[Quinn, hair still mussed and tired looking, but dressed, is talking to the camera in the hotel room, speaking low. The lighting is off, its low quality.]
Quinn: My parents texted early this morning that they werenāt coming to brunchā¦
[She turns as Puck moves near her, then gives her a quick peck to the lips before heading to the mirror to brush her hair.]
-----
Waking up next to my wife was one of the best feelings in the world. I donāt know the last time I felt this happy. Even though we barely know each other, it feels like something is there, like somethingās here that will keep us together. I know itās still too early to tell how things will go, but this just feels right. [pause] We didnāt⦠consummate the marriage just yet⦠But thereās still the honeymoon. [winks]
-----
You ever wake up and have like the best morning ever, not even because of sex because we totally didnāt have sex, and then itās all just ruined. By a text message. Ā I really like my wife. I like her a lot. Which is weird to say because weāre friggin married, but Iām really not a fan of my in-laws. They just seem like really terrible people. I mean, maybe Iām wrong. Maybe itās just this crazy situation. So Iām trying really hard to bite my tongue. I just need to make it through this brunch and then Quinn and me are off on our honeymoon.
-----
[Quinn and Puck walk into the restaurant, surprised to see Quinnās parents.]
Puck: *walks in and hugs her mother and sister, offering Quinnās parents a tight smile* Good morning, everyone. Youāre all looking nice and refreshed. I slept well. How about you? *looks directly at Quinnās parents*
Judy: Very well, thank you.
Quinn: *stops to hug Puckās mom and sister, then hesitates and moves around to sit instead of hugging her own parents* Yes, we slept very well, all cuddled up, practically on top of each other.
Russell: *clears throat*
Sarah: Only cuddling? *looks at Puck* Are you ok?
Puck:*laughs a little, shaking her head* I am just fine. Gotta save something for the honeymoon. *winks at Sarah before they both snicker*
Esther: Girls, not at the table. Oi, youāre going to put me in an early grave.
Sarah: Sorry Momā¦
Puck: *ducks her head* Sorry, Ma. *smirks at Sarah and then Quinn*
Quinn: *smirks back at Puck, then glances at Sarah and smiles at her, too* Thanks for coming to brunch. *glances at her parents, then at Puckās mom* We really appreciate you all being here.
Esther: Of course, dear, Norahās being married is something I never thought Iād see. Iām just so happy sheās settled down.
Puck: *looks at Quinn and mouths ācrazyā about her mother*
Esther: What?
Puck: *shakes her head* Nothing, Ma. So bagel and lox then?
Quinn: *laughs silently at Puck then bites her lip and glances at her parents before looking at Puck* I've never had a bagel and lox. What is that?
Puck: it's um...like salmon that's been in brine. They don't cook it. So it's kinda like sushi too in a way. You eat it on a bagel with cream cheese. *looks at her mom and sister for a moment* We keep kosher. So I basically can't eat any breakfast meats ācept lox and steak. Want a bite when I get it?
Quinn: *frowns as she hears the description, glances at Puckās family then looks at Puck* You'll⦠have to go over this kosher thing with me. I don't know anything about it.
Judy: Because Quinn is Catholic. She went to Catholic school and college.
Quinn: Raised Catholic. *smiles at Puck* I'd love to try it. *reaches under the table to take Puckās hand*
Puck: *smiles back at Quinn before looking at Judy* Well, it's not like I'm saying she can't be Catholic or has to eat kosher. It's called sharing in other people's cultures and being open-minded. I think a lot of people would benefit from that. Just sayin.
Judy: I believe some influences may be bad and give the wrong idea to open minded people like my daughter. She's always marched to the beat of her own drum, pursuing her own interests, never did anything just because someone told her she should. I just don't want her making bad decisions.
Quinn: I'm not making bad decisions, Mom.
Judy: I know that, Quinn, but I was just saying I don't want you mingling with the wrong crowd.
Quinn: Mom, this is my wife now. Itās not--
Judy: Am I not allowed to voice concerns? I thought that's what we're doing here, at brunch, just chatting. *picks up mimosa and takes a long drink*
Esther: Well, if we're voicing concerns, I'm a little concerned that you're a little antisemitic. I mean unless you think being kosher means you're being initiated into a gang then I don't understand your problem. So you must think that being Jewish is the āwrong influence.ā You know who else thought like that? Hitler. *holds up her hands in defense* I'm not saying you're nazis but you are very Aryan looking, and that coupled with your issues with being kosher, some people might draw some conclusions.
Sarah: I've never known lox to be some kind of gateway drug. Next thing you know, she'll be eating brisket and selling latkes to kids on the street corner.
-----
I love my family.
-----
Russell: *leans back against chair* Of course weāre not antisemitic, but you have to agree that when you thought about your kosher girls growing up, you thought theyād find kosher spouses. My daughter, Francine, married a man that was Catholic. Quinn did too. Iām just saying, sometimes itās difficult to make a marriage work when thereās such opposition.
Quinn: But Iām not opposing, Dad.
Russell: *holds up a hand toward Quinn, as if to quiet her* Thereās a lot of surprising changes, Quinn. Itās a lot at once. *lowers his hand and then sits quietly*
Quinn: Well, Iām sorry.
-----
If I had known this is how they really felt? I wouldnāt have done it. They said they supported me. I guess that was a lie.
-----
Puck: Okay, but you do know that Quinn isnāt changing, right? You two seem like smart, well-educated people. You get that sheās the exact same person that youāve known her whole life. My being a kosher Jew isnāt Ā going to change anything except maybe she wonāt eat cheeseburgers anymore.
Esther: Unless your problem is with Norah then weāre going to have an even bigger problem. You donāt know my daughter, and you seem to be making a lot of judgments about her.
Puck: Is this because you didnāt know she was into other women? Is that your problem? Is it that she didnāt pick a Catholic woman? If weāre voicing concerns, letās get them all out in the open now. No need to be polite. Weāre all family now. So, Mom and Dad, letās put it all on the table so that we can all know where each other stands. Iāll even go first. For as much as I already like your daughter, Iām not really fond of either of you. I think youāre selfish people that tried to ruin her special day. Ā And thatās a real dick move to me. Mom? Sarah? Anything you wanna add?
Esther: Norah, I donāt think this will help.
Sarah: No, Mom, sheās right. Thereās no need to pretend to be nice when you arenāt actually nice. *looks at Quinnās parents* I think youāre not as nice as you think you are. I think you shouldnāt be so judgmental of people and their religion unless you want people to do the same to you, and right now, youāre not really scoring big points for the Catholics, in my opinion.
[Judy sits mortified and then drinks more. Russell leans forward in his chair]
Russell: Iāve never seen more disrespectful children. I donāt care how old you are, but itās still disrespectful. Iām trying to make sure Quinn doesnāt ruin her life over this⦠phase of hers.
Quinn: Oh my God, Dad, itās not a phase. I told you it wasnāt a--
Russell: Itās going to stay a phase if you stay married to her. You gave up too soon on your marriage to Nick--
Quinn: He gave up. He cheated on me. I was the one who tried to make it work and he gave up.
Russell: Donāt cut me off, Quinn.
Quinn: I donāt know know why we have to talk about this over and over and over again. Itās not going to change anything!
-----
Itās like talking to a f-BLEEP-ing wall.
-----
Sarah: So...let me get this straight, pun intended... *smirks at Puck* Youād rather your daughter be unhappy and stay married to a guy thatās cheating on her than have her married to a woman thatās not gonna do that? Wow, you guys really are selfish dicks. My sisterās right. *looks at Quinn* Iām sorry your parents are a*holes. Thatās tough.
Puck: Donāt ever call me a child again because you canāt handle being called out on just how terrible youāre being to your own daughter. I mean really think about what kind of message it sends that you care more about your own happiness than hers. And donāt say youāre doing it for her, because thatās crap and everyone here knows that, including Quinn. My mom doesnāt like every decision I make, but sheās never anything but supportive when I need her. Thatās how you parent. You donāt try to talk someone into staying in a loveless marriage, and now that she is married to me, Iām not just gonna stand by and let you continue to treat her like sheās any less a person just because youāre her parents. She doesnāt deserve that, and I dare you to contradict me on any of what I just said. Thereās not a single thing you could say that would justify a single thing youāve said here.
