I have always been a fan of the music from this show.  The Original Broadway Cast recording of Chicago was one of the first musical soundtracks I ever owned.  Despite my love of the music, however, I never watched the movie they made in 2002.  The fact that they wear the skimpy lingerie in Cell  Block Tango (incidentally my favorite song) always kept me away.  But the other day I was asked by a director friend of mine if I would ever consider doing Chicago and I said I loved it but I didn’t think I’d ever do it because of the costumes.  He looked at me kinda funny and said that was a shame because I would be perfect.  That planted the seed, after that I was listening to my iPod and Cell Block Tango came on and I belted it.  It was then that I decided I would watch it and see what it was like.  So glad I did!

The dancing in this show!!! Oh man!!! I love it!  I’m a dancer and the first dance number, “All That Jazz” was enough to convince me I had to do this show at some point.  I can’t describe how much I love the dancing in this movie!  It’s beautiful, gorgeous, and simply the best combination of genres of dance I’ve seen in a long time!

Also, the amazing cinematography.  I love the way the camera flips scenes, between what’s happening on the stage and what it is currently mimicking in “real life”.  For example the entire “Hungarian Disappearing Act”  and things like in “All That Jazz”.  It’s  so epic and a marvelous choice for this show.

I may not be the biggest fan of the plot line, but that’s okay because, for me at least, the musical numbers far out-way the disappointing plot line!  I may purchase this movie simply to watch the dances over and over again.
