Pirate Fact #345:
Before pirate ships, pirates used to travel the seas by seahorseback. They often found herds of wild seahorses to capture and tame because they were pirates and pirates take things. Traveling by seahorseback was slow and made carrying cannons and treasure chests really difficult. However, unlike pirate ships, seahorses didn’t catch on fire easily and were small so they were good at dodging cannon balls. They also did’t sink as frequently as pirate ships unless they got stabbed in the neck with a sword or something.Â
BONUS FACT: Seahorseshoes frequently fell off during lengthy travel and litter the ocean floor.Â
BONUS ACTIVITY: Get your friends together and enjoy a day at the beach searching for seahorseshoes. Last one to find one buys dinner!
