when I started shipping it if I did: i had some fond feelings in seasons 5-6. all that theon was willing to do for her, after all he’d suffered?? and sansa was willing and ready to be his knight in shining armor to protect him from a death sentence?? y o w z a. but i wasn’t super into fandom or shipping that much at the time. i felt little bursts of it as i continued to watch the show bc they have so many important parallels and this really special dynamic that i feel, for very personal reasons, can and should be explored more often in romantic fiction. season 8 hit me HARD like ‘if you’ll have me’ ??? honey please. if that ain’t the most romantic thing a man has said to sansa ever, then idk what is i could write a whole-ass essay about it #goodbye

my thoughts: BABY THERE ARE MANY they’re so soft together in a way that they can’t be with anyone else. it’s such an essential sort of vulnerability, and they feel safe expressing that to one another without fear of judgment (because they are criticized for it in different ways, in canonverse and fandom alike). i think they need each other, but not in a codependent way — it’s very ‘i can live without you, but i don’t want to.’ and that, to me both idealistically and realistically, is peak romance.

What makes me happy about them: that theon is alive and well and livin’ it up at winterfell with his main squeeze sansa

What makes me sad about them: NOTHING see above that’s canon

things done in fanfic that annoys me: i’ve not come across anything bothersome. the way other ships characterize theon as a side character rubs me the wrong way, as the careless irresponsible fuckboi who will seemingly never mature 🙄 but in my experience theonsa writers understand him on the level he’s meant to be understood, so i have no complaints here

things I look for in fanfic: i’m a marshmallow fluff sort of person, so as long as they’ve got an HEA and not too bumpy a journey to get there, i’m happy. i prefer internal conflict to external, so for me it’s about the self-esteem issues and both of them working to soothe the other

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: nah man i’m good. now that the series is said and done, i believe they’re best suited to each other

My happily ever after for them: see ‘what makes me happy about them’ (if i ever get the chance to meet a showrunner, writer, producer, grrm himself, i will have them sign a legally binding ““autograph”” that says precisely that) ((but also i’d be honest and hopefully they’d laugh and sign it anyway like that’s the dream))

who is the big spoon/little spoon: they take turns! sometimes one of them needs it more than the other, though generally theon prefers to be the big spoon bc it fulfills his need to take care of sansa, too

who makes the bed: they like to make it together. sometimes ned will get distracted watching his wife, and he isn’t very helpful, but it’s something they try to do each morning. 

who wakes up first: they both wake up around the same time, so it’s a toss-up who actually is awake first. having five kids definitely forced them to be early risers, but they’ve come to really enjoy a couple of minutes to just talk and laugh with each other in bed. 

who has the weird taste in music: catelyn only really listens to classical music, while ned regularly hands over his phone to his children to let them introduce him to all of their favorite artists. he rarely actually likes the songs they put on his phone, but he always listens to them to try and keep up with what his children are interested in. 

who is more protective: the seven hells hath no fury like catelyn stark when anyone or anything threatens to harm her family. or her monthly brunches. 

who sings in the shower: neither of them. after five children, the notion of having five minutes to enjoy a peaceful shower is still very much a novelty, so neither is willing to break that tranquility. 

who cries during movies: catelyn will cry at the romantic classics, and movies intended to be tearjerkers. ned doesn’t cry at movies, but sometimes he’ll have to step out of the room when he’s caught off guard or reminded of his past. needless to say, war movies are not present in the stark household. 

who spends the most while out shopping: catelyn. whenever she sends out ned to do the shopping, he always comes home with the generic store-brand, insisting that it’s cheaper. catelyn of course, is always smug when their children scrunch up their noses and complain about it tasting “off”, while ned just rolls his eyes and mutters good-naturedly about them being spoiled, as if he can tolerate off-brand cinnamon toast crunch. 

who kisses more roughly: catelyn. sometimes ned just moves too slowly for her taste, and she needs him to move things along. 

who is more dominate: catelyn, though usually she and ned are so in sync it isn’t even really a factor.  

my rating of the ship from 1-10: 15/10
