So I went to the doctor’s office yesterday and took Sky with me and some pretty amazing service dog team stuff went down!
When we were waiting for the doctor to come in, Sky situated himself so he could stare at the door. The doctor knocked softly before coming in and Sky gave her a low “woof” before deciding that I was safe and he didn’t have to go into full out barking! (side note: when we’re at home or a hotel or some equivalent he barks if anyone knocks just to alert me that there’s someone at the door so I don’t get scared.)
The doctor wanted me to sit on the examination table so I tied Sky to one of the chairs that was by the window but as soon as the doctor started to examine me, Sky pulled the chair so he could be right beside me and watch everything!
Then it was time to take some blood to run some tests and I’m terrible with needles (like I pass out almost every time). Sky watched the entire time and when he sensed I was getting nervous or feeling sick, he actually stood up and alerted the techs that I wasn’t feeling so well. One of the techs actually asked me if he would be okay with them slapping my hand to try to see the veins. I of course said yes and he was fine about it, he just had to watch them do it to make sure I didn’t get overly stressed.Â
I love Sky so much! To me, he’s the best service dog around!
