ok I caved in (thanks hayley) and watched Frozen online as well
spoilers ahead, obviously
I'm no film critic but i can tell that the general impression the movie left on me was... rushed. I mean, everything felt very rushed, it was like they were in a huge hurry to tell the story, and wouldn't give me time to let it all sink in and settle in; sometimes the flow of the transition of one scene to the next felt very forced idk
probably because there was SO MUCH going on, there was the sisters' story, Anna's thing with Hans, Anna's thing with Kristoff, Hans taking care of Arendelle, Elsa's struggle with her powers, the trolls, the oH GOD give me a break my head is spinning
I don't knooow
and with that, I think Anna and Kristoff's romance felt a bit rushed too, I mean... I dunno, it felt like their kiss at the end came out of nowhere... sorry for making comparisons with other fandoms now, but then again in Blue Sky's Epic, MK and Nod's kiss also (and quite literally) came out of nowhere, so why do I like that pairing more than I liked Kristoff and Anna? Now that I'm thinking about it, it seemed that there lacked a sort of honest conversation between them, like, just them talking with each other about each other... wow it's so bloody ironic that there was something of that sort between Anna and Hans and in the beginning I was rEALLY INTO THAT WOW but then we all know what fucking happened (HANS I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU give me AU's in which Hans isn't a royal ass please)
MAJOR PET PEEVE THOUGH: NOT ENOUGH SISTERLY BONDING. Or maybe there was, but there was sO MUCH going on that it sort of got lost in the midst of it all... I was just looking forward to see so much more of Elsa and how she would struggle with her powers and Anna being there with her and for her -sighs-
Olaf wasn't actually as obnoxious as I thought he would be, thank goodness, but I still think he's just in the movie for merchandise fodder. I was willing to give him a chance because he was supposed to be something the sisters could remember fondly from their fun times together as kids, but after watching the movie, i think that role he was supposed to have didn't bring all that much weight to their relationship tbqh... and by gOD, his song was just a big lipped alligator moment, don't even argue with me on that I won't change my mind (and on that note, 'fixer upper' seemed like one to me as well)
I suppose these were my main issues sorry but no, Frozen didn't hit me as "the greatest thing since The Lion King" sorry Disney but it didn't with the film; I suppose I could name some more but I'm really tired at the moment
NOT TO SAY THAT FROZEN WAS A BAD MOVIE OKAY i enjoyed it, I really did, just...
not as much as I hoped I would (that kinda happened with Brave too)
like, the animation/acting/expressionisms were really nice and smooth and I loved looking at that and visually it seemed absolutely marvelous as well (remind you that I've only seen a shitty camrip yet, will watch it in theaters later this week maybe), I really enjoyed the Nordic designs and motifs and culture depicted there, and through it all, I really enjoyed the sisters/royal family arc in the beginning, wish we'd have more of that ACTUALLY I JUST WANT MORE ELSA KJFHKA MY BBY DARLING I WANT TO WRAP YOU IN A BLANKET AND BRING YOU HOME AND HUG YOU
god i have a headache and i'm sleepy, but I wanted to get that out of my system fffff
