How Tryla Scott Came To Be:
Uhura and Scotty married in between TOS and “The Motion Picture”. A few years later, Uhura’s sister and brother-in-law had died due to mysterious circumstances. As a result, their orphaned son was adopted by Nyota and Montgomery. In spite of their busy schedule, they cared for the boy as much as possible and would tell him all about their adventures. When the boy became a man, he too went to the academy and worked for the Enterprise where he would meet a lovely young lady who would become his wife. Years after the wedding, their had a son who would follow in his father’s footsteps. He would eventually marry a female Starfleet member and would have a daughter, Tryla.
So yeah, in short, Scotty and Uhura adopted the Tryla’s grandfather. Making them her adopted great-grandparents and great-great aunt and uncle.
