It has been a blast testing out my new Wildgame Innovations W6X over the course of the past several weeks. (One word of caution though, you need to use a game camera lock box to prevent theft. This camera has no physical security features.) I am continuously wanting to go switch out the memory card. The different types of wildlife that I have been viewing surprised me, and I am starting to turn into a trail camera enthusiast. I have seen everything from turkeys to deer and small game animals to trespassers. A bunch of the action is at night.
The large whitetails tend to hang in a larger area of woods not very far from here. I haven't found them in our area yet, but I know they will be on the way soon. The pre rut activity will be picking up soon, and that will get those bucks on the move and wandering bigger areas in search of those females.
With the temperatures starting to fall, I am noticing a bunch of additional movement in the day. Be ready to begin sitting in the deer blind longer. Chances to shoot may begin to appear at times you would not expect.
The most helpful thing that the Wildgame Innovations W6X micro game camera has done for me, is to allow me to know that I'm positioning myself in the appropriate locations. The deer trails that I have been covering have heavy doe activity. The older bucks are not as frequent in these areas right now. I have viewed a number of 8 pointers and younger bucks, but nothing write home about.
This is a good environment for the males. When the females are ready to be bred, you can be certain that a bunch of mature bucks will be there. It happens this way every season around here.
Don't worry if you are not noticing mature bucks on your scouting cameras yet. Seeing does is a great thing, and an ideal indication of a great spot to hunt. Refrain from taking those does throughout the rut. There is likely to be a nice buck in pursuit close behind.
