For over 35 years, the HELP program has opened 9 schools and educated thousands of children.  Due to new Haitian government regulations, the schools will be required to add two more grades which will put a strain on the system and increase the needs for funding.  This will also affect the feeding program - affecting all students who rely on the schools for their only meal of the day.

Meet fifteen year-old Lukendy who wants to be an accountant.  He’s been enrolled in the program for 6 years and is in his last year of primary school.  He enjoys every subject, but especially mathematics.  Lukendy hopes to get a sponsor and continue onto secondary school next year.  His parents are happy that the school is close to their home, so he doesn’t have to travel too far with poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season.

Twins Nayda and Naydoline are 10 years-old and attend Sonshine Christian School.  The girls are inseparable and entered into the program 3 years ago.  Their favorite subject is reading and they are doing quite well.  The girl’s mother, Cleanta is a single mother farming a very small plot of land, selling the food she is able to raise at the market.  Cleanta has expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the hot meals the girls get every day at school and she is happy they are learning to read and write, an opportunity she never had.
