Im from europe germany & literally everybody is going on vacation. Stan has an european passport & if he got tested before going to spain theres no prob with travelling. European countries that live from tourism are hoping that people will come! I don’t know what its like in the US but we‘re normalizing living with the pandemic without damaging the economy any further. I personally booked a vacation to croatia by renting a house from locals and we all will be tested before its just normal for us
If everyone you know is going on vacation, that’s worrying. Because taking a vacation is not considered essential travel.
I’m glad you’re getting tested before going, but who is to say you won’t catch it on the plane ride there? On the way to the house rented by locals? Or if you catch it from locals and bring it back to Germany? There are so many periods of time where you could catch it even after your test results come back and you may not know if you’re aysymtopmatic carrier.
Don’t try to defend Sebastian. We don’t know if he got tested. And what I said to you applies to him- he could’ve caught it during a period of time after he got (potentially tested) and plus him going on a yacht in another country (especially since he is flying in from the US, number one highest cases of corona in the world to Spain, sixth highest number of corona cases in the world) is part of a luxury vacation and not travel. How many fucking times do I have to say this: SEBASTIAN HIMSELF CONDEMNED TAKING UNNECESSARY VACATIONS LIKE BEACH GOING IN MIAMI WHEN THINGS STARTED TO OPEN UP.
This is going to be hard to hear, but you need to hear it.
You are being selfish by going on this trip. Yes, even if it’s a tradition and everyone else is doing it. You are being selfish by risking transmission and contraction of coronavirus and justifying it by saying “well I’m getting tested once before I go” and “tourism needs money.” We get that the economy needs to continue to run. But opening back up borders to make quick money without taking proper precuations and when the trajectory of cases hasn’t settled, is stupid. And irresponsible. And for you to play into that is frankly disgusting.
Your privilege allows you to drop everything and go on a luxury travel (since this is not essential travel for work) to another country. Millions of people around the world, especially in America which makes what Sebastian did even more unforgivable, are losing their homes because of unemployment. Filing for bankruptcy. Relying on foodstamps. Dying. Risking their lives on the frontlines.
You can normalize having a functioning economy while living in a pandemic IN DIFFERENT WAYS. MAINLY, INTERNALLY. By enforcing food delivery services, faster testing, mandatory two week isolation policies, not letting in foreigners, etc. Opening up borders is not a good way to “normalize” living in a pandemic and letting the economy function.
The World Health Organization themselves have said to please limit foreign travel unless it’s essential travel. I guess it was too hard for you or Sebastian, two financially well off Europeans who don’t need to worry about getting by or living past this pandemic, to put off luxury travel for a year or two.
