A female voice echoed as the muttering and hushing was silence. “Have a seat and we will begin with the evaluation.” Kurogane nodded his head towards the unknown voice and hurried himself a little. He pulled his cloak as he sat on the chair. He brushed his cloak and looked into the darkness. His expression unwavering, there was no hint of fear in his eyes as he waited. He took a deep breathe and looked up at the panel.
"State your name and class." The woman called out to Kon. Kon cleared his throat and gave his familiar smile. The smiles that earned the title, Council Prince.
"My name is Kon Kurogane from class Shinigami A Rose. I believe that I have a strong motivation, power and belief to become the Shinigami that you are looking for. My training in Guresukaru has thought me the foundation, fundamental and skills required to perform the task, should such cases arises. And I will perform it with minimal discretion and professionalism that you seek. Grant me a position to be the Shinigami that you are looking for and I assure you. I would not fail you." Kon gave his speech with gusto and confidence, his eye was still focus onto the council.
The council broke into muttering and soon was silent as the woman voiced echoed again, with a commanding voice for silence. The woman thread her fingers together and smiled down at Kon.
"Such words are just sugar coated to entice us. We shall have to give you a test like all the other students who" She paused. "Captured our attention. Kon Kurogane, we understand that you are a vice-president in the Council. But I will not give you an instant approval to the council because of that. We like your character, we just looking for someone who can perform the task. As you know, only a handful of students gets to be a Shinigami per year. We hope to see you then." She smiles and waved her hand. The lights in the room dim then darken and soon lit up with Kon sitting in an empty small room. Kon clenched his fist.
"Sugar coated words, she said." He punched the wall. "Damn it. I will proved to them, that I can be that person. I will be a Shinigami. You wait and see. Madam Veilox." Kon stood up and left the room. He walked by a mirror and was taken aback by the expression on his face.
"Damnit Kon, smile. For the student." Kon turned to the mirror and pat his cheeks. He found his gentle smile and walked off.