Russell: *pulls off his microphone and stands* Weāre done here. *sets the mic pack on the table and reaches for Judyās arm* Judy, letās go.
[Judy gets up, pulling her microphone off and struggling with it before dropping it onto the table.]
Russell: *looks to Quinn* Quinn. *nods toward the door as he leads Judy away*
Quinn: *frowning deeply, glances around, but doesnāt meet anyoneās eye* Iāll be right back, really quick.
[Quinn gets up quickly and walks out of the restaurant, where her parents are standing just outside.]
Quinn: Did we have to do it like that? Is that how you wanted this to go? Because then you really shouldnāt have come at all.
Russell: Donāt raise your voice to me.
Judy: Calm down, Quinn.
Russell: Youāre choosing them over us, over your own family.
Quinn: You didnāt even want to be here. Francine flat out refused. And itās a damn shame. But theyāre my family now too. Theyāre my family. They donāt have to be yours. I donāt care.
[Quinn turns and heads back inside.]
Russell: Quinn!
[Quinn moves back to the table, frowning still. She takes a breath as she sits down in her former seat.]
Quinn: *glances around* So, this lox thing, I wanna order it. *starts to laugh, unable to help herself, and picks up her mimosa, finishing it*
-----
I know I probably shouldnāt have done that, but I rarely bite my tongue on a good day, and I just couldnāt sit with people thatād do that. Iām not gonna let anyone insult my family, and now that family includes Quinn.
-----
Puck: *laughs a little* Well alright! *leans over and kisses Quinnās cheek*
-----
[Everyone is mostly through their meals, Quinn having both a lox bagel and a few strips of bacon on her plate]
Quinn: I think this is the beginning of phasing out of bacon. I wanna respect your religious beliefs⦠Bacon will be the hardest, though. I canāt believe you never ate it. *laughs* But this lox was super awesome.
Puck: *grins happily* I meant it when I said you don't have to do that, but thank you for saying that.
----
I think I'm going to like being married to her.
----
[Puck walks back in holding a gift basket.]
Puck: *sits next to Quinn* Look what we got.
Quinn: *grins and looks at the basket* Oh my goodness. *pokes at the contents, looking them over and smiles up at Puck* So whatās this forā¦? *lifts an eyebrow*
Puck: *pulls out a letter, clearing her throat* Dear, Norah and Quinn, congratulations on starting your journey as wife and wife. May you honeymoon to Blue Ridge, Georgia Ā be the start your biggest adventure of all, marriage. From the Experts. *looks at Quinn* Weāre going to the mountains! Hell yes!
-----
I know most people are probably hoping for Hawaii or the Bahamas for a honeymoon, but Iām a mountains kind of girl. So excited.
-----
Quinn: *claps* Oh thatās so exciting! Thatāll be fun.
I donāt really go to the mountains, but Iām looking forward to it. Itāll be nice and secluded, which is, like, the perfect getaway spot. As long as there is no snow, or bears, Iāll be good.
-----
Quinn: *turns to Puck* Are you ready, then?
Puck: For our honeymoon? Definitely!
[Scene opens with Sam and Mercedes in bed. Sam stretches, then kisses the top of Mercedes head]
Sam: *Yawns* Good Morning⦠Wife.
Mercy: *looks over at Sam shyly* Good morning, Husband, how did you sleep?
-----
So today is my first official day as a married woman, today we also have brunch with the family and we find out where we are going for our Honeymoon.
[pause]
No, there was no consummating the marriage last night, we had a really great night just talking and getting to know each other. I do really see why you guys put us together, we seem to have a lot in common.
-----
Sam: I slept like a baby⦠Or better yet, like a content, happy man. Are you ready to potentially start the rest of our lives?
Mercy: Oh? And what had you sleeping like a āhappy man?ā I wonder? *chewing on her lower lip she looks like she is debating his question* Hmmmm I dunno that is a lot to ask a girl before breakfast. *she smiles widely at him to let him know she was joking* What would the rest of our lives look like?
-----
I woke up this morning in a comfortable bed with a beautiful woman. Not just some ordinary woman, my WIFE! That was an amazing feeling, unlike anything Iāve ever experienced. We have it, I really believe we have all the potential we need to make this work⦠ *Gives the camera a huge smile.* Ā No we didnāt con-su-mate the marriage last night. *Laughs* Weāve got an awesome amount of chemistry, so itās only a matter of time.
-----
Sam: *Kisses her head again* Mhm⦠*tickles her sides* I donāt know. It might be waking up with this beautiful woman in my bed. Is that so. Then, I guess I should feed you. *Looks up at the ceiling, rubbing her back,* It looks like happy times and funny memories.
Mercy: *laughs* Please i am sure I look a mess, I donāt even have my face on yet. *buries her face in his chest.* Happy times and funny memories? Well that is intriguing⦠okay lets do it then, lets start the rest of our livesā¦but if there isnāt more kissing involved I am walking. Your lips are a deal breaker. *she teased.*
Sam: *Laughs, then bends down giving her a kiss on the lips.*
-----
[Sam and Mercedes get out of bed. Sam goes to the coffee maker and starts brewing coffee, as Mercedes searches through her suitcase. Ā Looking back over his shoulder, he talks to Mercedes, while they each complete their respective tasks.]
Sam: We have a natural rhythm, and we seem to fit well together. Ā Itās nice to know, they really did take their time to match us up.
-----
I believe the cornerstone to any relationship is laughter and being able to have fun together. I am a pretty corny guy. Yet, Mercedes laughs at all my crazy jokes and impressions. Ā Iād say that puts us in a good place.
-----
Sam: *throws his suitcase on the bed. Opening it.* What to wear? *takes out a rumple Tee shirt Ā and jeans.*
Mercy: *stops pulling her things out of her suitcase and glances at Sam and his.* Umm what is going on in your suitcase over there?
Sam: *raises his eyebrow* Ā What?
Mercy: It looks like an earthquake hit you right in the bag⦠did you pack it like that?
-----
So I knew there had to be something about Sam that wasnāt too good to be true. Heās messy. But I donāt mind, my parents were always taking care of each other, what my father lacked, my mother picked up and vice versa. If this marriage turns out like that, I saw we will definitely make it.
-----
Sam: *changes the jeans for shorts* Ā Heyā¦Yes. *gives Mercedes a blank stare* Ā Whatās the point of being super neat when everything is going to end up tossed around anyway?
Mercy: *smiled at his words* Ā Tell me you at least are going to Iron your clothes?
Sam: *shakes the shorts out with a snap* No⦠theyāre fine. *folds the shorts and smooths them with his hand.* Ā A little elbow ironing works just as well.
Mercy: *laughs walking over to the ironing board and iron and pulling them out* I see already I have my work cut out for me as your wife. I can not let you go out of this room looking a hot mess. *sets everything up looking towards Sam and reaches for his clothes*
Sam: *Chuckling* Are you going to iron for me? Aw, thatās so sweet. Ā *hands her, his clothes*. Iām going to watch. *picks up his coffee and stand Ā behind her as she sets to work.*
-----
I like the way she wants to take care of me, and be a good helpmate. Ā She doesnāt have to be a suzie homemaker. Ā But a woman who can cook and doesnāt mind ironing is a treasure.
-----
Mercy: I am. *Begins to iron his clothes* And I expect full payment when I am finished, so you can spend this time coming up with whatever you choose. But coffee, is off that list because I donāt like it.
Sam: *grimaces as he drinks his coffee.* Ā But who doesnāt like coffee?
Mercy: *looks at him with a smile* Why your wife doesnāt. I tried to drink it once and didnāt like the taste.
Sam: *shakes his head a look of disbelief on his face.*
-----
[Scene moves to them getting dressed. Mercedes gives Sam his Ā clothes and pushes him towards the bathroom. Ā Then she giggles as she moves back to her suitcase and lays out her clothes.]
Mercy: So getting up this morning I already learned a few things about hubby. He is not organized, I mean his clothes were just shoved in his bag, Ā but he is sweet man who secretly, or openly I havenāt told him I know, likes to cuddle. He is such a gentleman and he didnāt get offended by my offer to help him with his clothes. I really like being able to joke around with Ā him, and even though I am super corny, he laughs with me and not at me. I guess what I am saying is I really like my husband, who wouldāve thought right?
