(I have encountered the mantavor with seahorse reproductive method anon as I have been blessed >:D)

It could be the sole reason-

It could be the primary reason, one of many reasons, or he probably just never thought about it for various reasons.

Maybe for him, this method of reproduction feels risky, or that he never thought about it because this method is normalized in mantavor society, and he is one of the mantavors who doesn't think much of it.

There are just so many maybes to how he could react :p

And hey, there could be even more reasons that could or didn't affect the possible ways if Scroop is trans, sex repulsed, aromantic, and/or etc :p

Now, for my own biased reason, currently: I feel like his escaping home to avoid becoming a father is not the only reason, and that it is one of the straws that broke the camel's back, including:

not being a prodigy at a young age that, for some reason, opens up more future life opportunities (is kind of a myth treated as a fact in Mantavor culture overall)

'wasting' the opportunity of taking the ranking exam (for context, this exam in my worldbuilding for Mantavor society is how the high academies will pick the students who have taken the exam and scored above the standard)

The home planet that he resides in really doesn't complement well with his work style

At least in the canon materials that I am trying to interpret as unbiased as I could, it is up to interpretation ¯\_(._.)_/¯ with the ideas that you brought up, it could be an combination of those with varied percentages or even some other reasons that are not mentioned

I personally believed that Scroop is a huge double edged sword that Silver believed that if he knows how to ‘use him well’, it would lead to a situation where pros would out weigh the cons.

And I guess Silver is about half right but a huge problem is that Silver cannot be some panopticon or mind reading what Scroop is thinking especially in stressed situations where mistakes can become an massive butterfly effect.
