Saugus Candidates for Selectmen on Wheelabrator Ash Expansion Issue
Candidates running for Selectmen, Debra Panetta, Scott A. Brazis, Jeff Cicolini, Mark Mitchell and Jennifer Perry D'Eon are against extending the ash landfill and have voted as such while serving as selectmen.  During their recent term, they also went on record in support of  State Representative RoseLee Vincent’s Bill preventing the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)  from allowing more ash dumping.
Candidate Paul Allan, who is also running to regain his seat in the selectmen’s race, as he was recalled in March of this year, has publicly stated he is opposed to the Vincent legislation. While serving as selectman, he did not support Panetta's effort to reaffirm a previous board's policy in opposition to Wheelabrator expansion and participated in a private tour hosted by Wheelabrator in 2013 along with the other three now recalled Selectmen he served with.
Candidate for a seat on the selectmen’s board Matthew Canterbury, toured the plant and publicly declared the concerns about Wheelabrator as "misnomers."
Another challenger in the selectmen’s race is Tim Shea.  Shea has avoided all public forums, has not publicly stated his position on town issues and has not commented on the Wheelabrator Bill but his campaign signs are at the same locations as selectmen candidates Paul Allen and Matt Canterbury.