-----
So apparently while I was in the shower a gift basket came for us. I am not sure what it is but I am excited to opening because so far, everything they have done has been spot on, from picking the most amazing guy for me, to the wedding and reception. This B&B, the room. Everything is just so wonderful that I am not sure they can top it.
-----
Mercy: *sits on the couch looking at the gift basket* Okay I say lets open this bad boy up!
Sam: *rubs his hands together* Letās do it.
Mercy: *laughs taking the bow off the basket and opening the plastic. She hands him a card and pulls out a Husband shirt and a Wife shirt for them.* See now we have to be that couple who wears theses in public. These too. *Holds up a pair of āJust marriedā Sandals*
Sam: *Laughs- opening the card* āCongratulations Sam and Mercedes on your wedding! Ā Hope you enjoy your honeymoon in Puerto Rico!ā Holy Crap, yes! *fist pumps* This is great, Iāve never been there.
Mercy: *looks sad* Puerto Rico? No! Thats where I went on my Honeymoon the first time I did this. *She looks over to Sam trying not to smile* Maybe we can trade with someone?
Sam: *Smile fades -looks concerned.* Ā Ummm⦠*Scratches his nose.* Ā Sure, we can try that I guess. Ā So youāve already been married once?
Mercy: *shakes her head with a laugh* Iām joking! No I havenāt been married before, I havenāt even been engaged, I just wanted to trick the trickster. * leans in and kisses his cheek* I am excited to be going to Puerto Rico with you!
Sam: *pokes his lip out* You got me. Ha ha. Very funny. Ā Do you think weāll travel well together? Are you nervous?
Mercy: *smiles leaning in and kisses him softly* I think its going to be fun, and I donāt see why we wouldnāt travel Ā well together⦠ but as for being nervous? I am extremely nervous just because I have never been to Puerto Rico before.
-----
[Sam and Mercedes continue to talk about their trip. Ā Easily smiling and laughing together excitedly.]
Sam: She got me⦠Now Iāve got to get her back. This will be our first time traveling or doing anything together. Ā But Iām excited. I get to vacation in the sun and spend time getting to know my wife at the same time. Ā This is just what we need to get a little closer to each other.
-----
We are going to have lunch with our families. Ā Iām a little nervous. Ā Her family was really welcoming to me at the reception. Ā I think we have a lot in come, and got along well. Ā Her brothers seem like really great guys. Ā However, Iām concerned about how my mother is going to behave today. Ā She had some not so sweet words for Mercedes yesterday. Ā Iām hoping she has a more positive attitude today. Ā I guess weāll see.
-----
[Scene opens Sam and Mercedes walking towards the dining room to meet up with her parents and brothers, and Samās mom and sister.]
Mercy: *stops walking and looks at Sam* Are you nervous? Cause my palms are sweatyā¦
Sam: A little but itās going to be fine. *Kisses the back of her hand.* We did the hard part yesterday.
Mercy: I know but your mom doesnāt like me and things are always different in the harsh reality of dayā¦
Sam: Ā My mother likes you fine. Ā She just doesnāt care for the way we got married. Besides youāre surrounded by you family. Ā I think sheāll be on her best behavior. Ā And remember leave her to me.*Squeezes Mercedes hand and walks into the room.*
Mercy: I guess I just needed to hear you say that. *smiling, she takes a deep breath as they walk toward towards their families* Hi guys! *walks towards her parents, hugging them*
Amelia: *walks towards Mercy and Sam hugging her daughter.* Merce look at you, youāre practically glowing. I take it you have a āfunā night. *moves to hug Sam and whispers* Its starting so just let em rant it will be over soon Ā
Sam: *Smiles, hugging his mother-in-law, nodding as she speaks* Okay. *He whispers to her.* Ā
Malcolm:*Stands* Ā Glowing what does that mean?
Michael: *folds his arms angrily* It means something happened between those two last night.
Marcus: Something we donāt think we approved of.
-----
Okay so these fools think they are funny, my brothers mean well but they talk too much. I just hope they donāt spill the beans about me to Sam before I had the chance to tell him⦠I am just not ready to find out which guy he is, the one who accepts me being a virgin or the one who doesnāt.
-----
Sam: *Grins while moving over to his mother and sister, kissing them both on the cheeks.* Ā Good afternoon. *He whispers rubbing theirs backs with a smile.*
Mercy: *throws her hands up in frustration* Oh My Gosh will you three just stop it already. Something did happen last night, we got to know each other, we talked and then we went to sleep. *she moved over to hug her father* Oh and for the record if something did happen I am a grown woman and now married so let go already.
Michael: Pops do you hear this?
Richard: I do and I think you three need to mind your business and leave Binks here alone. *kisses her forehead then moves to shake Samās hand* How are you this morning Sam?
Mercy: *walks over to Joanna and Sabrina* Good Afternoon. Its great seeing you guys again.
Sabrina: *gives Mercedes a bright. Then stands Ā giving her a hug.*
Joanna: Likewise.
Sam: *Moves to Mr. Jones extending his hand.* Mr. Jones, nice to see you again sir. Ā
Richard: Ā Call me Richard please, we are family now.
Sam: Yes Sir. Iāll remember that. Ā *smiles, giving the man another handshake then moves to the head of the table taking his seat..*
Mercy: *hugged Sabrina and nodded to Joanna taking her seat.ā So how is everyone today?
Malcolm: Obviously not as happy as you⦠so Sam what exactly did you and my sister talk about yesterday? I mean inquiring minds want to know?
Sam: *Glances at Mercedes* Well, we talked about our careers and families mostly.
Marcus: *smirks* Yeah we know what mostly means
Sam: It means we āmostlyā talked about why you guys are so nosy.
Mercy: Okay stop it!
Malcolm: Merce we are just messing with you chill⦠*looks at Sam* You seem like a good dude and I know given that you have a little sister that this is all in fun, if we were really worried about you, you wouldnāt have been alone in the room with our sister
Sabrina: Oh he knows. Ā Heās as bad as having three brothers all by himself.
Sam: *Smirks* I totally understand. Ā I would have been the same way if this was Sabrina. Ā What Iād like to know is what you guys thought when I came Ā out of Ā these doors?
Malcolm: *laughs* Honestly I wondered what you would do when you saw Merce. We were raised to see the person not the color, and what I saw was a man who might hurt my sister, but then you introduced yourself to us and I thought okay, that shows he is a good dude. But when I saw how you calmed Merce, held her hand and was concerned with her, I knew you were someone who had the potential to be great for my baby sister.
Marcus: I thought you would of ran from the hills once pops came out to be honest. He is an intimidating man.
Amelia: If I may, I thought my daughter hit the jackpot because you are one handsome man I must say. What were your thoughts and the thoughts of your family when Mercedes walked out?
Sam: *took Mercedesā hand.* Ā We were in a nerve racking situation. If I could help make this easier for her it was my duty and pleasure. *His cheeks turned red at Ameliaās words.* Why thank you maāam. Ā You have a gorgeous daughter. Ā Iām the one who hit the Ā . Ā
Sabrina: I thought she was way to classy for my hick brother.
Mercy: *blushed at Samās words and smiled at Sabrina* I just personally canāt believe how right this process was, how right they were about Sam and I. Guys, so Sam owns his own Remodeling and Design company.
Joanna: *looks around carefully.*And what do you do for a living, Sweetie?
Sam: *Smiled, but gives his mother a side long look.*
Mercy: *looks at Joanna* I am the owner and head baker for āHave Mercyās Treatsā a local bakery. We are mostly known for Wedding Cakes and things of that nature but we have it all.
Richard: *clears his throat* Not many people have the Entrepreneurial spirit. Where they can run their own business. Mercy, unlike her brothers didnāt want to go the traditional job route so she went to pastry school during the day and studied at night to get her Masters in Business, that way she didnāt have to rely on anyone but herself, so to see someone else who has the same spirit as hers, you are right you are a good match.
Sam: Thank you again sir. Ā I get it from my mother. Ā After my father passed away, she started her own design company in our home town.
