it’s a little odd—having spent so long away, and yet there’s almost nothing out of place from his memories. like stepping back in time except, where he’d once stood here in shihakusho and haori, he’s now in a tailored suit. and rose is hesitating where he’s never done so before.
does he even belong in this world any more? invitation not withstanding, up until a few weeks ago, he’d been an exile, considered either an abomination or dead to the man he’s intending to visit. but the musician wants to see him; he wants it badly enough to be the first of the visored to accept their invitation back to soul society.
so he shakes off the uncertainty and lifts his chin proudly, stepping through thirteenth’s gates and down a path his feet still remember well towards ugendo. rose has already been told it’s where jushiro has been recovering from the winter war.
he can only hope his former friend and lover looks better today than the gaunt, pale figure he’d been the few scant weeks prior when he’d given the invitation.
