i like to think linny cuts their hair later, and it makes him look like 80s linnell when they wear it down. very experimental with their looks.

general headcanons

- do not be mistaken by their Fancy Lab Coats™️! dr. linnell and dr. flans are NOT actual scientists. they are much like bill nye like hosts, but whereas bill actually has scientific credentials… these two do not.

- honestly, it seems The Board running the whole operation just kinda wanted to see them blow up for fun. but they just don’t seem to die… Strange. so they hang around for entertainment.

- they work on educational songs, as part of an arts initiative. for what? that’s not for them to worry about.

- dr. flans is a bit more grounded when it comes to the work, while dr. linnell is a bit more scatterbrained and mad scientist-like widdit (the vampire costume… the green paint… and of course wdtsrs)

- linnell CAN and WILL LOCK in! he loves computers and light, and will not hesitate to tell you everything he knows at the drop of a hat.

- he is also very knowledgeable about the body, but do not trust him to be your doctor. he has no bedside manner. and no degree. he’s about as useful as webmd and will offer to amputate over a headache

- flans’ “expertise” is more aligned with the natural world, space, the earth, conservation. he has worked a bit more closely with The Board on some research, but again. he is not a genuine scientist. he’d like to be! he just gets more work done between the two of them.

- linnell is indeed missing an eye, but can still see. lab experiment gone wrong, but horribly right. no i will not elaborate yet

- flans likes neatness and order when it comes to the lab, he needs to find his materials where they’re supposed to be, and where he last saw them, or else he has no idea where they are

- meanwhile you could ask linnell for a pushpin, and he would remember one he saw on the floor three months ago

the clones!!! / tmbgkids

- meta moment, they are also my gijinkas of tmbg’s kids work as a whole, so they encompass the kids albums/dvds as well as the books!

- after the light refraction incident (wdtsrs), flans started experimenting with cloning, and though it was not sanctioned by The Board, they got to keep them as they are the perfect test audience for the songs they are working on. and they are very. Very Honest. almost too honest.

- they are ALSO… both named john (very creative, fellas.), but since there’s. FOUR OF THEM now. they get the nicknames jack and linny.

- they were cloned with a mix of the two’s dna to be children as it seemed to be easier for the machine to handle (and a little… less weird than having exact clones of themselves as they are now), but have a relatively faster growth rate. so their teens do come fast, much to the surprise of the good— eh. the okay get it. cuz tmbgareok doctors, who are not prepared for it.

- jack is very moody, loud, and prefers to keep to himself and play his game. as the first clone, he’s got that nobody understands me type beat even though bro literally had linny for almost his entire life so far

- he likes to pretend he has no interest in what either flans or linnell are talking about, but every now and then he’ll recite a fact with an eye roll, prompting a “awwww you DO remember!!!” from the two of them.

- jack does feel the pressure applied on him, and recedes into himself because he feels he can’t live up to flans’ achievements, but flans pushes jack to do better and to do more because he feels like he doesn’t really have any achievements, not being a “real scientist”

- linny was cloned second, as they figured jack needed a friend. while he took on a bit of a louder persona when younger, he is more quiet now, and has a lot of appreciation for what the scientists are doing.

- though he’s much different with jack, he’s the he asked for NO PICKLES guy between the two of them because jack pretends that he doesn’t care enough, so it genuinely shocks jack when linny is thoroughly shaken by anything

- linny does help out around the lab more often than jack does, and likes to follow along on research operations. this does make flans proud, but it does disappoint him a little, as he was sure his clone would carry on his passion for science too… oh well. he’ll understand one day