Amelia: *looks towards Joanna* I am so sorry for your loss, you must be very Proud of Sam, from what I can tell he is a wonderful man, perfect for Merce.
Joanna: *smiled to sweetly* Ā Thank you, but my husband died along time ago. Ā Umm, Yes. I am very proud of my son. Just as I can see you are very proud of you daughter. Ā She seems like quite a lovely woman. But Sam being perfect for your daughter?⦠I donāt know about that. Ā My question to you is, how can you be so sure? Ā Mrs. Jones, how long did your husband court you?
Sam: Mother!
Joanna: *Holds her hand up to Sam.* Iām still your mother. Christopher!
Amelia: I have no problem answering that. I met my husband 31 years ago. We dated three months before he asked me to marry him. We were together as man and wife for 4 months before we learned we were pregnant with Malcolm. No we didnāt have some long courtship, but I knew the moment I laid eyes on Richard that he was meant for me.
Joanna: But you knew him. Ā He courted you. Ā Even though you felt he was the one for you immediately, you didnāt run off and get married. (she stressed) Ā You still took sometime to know each other. You and I know that marriage started on the perfect footing are hard. (Looking to Sam.) And one started with a stranger is ridiculous. (Looking back to Amelia) So again I ask how do any of us know if these two are good for each other. Ā They donāt even know that themselves. Ā What I do know is they are playing house, just on a deeper level. Ā
Mercy: *looks at Joanna* Why? Why is it so ridiculous? Why is it wrong to want to have faithā¦
Joanna: Ā You donāt know the first thing about my son. Ā Thatās why? Ā Until yesterday if youād pass each other on the street you would have even taken a second look. Ā
Amelia: What I do know, is that my daughter deserves to find out if this process actually works, what I know is your thoughts are an opinion just like mines. It could fail, but so could mines, so could the relationship of a couple who have known each other for years. But it could work, and the fact is theses are two very grown adults who made a choice, and no matter how much of a fuss you make, they are married and you can either deal with it, accept it and try to have a little faith. Or you can try to come between them and cause unnecessary drama.
Mercy: *looks around the table, then back to Joanna again shaking her head.* You are right we donāt know each other, and the truth is that if I would have seen Sam on the street I wouldnāt of approached him because I wouldnāt think I was his type. But to say this canāt work because we donāt know each other, thats like saying you wonāt be a good mother because you donāt know your child. You may carry that child for nine months but once he or she is born its a learning process for the both of you, and it is hard, you mess up they mess up but it doesnāt make you love them any less. Or if you wanted to adopt child are parents supposed to have a 30 day rule where you take that child in your home and it doesnāt work you give them back? No, you adjust. And I know this is marriage and its kind of different but its the same concept, Sam and I donāt know each other, but we have made a commitment to get to know each other, to make this Ā work. Ā
-----
I know this process is hard to believe for some people. That getting married to a stranger is a recipe for disaster, but I choose to believe that there is something here to build off of and I just pray Sam feels the same way, because i have a feeling his mother is just getting started, its gonna be a long brunch.
-----
Joanna: *sipped her Mimosa, looking between mother and daughter.ā Ā Iām not here to make their lives difficult. Yes, she deserves all of those things, but Iāve never been one to sugar coat my opinions and I refuse to start now. Ā This is a āgetting to know you brunch,ā so you might as well know where I stand. Marriage is difficult at best without stress. And here you two have heaped a whole wheelbarrow full of that on your heads. Ā -Playing games. Ā I know America trivialized marriage to this point. You Samuel should have known better. *Sighs patiently at Mercedesā words. * The difference my dear is, you know your baby. Ā Youāve grown attached to him. Youāve got that common ground with your child and thatās what you two donāt have. *Sitting back in her chair hard.* Ā You thought you werenāt his type, what makes you so sure you are now?ā
Amelia: *sits up to speak but Mercy shakes her head* Now you may-
Mercy: Mom donāt. I know that look, its the Im gonna defend my baby look but I am her daughter in law and her questions and feelings are valid. *Turns towards Joanna* I know that this day and age its easy to marry and divorce, I know that people donāt take stock in working towards something. I have never been an outgoing person, never took chances, I have been sheltered basically my whole life by two amazing parents and three very over protective brothers. No marriage is easy and whether I had known Sam for 5 years or 5 minutes our marriage wasnāt going to be easy. *looks at Sam* I say he wasnāt my type because look at him, you can tell how completely amazing he is just by how he holds himself. And I wouldnāt have approached him because guys who look like that often donāt want the shy sheltered girl, they want someone who is more out there. But having talked to him, like I got the chance too I know without a shadow of a doubt that had we dated we would have ended up right here. So you donāt have to like the situation, and honestly you donāt have to like me as his wife, but I am his wife we made this decision and we are going to stick to it. I donāt believe in divorce, I am all in here its as simple as that.
Joanna: *Gives her son a knowing look* Ā Darlin, them are some real beautiful wordsā¦
Sam: *Cuts in with a patient sigh* Enough, youāve said your peace mom. Now, leave it alone. Ā If it makes you feel better just imagine we are dating, or living together. Ā Take the marriage part away for a while until you can handle the thought of it. Ā Or until we, win you over. Ā You know me, I never quit once I start something. Ā I truly donāt understand what your problem is. Ā And for right now. Ā No disrespect but I donāt care. Ā Now everyone here is going to enjoy the rest of this brunch. Ā Iāll understand if you donāt want to stay.
Mercy: *looks around the table* Can you guys just excuse me for a moment *stands and walks out of sight.*
[Mercedes walks towards the entrance and steps outside. Looking at the camera she sighs,]
Mercy: I had to leave for a minuteā¦it was justā¦emotions were high and I can tell Ms. Evans is just deadset against this marriage.
Mercy: *sighs deeply before turning to Sam* Oh, Iām okay⦠that was just⦠a lot i guess
Sam: Iām here, Iām in this with you. More importantly, your family is supporting you. Ā Remember, let me bare my motherās weight. She only went after you because she knows she canāt get to me.
Mercy: I donāt like that you and your mom are at odds over this Sam. Family is so important to me and I know it is to you. If I could just talk to her maybe she will see that I am not going to hurt you⦠I know you said you can handle her but maybe I can do somethingā¦
Sam: *Shakes head* No, Mercedes. No. I know my mother. Ā She needs time and to see us grow together. Ā
Mercy: Okay Sam I am just not good in these types of situations, I guess we should head back to brunch.
Sam: Donāt worry, Iāll be good enough for the both of us. Sure, letās go. *Places his hand in the small of her back leading her into the dining room.*
Richard: *looks over seeing Sam and Mercedes returning* Is everything okay Binks?
Sam: Everything is fine Mr⦠Richard. Ā *holds Mercedesā chair for her. He sits, Clearing his throat.ā Ā Tell me, is there any advice you can give, for dealing with Mercedes?
Mercy: *sits down nodding, smiling softly.* I am fine daddy. *turns looking at Sam with a smile* excuse me I am awesome.
Sam: *smiles* Says every woman right before she burns your clothes.
Michael: How much time do you have?
Marcus: Who are you kidding Mike, aināt enough time in the world to get through that one.
Richard: *shaking his head* Dealing with her in what way? You seem to be doing a fine job already.
Sam: Advice for how to deal with her when sheās upset. *Looks to Mercedes* Ā What gifts to buy, rather to give her space or bring chocolates. Thatās the kind of stuff I need to know.
Malcolm: *sighs sitting up* The thing you need to know about Merce is that it takes a lot for her to be that upset with you, sheās truly one of those people who give you a million and one chances to do better. But when you have upset her there are two different ways to tell how bad it is, if she is upset but still talks to you, you are fine, just plan some romantic outing, she is a hopeless romantic, used to see her ready romance novels in her free time. But if she doesnāt talk to you, its time to bring out the big guns.
Mercy: Just tell all my secrets!
Richard: Its good he wants to know. And its good for us to see that he wants to know. We head back to Colorado tomorrow and Mal and and Mike head to Atlanta. We want to know he knows how to be there for you, like when you are sad, music helps.
Amelia: Or how you really do carry the weight of others on your back, Sam she isnāt all talk, my beautiful daughter really does just want her family, happy. But she is also stubborn.
