It's really really really interesting because what if the fetus is able to register voices outside the womb, especially the vibrations of the mother's voice, and also able to feel/sense the touching of the belly outside the womb, which comforts it, and thus it carries over into conscious personhood and creates a response in the sympathetic nervous system that can be triggered by similar stimuli aaaggh psychology
Yes yes yes I think you are definitely onto something!
For sure the fetus registers sound, because that study and previous (and probably some since too). But it's not a conscious kind of thing. And definitely I can see that... like... there are pieces my mom plays on piano that just comfort me, and it's not just because she played them when I was a kid, it's because she played them when I was a fetus, I'm sure, and if someone else plays them it's not the same at all.
Dude I need to get recordings of her playing piano so I have them for forever.
