the awesome pictures of the carina nebula, the southern ring nebula, and Stephan’s quintet aren’t the ONLY thing the James Webb space telescope has taken pictures of: we also have some incredible shots of Jupiter
shortwave (left) and long wave (right) infrared, demonstrating JWST’s capability in capturing moving targets AND ALSO JUPITER’S RINGS
I’m trying to read academic papers again and they’re awful

every day I am angrier that scientific research is not written for the public
claroso I think it's easier when you're passionate about the subject?? I mean chem and phys are really very similar so I do lots of stuff twice but from different perspectives, I love it!! yeah chemistry is p much half and half for me too but physics lags SO far behind and it's quite a slow process encouraging girls that like physics into the field - same with a lot of engineering, too, in my experience in my pre-uni physics I was the only girl but I was lucky in the sense that my teachers a) knew me quite well and b) were always making sure I was comfortable and giving me advice (as much as male teachers could) on employment - things like companies hire women but just to get their stats up, that I should use that to my advantage because I'm good at what I do and I'm worth it. they're the minority though, which is unfortunate. judgement from others is quite weird, I feel - it doesn't feel purposefully malicious but it usually seems to be "oh you're pretty smart for a girl" and that in itself is so unhelpful?? honestly aw I do actually you know like literally every interaction between Sam and Jack when she's explaining something and he's like "ummmm nah no clue but thanks" I feel for her but at the same time there's that quote that says "if you can't explain it simply you don't understand it well enough" so I guess it's just a testament to her expertise?? (I'm feelin warm and mushy again I might melt soon) and no you're right McKay is super problematic not only in the way that he interacts with Sam but his sister???? who is a veritable genius in her own right????? honestly, dude needs a fist to the face or another arrow to the ass or whatever
chemistry and geometry when paired together are stupid and you'll agree when I tell you that a tetradentate species (4 bonds) is tetrahedral and a hexadentate species (6 bonds) is octahedral