Sam: *nodded listening.* Thanks, Iām sure all this will come in handy. Ā Any advice on having a happy marriage?
Richard: *reaches for his wifeās hand* Each marriage is different. The husband and wife both bring something to it. Open communication, is key, you have to be able to listen and speak without judging..
Amelia: And never go to bed angry. Nothing good can come from it.
Sam: Thank you both for the insight. It means a lot.
Mercy: *looks to Sabrina and Joanna* Is there anything about dealing with Sam I should know?
Sabrina: *surprised expression* Ā He tries to do everything, but refuses to pace himself. Ā Which will lead to him being overworked and overstressed. Ā He thinks he knows everything, but really just wants the best for you when he speaks. Oh, and he will listen to you even if he already thinks youāre wrong. So donāt be afraid to speak your mind.
Mercy: *reaches for Samās hand* That is really good to know, I have dealt with overstressed, overworked family before so I have so ideas on how to handle that.
Sabrina: Okay enough sappy stuff. Where are you guys going on your honeymoon?
Mercy: *sat up beaming* We just found out this morning we are going to Puerto Rico! I am so excited I have never been out of the United States!
Sabrina: OMG, can I come. Ā I can fit in your suitcase. Ā I promise you will never know Iām there.
[Camera pulls back on the room as everyone laughs.]
[Scene opens with the two of them in their bed, cuddled close together.]
Jesse: *opens his eyes and looks over at her* Good morningā¦
Kitty: *opens eyes and smiles at her new husband* And a good morning to you, too.
Jesse: Howād you sleep?
Kitty: Like I was on a cloud. You?
Jesse: I went to sleep with a beautiful woman in my arms, woke up, and she was still here. Best sleep Iāve had in a very long time. *smile*
-----
Nothing happened last night except for a few shared kisses. I think weāre going to take it slow for a little while. Whatās a few days when you have a lifetime?
-----
Kitty: Well, Iām glad I could contribute to that then. *pauses* Think we could just pause this moment and just not go to brunch?
Jesse: *chuckles and shakes his head, moving to stand* No, come on... just think. The sooner we get it over with, the sooner we can leave.
Kitty: True. *sits up in bed* Besides, itāll give me a chance to ask your mom all about her ālittle miracle. *smirks*
Jesse: *groans as he walks to the bathroom to brush his teeth* Iām sure sheāll love that.
Kitty: Iām going to warn you now. I will probably tease you mercilessly about that nickname once we know each other a little better. Your mom basically handed me the cutest of holy grails here.
Jesse: *spits into the sink before baring his teeth in the mirror for inspection* Noted. But you do realize that I will be awaiting that same opportunity after I cozy up to your mother and give her my most winning smile. *smiles widely at Kitty to demonstrate*
Kitty: *stands up from the bed and stretches* My family calls me Kitty, and I was their perfect angel growing up. You really think my mom is going to have any embarrassing stories for you? *laughs*
-----
I pride myself on not being easy to embarrass. But my new husband will learn that soon enough. Itās more my family that makes me cringe than things that Iāve actually done.
-----
Jesse: If thereās one thing I know how to do, itās find a personās weakness and exploit it. Just give me enough time, and I will know all of the dirt, Kitten.
-----
My wife is very adorable, but she is a worthy adversary. So she must be destroyed of course.
-----
Kitty: Iāll be sure to have my mom bring out the family albums if weāre ever in New York with them. Youāre going to need the photos handed to you if you want a chance at that happening. *smirks*
Jesse: I look forward to it. *walks past her, stopping to kiss her cheek* Now, letās get to brunch?
Kitty: I still think we should skip it, but if you insist.
-----
[Scene cuts away to Jesse and Kitty wheeling their luggage out of the room then cuts to them heading into the restaurant to greet their families who are sitting at a table already.]
-----
So, weāre having brunch with our families this morning before we head off on our honeymoon. And I wouldnāt say that Iām fully dreading it. The way my family reacted to Jesse at our reception killed most of my fears about whether heād fit in with them or not. But he still hasnāt met my sister, and there was a reason why I was relieved that didnāt happen last night.
-----
Kitty: *takes one of the empty seats at the table* Good morning everybody. I hope you all slept well.
Jesse: *sits in the seat next to Kitty before smiling across the table at his parents*
Bryce: Not as well as Iām sure you guys did. *wiggles eyebrows*
Heather: *slaps Bryceās shoulder* Donāt be crass. Iām sure no one wants to hear about what they did at the hotel last night.
Bryce: Actually, Iām pretty sure America would love to hear about what they did last night in great detail.
Jesse: *grins smugly at Bryce* Well then, Iām sure the world will really love the fact that...nothing happened last night. We were strangers prior to the wedding. Iām not one for sleeping with a woman on the first date.
Caroline: Jesse has always been a perfect gentleman.
Henry: Thatās right. He was raised to always respect women.
Jesse: Itās true. I wasnāt even allowed to use unsavory language in front of women.
Victoria: *takes a sip of her mimosa* What a perfect, little gentleman my daughter has been matched with. How lucky are we?
Adam: Very lucky, dear.
Kitty: *rolls eyes* Enough about what didnāt happen last night. Someone pass me the baby. I need some quality time with my little Mikey since I didnāt get to see him at all last night before you guys left.
[The baby is passed from Heather through the other family members until Kitty gets a hold of her nephew and situates him so heās sitting on her lap and facing her.]
Heather: Sorry about that. Michael was being fussy, and Avery was complaining that her dress was itchy, so we figured we better get them back to the hotel and into bed. You know how kids are.
Jesse: I canāt say that I do, but I will take your word for it.
Caroline: When Jesse was about that age, he really loved getting dressed up and spending time with the adults. I always said it was because he was an old soul. He was our little surprise miracle. Just such a little gentleman, opening doors and helping elderly people cross the street. He was such a different child than his brother and sister.
Jesse: *gives Kitty a tight smile*
-----
My older siblings and parents have a very strained relationship, which was why neither were in attendance at the wedding. Growing up, I was never particularly close with either, but weāve been slowly repairing our relationship.
-----
Kitty: *smiles back at Jesse before turning to face his mom* Well, I canāt wait to hear more about my little miracle of a husband. Iām sure you have so many stories that you could tell me.
Jesse: Donāt encourage her.
Caroline: Oh heās just being shy. When his brother and sister were near adolescence, I really wanted another child, but the doctors told us we were pretty much done in that department. Imagine approaching your fortieth birthday and finding out...the impossible has happened. *smiles over at Jesse*
Jesse: *beams back at his mother*
Kitty: Youāll have to tell me more the next time weāre together. I wouldnāt want to hog the entire conversation with stories about Jesseās childhood since Iām sure that weāre the only two here who would actually enjoy that conversation. *starts making faces at the baby in her arms*
Victoria: We could always talk about when youāll be giving me some more grandchildren since youāre so smitten with your sisterās kids.
Kitty: *rolls her eyes* I just met my husband yesterday, mom. We havenāt really had the time to discuss having a family yet.
Jesse: However, I am more than open to the idea of children. I fully intend to have at least two if not three. So I assure you that it will happen, but we are certainly not in any rush. I would like to have at least a few months, or maybe a year, to enjoy just being a couple.
Kitty: Iām with Jesse here. We need to get to know each other better before we start procreating. Itās way too soon to even start thinking about having kids of our own. I mean, if Heather wants to give me one of her kids, I wonāt say no to that, but really the Wilde child you should be badgering is Bryce for his inability to settle down.
Victoria: Oh donāt you worry about that. Weāve had many conversations about that, and Iām sure there will be many more.
-----
The number one way to get my mother off of my back about anything is to give her some sort of adult beverage and turn her onto one of my siblings. She already had the mimosa, so it was almost too easy. *laughs*
-----
Caroline: I have to say Iām pretty eager for more grandchildren as well. All of mine are nearing marriage age, and before Iām a great-grandmother, Iād like to see Jesse start a family of his own.
Henry: But as the kids said, they arenāt in a rush. I think Jesse is wise to want to wait. Children arenāt something you rush. *looks between Jesse and Kitty* So where are you going for the honeymoon.
-----
Thank you, Dad, for changing the subject.
