23-year-old Sean Bell died at the hands of police 14 years ago a day before his wedding. Leaving a strip club in Queens with friends as part of a bachelor's party, NYPD fired 50 shots at the group but fewer than half hit the intended targets. An unarmed Bell was struck in the neck and arm and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Three of the five detectives involved in the shooting went to trial on charges of first- and second-degree manslaughter, first- and second-degree assault, and second-degree reckless endangerment. The police claimed to have overheard one of three men mention a gun while they were leaving the strip club following an alleged argument, but no weapon was ever found. The officers were found not guilty. Actor Jason Mitchell will portray a Black man who was fatally shot by the police hours before his 2006 wedding, TMZ reports. Mitchell will take on the role of Sean Bell in the film entitled 50 Shots, referencing the 50 bullets that police shot into Bell in Jamaica, Queens. Bell, who was 23, had just wrapped up his bachelor party with his dad and two friends when cops shot up their car. Undercover cops who were surveilling a nearby strip club thought the men were armed, but they weren’t. In 2010, Bell’s family won a settlement against the city for $7 million, but the three cops who shot Bell were fully acquitted.  Mitchell first read for the role of an undercover cop, but later asked to play Bell’s part instead.
