While we would love to keep adding to the archive here on Tumblr, unfortunately, the full brunt of the updates and the workload has fallen directly on me - K-lionheart. Iâve lost crucial artists (to work, school, etc) so I wonât be able to post as widely as Iâd like.
I have to keep my focus on making new content and between creating pages and doing promotional posters and so on for the series--especially on what free time I have since I just started a new business--Iâm stretched thin enough as it is.
This has made it difficult for me to keep up on Patreon too. but thatâs another story.
Honestly, guys, if you have time, please consider becoming a patron or at least just following GoodKitty Comics on patreon. The Swede who moved to Australia learn about ANZAC from daughter

As a Swede that only has lived in Australia for seven years there is a lot of new history to learn and new public holidays to get used to. ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) day is a public holiday solely held to commemorate and to honor fallen war heroes who served for Australia and New Zealand. So on the 25th of April every year anyone who likes can go to an ANZAC ceremony or watch one of the parades either live or on TV. For me personally, as a Swede but also an Australian citizen I feel proud to belong to a democratic country that in such grand scale honors its fallen soldiers. Even though I do not have any personal relatives related to ANZAC, I would still like to take a few moments of reflection, or in some way send my gratitude towards the fallen ones for their bravery and sacrifice. If it was not for these brave men and women the country I now call my home would not be what it is today.
This year I did spend some time with my Australian family talking about their relatives and what impact an experience like war can have on a person and its family.
It is my personal belief that most people with relatives returning home from war are experiencing the sad fact that the returnee often bears a burden too heavy for someone alone to shoulder, a burden that can change a person's life forever.
At my daughterÂŽs school they talked about ANZAC in their class and as she is being in year one only they did age appropriate things like drawing and coloring in pictures related to ANZAC. She told me how she tried to find a pen that matched the soldiers brown-greenish clothes. They also held an ANZAC day service at school (for parents and students) with some guest speakers who talked about fallen heroes and how important it is to remember what the army fought for and why. By the end of the service the national anthem was sung by everyone and then the kids left flowers under a special pine tree at school. This tree is a symbol and a reference to an original tree that was found at Gallipoli Peninsula at Turkey, which marks the site âBattle of Lone Pineâ in 1915.
While my daughter is learning the history of her birth country I am eager to follow her on the journey with hope of understanding my new home a bit better. There are lots of books written on the subject, or if you have less time, watching one of the many Australian war movies might be another way to get a few hints on what might have happened. Maybe the Australian actor Russel Crowe with his âThe water Divinerâ from 2014 or âGallipoliâ with Mel Gibson from 1981 (and 1989) might be to ones liking (I sure did like The water Diviner, but need to look into Gallipoli myself). Or there is this mini series from 1985 called âANZACSâ with the famous Australian actor Paul Hogan whom we all know from the movie âCrocodile Dundeeâ from 1986.
While watching a movie I should probably eat some ANZAC biscuits also, a sweet â bikkieâ (biscuit) that gets its characteristic flavour from some of its ingredients rolled oats, flour, sugar, butter and golden syrup. It is said that wives sent these kind of biscuits to the soldiers abroad because they kept for long and wouldnât spoil during naval transportation. In the army soldiers where also issued a very hard bread substitute referred to as ANZAC tiles or wafers. Every year me and my family buy the commercially made sweet Anzac bikkie if we have not baked them ourselves, itâs a tradition now! There are a lot of great recipes on the internet for those who are interested, I can highly recommend it. When the lovely scent of freshly baked golden brown cookies spread throughout the house you will understand why! So for those of you who are not in Australia but want a little taste of âAnzac Dayâ, bake a batch of cookies, make yourself comfortable on the couch and enjoy your sweet cookies while the gravity of the film will touch your senses for a while!

Att vara svensk bosatt i Australien i endast sju Ă„r innebĂ€r en hel del ny historia att lĂ€ra sig och nya helgdagar att vĂ€nja sig vid. ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) dag Ă€r en helgdag som hĂ„lls för att hedra minnet av stupade krigshjĂ€ltar som tjĂ€nstgjort för Australien och Nya Zeeland. SĂ„ den 25 april varje Ă„r kan alla som vill delta i en ANZAC ceremoni eller se pĂ„ en av paraderna, antingen live eller pĂ„ TV. För mig personligen som svensk, men ocksĂ„ som australiensisk medborgare kĂ€nner jag stolthet över att tillhöra ett demokratiskt land som i sĂ„ stor skala hedrar sina fallna soldater.  Ăven om jag inte har nĂ„gra personliga slĂ€ktingar relaterade till ANZAC, skulle jag Ă€ndĂ„ vilja Ă€gna en stund Ă„t eftertanke, eller pĂ„ nĂ„got sĂ€tt sĂ€nda min tacksamhet gentemot de fallna för deras mod och uppoffring. Om det inte vore för dessa modiga mĂ€n och kvinnor skulle landet jag nu kallar mitt hem inte vara vad det Ă€r idag.
I Ă„r tillbringade jag lite tid tillsammans med min australienska familj för att tala om deras slĂ€ktingar och vilka konsekvenser en upplevelse som krig kan ha pĂ„ en person och dess familj.Â
Det Àr min personliga övertygelse att de flesta mÀnniskor med slÀktingar som kommer hem frÄn ett krig upplever det sorgliga faktumet att den ÄtervÀndande personen ofta bÀr en börda alldeles för tung för nÄgon ensam att axla, en börda som kan förÀndra personens liv för alltid.
Medan min dotter lĂ€r sig sitt födelselands historia Ă€r jag angelĂ€gen om att följa henne pĂ„ resan i hopp om att förstĂ„ mitt nya hem lite bĂ€ttre. Det finns massor av böcker inom Ă€mnet, eller om man har mindre tid, att titta pĂ„ en av de mĂ„nga australiensiska krigsfilmerna kanske kan vara ett sĂ€tt att fĂ„ nĂ„gra tips pĂ„ vad historan har att berĂ€tta. I fĂ€lt blev soldaterna Ă€ven tilldelade ett mycket hĂ„rt bröd-substitut som kallats för ANZAC plattor eller skivor. Varje Ă„r köper jag och min familj hem de kommersiellt tiilverkade Anzac kakorna om vi inte haft tid att baka dem sjĂ€lva, det Ă€r numer en tradition! Det finns en hel del bra recept pĂ„ internet för de som Ă€r intresserade, det kan jag starkt rekommendera. NĂ€r den hĂ€rliga doften frĂ„n nygrĂ€ddade gyllenbruna  kakor sprider sig i huset  förstĂ„r ni varför! SĂ„ för Er som inte Ă€r i Australien men vill ha ett litet provsmak pĂ„ vad âAnzac dayâ kan innebĂ€ra, baka en sats med smĂ„kakor, gör det bekvĂ€mt för er i soffan och avnjut era söta kakor medan filmens allvar fĂ„r bli er vĂ€rld för en stund!