-----
[A PA shows up with a gift basket and a note that Jesse takes.]
Jesse: Itās funny that you askā¦*opens the note and reads* Dear, Jesse and Kitty, congratulations on starting your journey as husband and wife. May you honeymoon to St. Augustine, Florida be the start of a long and happy life together. Love The Experts. Well, Iāve never been to St. Augustine, but I trust that it will be nice.
Kitty: Iāve never been there either. Should be an adventure for us.
Jesse: Iām glad I packed my shorts. *grins at Kitty then looks into the basket* Oh good, they gave us lots of sunscreen.
Kitty: And itās a good thing, too. Thereās no way Iām spending my first few weeks of wedded bliss burnt to a crisp.
Jesse: Iāll make sure you are well covered. *chuckles*
[Santana, Victor, and Linda, are just beyond the aisle. Linda and Victor tear up, Linda sobbing, and Victor remaining stoic, and they both hug their daughter.]
-----
SANTANA:Ā So, Iām about to get married, and it hits me, right then, that maybe this isnāt the best idea. Iām already anticipating that this marriage might not work out, but thatās not fair, at all. There is someone, who I donāt know, who is willing to marry a stranger, but are they ready to marry me?
-----
LINDA: Mi hija!
[Both of Santanaās parents pull away]
-----
And my dad says the most cheesiest thing in the world. And suddenly, I feel like I can do this.
-----
VICTOR: Youāve made a lot of risky business decisions before, but theyāve always been for someone elseās company. *looks into Santanaās eyes* This time, itās for your own, and Iāll be damned if my daughter doesnāt give it her all.
SANTANA: *fans self to keep tears away and laughs* Thank you, Papi.
[Santana stands before the aisle, her parents right behind her, and walks down it, with them following close by]
-----
SANTANA:If Iām getting married, Iām going to be the best damn wife, I could be. Iām not going to look back, ten years from now, and regret this, because I didnāt put my all, into it.
-----
[Santana makes it to the altar and stands regally, waiting for her bride, and her parents take their seats.]
-----
Iām about to walk down the aisle and I just look at my parents who have been through so much and I realize how much I want that. I want someone to know me that way and to care enough to stick around when things get hard, because the do always get hard⦠Thatās what she said. *Leans forward and waggles brow*
-----
PIERCE: *squeezes his daughterās hand* This is it, Rabbit. Youāre about to get married. I would say there is no turning back but Iāve got the truck gassed up if you suddenly decide you donāt want to do this⦠Iām not saying this because this person is a complete stranger and we donāt know if she has a record, or a history of murdering her spouses or their families in their sleep⦠Iām just saying what a dad is supposed to his little girl on her big day. *smiles*
BRITTANY: Um⦠Thanks dad. But I want to do this. This is going to be good for me. Iām not nervous because Iām too excited. I canāt wait to see her standing there. *smiles brightly then turns to her mom* Mom donāt cry. This is a good thing I promise!
WHITNEY: *wipes away tears* I know itās a good thing if this is what you want, Honey. Ā I just canāt believe my baby is getting married. Youāre so beautiful and you take such good care of us and your sister and you deserve to be happy. *lets a few more tears fall*
BRITTANY: Mom stop! *sniffles and laughs softly* Besides Chicken is your baby Iām just the spare. The one who came first. *sticks her tongue out at her mother before turning to wrap both of her parent in a hug.*
WHITNEY: We both know youāre my baby and Kelly is yours, I just happen to have given birth to her. *laughs and pulls away wiping away tears* Well now my makeup is ruined. *chuckles*
BRITTANY: No, you look beautiful, mommy. And youāre right Iām your baby Chicken is mine!
PIERCE: You both look beautiful. If weāre going to do this we better get going.
BRITTANY: *throws arms in the air* Wooo! Letās get me hitched! *links arms with her parents who are on either side of her* I love you guys. *walks out of frame*
So, itās finally here. The moment where I get married for the first time in my life to someone Iāve never met before. Iāve been sick to my stomach all day because I canāt believe Iām doing this and my mindās racing. My daughters and sister have kept me grounded, but when I walk down that aisle, and my mom lets go of my arm, Iām gonna be all alone.
-----
[The scenes opens to Puck standing at the back of the barn with her daughters, sister, and mother, waiting for the service to begin.]
Esther: You know you donāt have to do this. Thereās a wonderful matchmaker at Temple Hesed. Iām sure they could find you a great girl for you.
Puck: *bounces nervously* Ma, if someone that passed like a billion psych tests, and all of those intense interview questions and be matched me, some old woman at temple is not gonna have as much luck. Besides, I want to do this. Iām so ready.
-----
Iām so not ready.
-----
Puck: My mother is walking me down the aisle. I havenāt had a father since I was nine-years-old. Sheās been the only parent I had, and even though she drives me insane most days and hates nearly every decision I make, sheās always been supportive. Ā
[Shows Puck and Quinnās family and friends settling into their seats, and it doesnāt take long for the music to play. Iva goes out first, tossing flower petals to the ground followed by Hannah and then Sarah before Puck walks down the aisle.]
Puck: As I walk down the aisle, Iām nervous. Iām excited. I feel like I might puke all over the place, especially when I look over and see the people that might be my in-laws. Of course, I donāt know yet because I have no idea who any of them are, but thereās one lady eying me up good. So Iām gonna assume that thatās my new mother-in-law. She does not look like she likes me much. Iāll just have to win her over with my Puckerman charm.
-----
[Stops at the front and turns to watch Quinnās wedding party come down the aisle, followed by her.]
-----
Iāve been trying to focus on my breathing today. I canāt believe itās here, the day Iām getting married⦠again. This is the craziest thing Iāve ever done so far, but while Iām a little scared, Iām also very sure of it. Because if this other person--my wife--is so sure of herself and this marriage to go through with it, then so am I. I believe in us too.
-----
[Quinn is lead toward the back of the barn by her father, but the stop, unable to see inside yet. She holds tight to his arm and takes in a few deep breaths.]
Quinn:Ā Thank you for doing this for me.
Russell:Ā This is the last time though. I refuse to walk you down the aisle a third time, so get it right now or elope if this one fails.
Quinn: (long pause) Thanks⦠dad.
-----
Iām about to go down the aisle. Iām about to see my wife and suddenly, nothing feels real and for a brief, panicked moment, I think I might pass out. My stomach is so knotted, but then I think about her letter, the letter my wife wrote me, and her sense of humor in it, and that calms me. And I breathe and then see her for the first time.
[Scene opens with Sam jumping up and down on the balls of his feet. Ā Cracking his neck from side to side. Ā He blows out a big breath, then paces shakily away from Sabrina, then back towards her.]
Sam: *Looks at his sister* I canāt believe this shit⦠ Why didnāt you let me have a drink this morning? *chants* I can do this. Ā I can do this.
Sabrina: *gives him a concerned shake of the head.* Cause you should be sober when you meet your bride. *Grabs Samās hand to steady him.* Ā I know youāre going through with the ceremony. Ā So, letās get this show on the road.
Sam: *Looks puzzled* How can you be so sure? Ā This is FN bonkers, Iām not sure myself.
Sabrina: *looks at Sam giving him a confident smile. Ā Shrugging. * Ā Youāve already given this woman, -this nameless woman, your word. Ā No matter what I say or do. I know youāre going to go through with this. Your word is your bond.
Sam: Awww, come here. *Pulls his sister into a bear hug, a tear in his eye.*
-----
Sabrina knows me better than I know myself, sometimes. Ā Actually all the time. *Dry laugh.* Her saying that, was just what I needed to hear. Ā I have an amazing family. Ā My mother might not be here right now. Ā But sheāll come around. Ā Iām going to enjoy my sister and the gaggle of friends I have here supporting me. *Glances away from the camera, sadly.*
-----
[Sam stands outside the French doors, seconds from entering the gardens. Licking his full lips he looks back over his shoulder absently, and does a double take. Ā Suddenly, Joanna Evans struts into view.]
Sam: *Turns, sprinting towards his mother, catching her in a hug.*
Joanna: *Hugs him back tightly* I still donāt approve of this wedding.
