Nothing gets me going like bright golden fields against the deep blue sky of a storm. You can smell the electricity in the air and all is calm for about 10 minutes. The wind kicks up and you watch the wall of rain come.
I miss my childhood of watching rain come in the golden fields. I miss the hummingbirds. I miss the dragonflies. I miss the soft embrace of the prairie grasses as I watch the clouds.
I still fly kites. I still save butterflies and bees from pond water. I still carry turtles from the middle of fields and bring them to the water's edge.
I hike now. I take photos of everything I love. The water, the plants, my friends. Maybe it's an attempt to be just as loving as when I was little. Maybe it's an attempt to pull myself out of the hole I dug. Maybe it's just love of the world around me.
I play in a band now. I travel more now. I can't wait to see other countries. I'll see the rain again. I'll see hummingbirds again. I'll see dragonflies again. And I'll feelthe soft embrace of the prairie grasses as I watch the clouds.
Most of all, I'll see a golden field bright against the dark blue sky of a storm.
