Like blizzard has this really weird writing choice when it comes to the light/other moral stand ins like pacifism in that they make it unquestionably good and virtuous, AND YET constantly like to prove the practically sainted followers of it are delusional and just haven't had bad enough stuff happen to then yet and are foolish for being how they are. Tirion gets killed after saying the light will save him in a way that mocks that ideal, Velen gets his recent bit, Jaina and her writing, etc. in fact I am having trouble thinking of a single character who has striven towards pacifism/the light who wasn't shown as foolish in some way. Maaaaaybe Anduin but even then they paint him as naive in a lot of the work. Which is so hard for me to rasp because I grew up with stories of figures like Joan of Arc, whose final words while being burned at the stake was 'lift the cross higher so I might see it through the flames!' And whose narratively is ultimately triumphant- she freed France and is far more remembered than the king that betrayed her. That's the thing about idealists and people of faith. Since they aren't focused on what they get in this world, when horrific stuff happens to them they simply add it to the fuel of things they need to change, of why they are working so hard to improve the world/free their people/etc. They have faith that even if they are forgotten their works will be another push in the right direction, and sometimes they even view their death as another opportunity to show the world what they believe in. Like holy shit man idealists are fucking hardcore.