Sam: *pulls away looking her in the eyes.* I know you donāt. Ā But, Iām going through with it anyway. Ā
Joanna: I know. Ā You, stubborn, stupid ox. Ā But I love you and I just couldnāt miss you getting married. Ā *Pats Sam on the cheek.*
-----
[The French door swing open and Sam steps out into a picture perfect space. Sliding his hands into his pockets he moves forward, hesitantly. The grass is so plush under his feet it feels like carpet]
Sam:My mother showing up was the one thing I wanted to day. Now that sheās here Iām completely ready. Ā Or as ready as I can be considering, Iāve never been this nervous in my life. Ā But despite the nerves, I know everything is going to turn out fineā¦
-----
I have been going back and forth about this in my mind all day. A part of me wants to run the other direction as fast as I can, just to go. But another part of me, the bigger part of me knows that I a ready for whatever I find at the end of this journey. Which for me, is a husband.
-----
*Scene opens with Mercedes three brothers hugging her, before walking through the curtains covered door, that hid the pilard Arch scene, to take their seats. Her oldest brother, Malcolm, whispers āgood luckā as he holds out his arms to escort their mother to her seat and get a good look at the groom to be.
Mercy: *Stands awkwardly trying to calm her nerves* Am I really doing this? Why in the world havenāt you guys talked me out of this? *looks to her two bridesmaids who just walked out the door with big smiles. She turned to her father* Daddy, what if I canāt do this? What if I get there and he justā¦
Richard: *Pulls Mercedes into a hug.* If I thought for one second this was a mistake, I would have stopped you from even applying for this experiment. But you knew what you were getting yourself into, you want to see if you can have what your mother and I have, so here is your chance. I love you binks, and I know you spent your whole life being pushed into things by your mother and I, your brothers, but this time, this is something you want so you have to push yourself.
Mercy: And if I changed my mind and didnāt want to go through those double doors? *She looked at him knowing her mind was made up but needing to hear his answer*
Richard: We can turn and walk away, no harm, no foul.
Mercy: *Swallows hard looking at her dad, the curtains were over the closed doors where no one would know if she just walked awayā¦well her family would, and her groom. Gripping the āTryā Necklace her future Husband gave her she closed her eyes, say a small prayer for strength.* Iām ready.
Richard: Well then binks, letās get you a married.
*Mercedes stands in front of the white curtains that blocked her view, but also everyone elseās. She heard the āWedding Marchā Start and butterflies crept in her stomach. Camera pans around to her face as she opens her eyes and and walks through the curtains/double doors.
-----
Mercy: Sometimes you just gotta take that leap and pray there is someone on the other end to catch you, I am choosing to believe in this process and take that leap, and if I fall, or my soon to be Husband drops me⦠well I have the best support system ever.
-----
[Uneasy footsteps carried Sam shakily a head. Ā A heavy nervous anticipation fills the eloquent, yet simply decorated grounds. Ā Though masked, he can still sense the shock and reservation, apparent on both sides of the aisle. Ā He waves at the well-wishers seated on the groom side. Ā Opting instead, to greet the brideās guest. Ā He shakes every proffered hands. It takes a moment but finally he makes it to the dais.]
Sam: *shakes his hand vigorously trying to regain the circulation to his digits. Holding his hand out in front of himself, he works his hand inspecting his bruised fingers.* Ā Well, this is great. *Laughing* My hand hurts so bad, Iām no longer nervous. *Pointing to the offending row. He clears his throat animatedly.* Brothers? Ā
Malcolm: *Laughing at the joke Malcolmās smile dropped to a small smirk at the word ābrothersā* Yeah āBrothersā as in plural
Marcus: As in THREE
Michael: Count em!
Amelia: *looks at her sons then Sam* Do not let them scare you baby, they are harmless.
Malcolm: Ā Harmless unless provoked. *he said looking at Sam*
[Samās: eyes become the size of golf balls. Ā His head bobs up and down as he mentally counts the men one by one. Ā He wipes his brow, tugging at his collar dramatically as he giving them a hollow laugh.]
-----
*Robin impression* Ā Holy death threats batman, she has a lot of brothers. Ā I never really thought about her family, outside of her mother and father. Itās huge. But I can handle myself. Ā I could sense the mild shock when I entered the room. Ā Both sides were a little taken back. Ā But look, like I told Dr. Wales, love really has no bounds. I wasnāt taught to hate anyone, and Iām not going to risk missing the love of my life for any reason. Ā
So this is it. Iām getting married, and Iām nervous. I feel like Iām going to be sick, but this canāt be too bad, right??
-----
[Marley is with her mother and bridesmaids, getting ready to make their way to the venue. The wedding was taking place at dusk, with chairs and a gazebo where they would say their vows. Marley clutched her motherās arm. There is basically a covered archway so he wonāt be able to see her before she walks down the aisle.]
MILLIE: Donāt be nervous, baby. You look beautiful.
LAUREN: No, you look hot. This guy has no idea how lucky he is!
MILLIE: Though you know we can always turn around, right?
MARLEY: Ā *laughs nervously* Thank you. Ā I think Iāll do this though. I want to do this.
[Marley hugs her friends, and finally her mother. The flower girl, and bridesmaids make their way down the aisle, leaving Marley alone with her mother]
MILLIE: Ā I love you so much, Marley. Are you ready?
MARLEY: *Nodding* Ā I am.
[Ryder stands at the altar, next to his groomsmen, Kyle and Matt, and his best āman,ā his sister Jace. Heās drumming a beat on his thighs and chewing on his lip.]
MATT: *smiles* You ready for this, bud?
RYDER: *exhales audibly, with a grimace* I donāt think anybody would be ready for this.
JACE: You got this, bro. Youāre only gonna be stuck in a relationship with someone who could be the devil incarnate, for a year.
KYLE: Iāve seen you do crazier.
MATT: Yeah, plus she might be really hot!
RYDER: *chuckles* Thanks, guys. Makes me feel so much better.
-----
*snarky voice*So very helpful.
-----
[They collectively share a smile, then line up, in their appropriate spaces.]
So today is my wedding day, and I am feeling a lot of emotions. Iām relieved that itās finally here. Iām excited for whatās about to happen next, and Iām nervous because this could all potentially blow up in my face. Iām not terribly worried that that will happen, but thereās always that like 1% chance that everything could go horribly wrong. It helps that my mother was cleared to travel, and so my parents are here to support me as well.
-----
[Scene opens on Jesse walking down the hall of the church with his mother, Mike, and Andrew.]
Caroline: *pulls Jesse to a stop just outside of the church, fixing his tuxedo* I want you to know that no matter what comes of this whole...thing, Iām proud of you for taking a chance. I donāt understand why it has to be a stranger, but you, my Little Miracle, are going to make an amazing husband. Hopefully, she will be good enough a wife for you.
Jesse: *pulls her into a tight hug* Thanks for being here, Mom. Donāt you worry. Youāre still my number one girl. *kisses her cheek* I love you.
Caroline: I love you too, honey.
Andrew: *walks over to Jesse followed by Mike* Well, hereās the last chance for escape. Mike has the car gassed up in the back. We could be in South Carolina in about four hours and on our way to Mexico by tomorrow.
Mike: *nods and laughs a little, bumping Jesseās arm with his elbow* This is seriously the craziest thing youāve ever done, man. *shakes his head* But if you wanna run, we can totally run our business from Mexico.
Jesse: *shakes his head and glances towards the church entrance* No, Iām totally committed to this whole thing. *takes a deep breath* I guess I should make my grand entrance. Letās go get me married.
[Jesse walks into the church and smiles at his friends and family before walking over to Kittyās family members and friends and introduces himself to her mother, brother and brother-in-law, saying hello to Finn before taking his spot at the front.]
-----
[Kitty and her dad are standing in the alcove just outside of churchās main entrance. She takes a moment to make sure her headpiece isnāt crooked before taking a deep breath.]
Adam: This is your last chance, Kitten. If you want to run, we can turn around, and Iāll drive you anywhere you want to go. You donāt have to do this.
Kitty: I know. *pauses* I want to do this though. Really. I have to give this a real chance.
Adam: Then lead the way.
