Self-appriciation can be tough and it's an ongoing process, but I think Aurora is right. We can definitely make us feel better about ourselves, bit by bit if we really want to.

Self Application
After reading Outliers, I think the two most important things that I’ve learned are working to be successfully intelligent and to work hard. First, Malcolm Gladwell stresses the the fact that IQ should not be a deciding factor of success. Intelligence should be measured upon real world applications of success rather than a test score. I can apply this to my own life by remembering that sometimes, it’s not all about the test scores, but the real world contributions I can make. I can fail math tests and still feel good about myself so long as I remember that in the future, as long as I make a tangible impact on the world, it’ll be okay to fail those math tests. Second, working hard is the most important factor to success. Though there may be other factors that can determine success, at the end of the day, working hard will get you to where you want. The difference is some may work harder for longer than others who are at the same level. Hard work is something I need to remember as I grow up and mature. Very few things in life come easy, hard work is always necessary.
One thing that really frustrates me is when a person is very excited about something that's important to them and when they try to tell their friend, family, special person -- they brush them off. Like it's not important. Like they're not important. And that's just messed up.
