Don't mind me, just sharing one of my favorite stories told in Masters of DOOM (a small excerpt from pages 110/111): . "Tensions were building outside the office too. One day Scott [Miller, from Apogee fame] received a call from FormGen, with whom he had been in contact since the company decided to do a retail version of Wolfenstein. FormGen would often appeal to Scott when they were having difficulty negotiating with id. Scott had some concerns of his own: most notably that Wolfenstein was nothing more than a maze game, Pac-Man with guns. He wondered if people would see it for what it was. FormGenâs latest concern, however, was even bigger. . âLook, Scott,â an executive said, âwe donât think they should be showing blood and stirring up the World War II stuff. Weâre really worried about this. Itâs too realistic. Weâre going to make a lot of people upset. Thereâs never been a game like this.â . âLet me see what I can do,â Scott replied. He dialed id. âHey,â he said, âFormGen thinks the game needs to be toned down.â He could hear the guys huffing on the other end at the line. It was time for id to do something about the violence, he conceded. âBeef it up!â he said. They wholeheartedly agreed." . . I believe they tried to pull something similar with the newest Wolfenstein but didn't work out so well in the long run. Whatever the case, I'm happy that id software decided to take that route and stood their ground. . #gaming #retrogaming #DOOM #videogames #pcgames #idsoftware #ScottMiller #MastersOfDOOM #wolfenstein https://www.instagram.com/p/BuhdbIyFKWf/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1wp4j6sbjj1do