[He offers her his arm, and she takes it as one of the PAs opens the door for them to enter. Kitty watches as her niece and nephew make their way down the aisle, followed by her sister and her best friend Rachel. She and her father start to make their way down the aisle together, and Kitty pauses for a moment when she gets her first good look at the man sheās going to be marrying.]
Episode 001: Yes, Iām really marrying a stranger! (cont.)
Hey yāall, Iām Norah Puckerman, but I go by Puck, so donāt ever call me Norah unless youāre a family member. Iām 28. I work at Post Office. Yes, thatās right. Iām a postal worker, but that doesnāt mean Iām crazy. Okay maybe Iām a little crazy. I mean, after all, Iām planning on marrying a complete stranger whose name I donāt even know, but other than Iām just your average badass Jewish G.R.I.T.S.. If you donāt know what that stands for, itās āgirl raised in the south.ā So that means I spend a lot of my time playing the guitar, fishing, hunting, and drinking beer and moonshine.
Iām raising two G.R.I.T.S. of my own, Hannah Lee and Iva Lynn. Theyāre twelve and ten, but really they both think theyāre older than me. No, I kid. Theyāre good girls and the loves of my life. So future wife, you have a bit of competition, but as long as you like to have fun, Iām sure youāll become a Puckerman in no time.
-----
[Puck and her daughters enter her motherās house and greet her mother and sister with hugs before heading towards the dining table to take a seat]
Puck: Tonight is shabbat. So we usually have dinner with at my momās with my sister on Fridays. Tonight I get to tell them that Iām going to be getting married in twelve days. Thisāll be the first times Hannah and Iva will be hearing it as well.
Esther: *takes her seat after sheās served everyone and then looks at Puck* Norah, I know that face. You used to make it all of the time when you were little and couldnāt wait to tell a secret.
Puck: *grins brightly as she looks around* Well, I do have some news.
[Hannah, Iva, and Puckās sister, Sarah, look on with mild interest.]
Puck: In like twelve days, Iām getting married.
[The table is silent for about ten seconds]
Sarah: *laughs* Thatās a hilarious joke, Norah.
Puck: *shakes her head at her sister* No, but Iām serious. Iām getting married in twelve days.
Esther: To who? That nice girl you went out with a few months ago?
Puck: *groans* I knew introducing you to her was going to be a bad idea. Ma, let it go. Itās not her. I actually have no idea who this girl is...like name, age, occupation...nothing. Iāll be meeting her for the first time on our wedding day.
Hannah: Mom, thatās the craziest thing Iāve ever heard. How can you marry a stranger? Thatās like...so crazy.
Iva: Yeah, I mean, sheās gonna be living with us? If sheās an evil stepmother, Iām moving in with Dad.
-----
Hannah: Our mom does a lot of crazy stuff, but this is like...insane. I mean, I guess I shouldnāt be surprised by anything she does anymore, but sheās marrying a stranger! Like who does that? I just hope whoever she marries is like awesome and fun.
Iva: I meant it when I said Iāll move in with Dad. At least, his wife is nice.
-----
Esther: You know what? If this is the only way to get you down the aisle, then I support you, and whoever this woman is, sheās gotta be the same kind of crazy to want to go through with this too, right? Hopefully sheāll be a nice Jewish girl from a good family.
[Sarah and Puck groan.]
-----
I love my mom. I really do, but my whole life has been her telling me to bring home a ānice Jewish boy.ā Neither of the fathers of my daughters were Jewish. So she seemed to let that dream go. Then I came out, and it was like her dreams came hurdling back. Future wife, if youāre Jewish, Ā thatās cool. If you arenāt, hey, youāll be getting a little Jewish in you. So itās all a win in my book.
My name is Santana Lopez, Iām 29 years old, I am a strategy consultant for McKinsley & Company, and Iām going to marry a stranger.
-----
[Santana is in her office, at work, typing on her computer and talking with her assistant, then speaking to a group of suits in a conference room]
SANTANA: I am good at my job. One of the best, if not, the best. And I love what I do. How could I not? I work at an easygoing and open-armed firm, Iām treated with respect by those who know my skills, and I make more money than the child stars I grew up watching, on TV. Unfortunately, that all come with the price of, not having enough time for romance.
My mom has been pestering me to find someone for a while. It was actually her idea that I try to get on this show. Well, I think sheāll be happy to know that sheās gotten her wish.
-----
SANTANA: *sets plates at the dinner table, in front of Linda and Victor, then herself* Careful. Should be hot.
LINDA: Oh, itās looks delicious, as always, Mija.
SANTANA: Thank you, Mama. *doesnāt sit down* I have an announcement to make. *pauses while her parents focus on her* I am getting married. In two weeks, time.
LINDA: *stands and hugs Santana* Mija, thatās wonderful!
VICTOR: *also, stands and offers a hug* We are so proud of you, Santana.
SANTANA: Thanks, guys.
[everyone sits down at the table]
VICTOR: And you donāt know to who?
SANTANA: Thatās correct. I only know thatās it to a woman.
LINDA: *grimaces* You know, your abuela wonāt be happy. She expected them to pair you with a man. Have you told her yet?
SANTANA: *sigh* I know she wonāt be happy, and no, I havenāt told her. I wanted to talk to you guys first.
VICTOR: *purses his lips and nods his head* Well, you know that you have our support, no matter what your abuela says.
SANTANA: I know. Thank you. Now eat! Food is getting cold.
-----
Well, that went well, but that wasnāt really the family member I was worried about.
-----
[Cuts to Santana sitting at a small dining table in her abuelaās house. Her abuela is across from her.]
SANTANA: Do you remember how I told you that I was signing up for this āMarried at First Sightā thing? And you told me you were happy for me?
SOPHIA: *smiles warmly and looks at the camera* Of course, I do.
SANTANA: Well, I got on the show.
SOPHIA: Thatās wonderful, Mija! Are you excited to meet your husband?
SANTANA: *exhales* Well, thatās the other thing I needed to talk to you about. *pauses and swallows thickly* Itās to a woman. Iām marrying a woman.
SOPHIA: *scrunches her eyebrows and breathes audibly through her nose and several seconds pass* Well, there must have been some mistake. Couldnāt you pull out? It would be disgusting to force you into something like that. *she puts emphasis on her last word*
SANTANA: Um⦠No, Abuela. Iām not pulling out. Iām going to do this.
SOPHIA: Thatās⦠thatās not right. *her voice grows more intense* You canāt go and marry this woman you donāt know. Itās not right!
SANTANA: *stares at the table* Iām not asking your permission, Abuela. I am doing this. You can either be at my wedding, or not.
SOPHIA: *shakes her head* No. *stands and looks over the camera* I want you all to leave, now, so I can speak with my granddaughter.
SANTANA: *stands, as well* Thatās alright. Iāll be leaving too. *walks out, in rushed steps*
-----
[Cuts to Santana in the backseat of a car.]
I donāt wanna talk about it. I just⦠donāt.
[A loud, consistent stapling sound can be heard as Sam is shown, installing hardwood floor boards in a dust filled house. Ā He looks up to the camera and gives it a lopsided grin. Ā Before putting his head back down and continuing his work.]
Sam : Hi, my names Sam Evans. Iām the owner of a construction and design firm, based here in Charlotte, North Carolina
-----
One of the greatest things about my job is every day, I get to help people make their dreams come true. I sit down with my clients and talk to them, ask questions, make lists. Then Iām tasked with putting together a design that brings their dreams to life. Ā When Iāve finished most of people Ā say, Iāve not only given them what they wanted, but also what they didnāt know they needed. Ā Theyāve fallen in love and know theyāve found their forever home. I guess, I became a part of this experiment, so this group of experts can do the same thing for my love life. Help me find my forever home.
-----
[Sam gets out of his white Ram Ford F-150. Meeting his sister at the door of the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall. Ā He holds the door open, as she scoots under his arm, entering the store first.]
Sam: Today Iām going to go shopping with my best friend and little sister Sabrina. Ā I really want to find out what she thinks about this experiment. I hope sheās on board family is paramount to me. -Having her support, would mean a lot. Ā
-----
Sabrina: *Touches the corner of a Victorian style dresser.* Ā I love this. Ā I think it would be perfect for the Patterson house.
Sam: *Knocks on the dresser top, then goes around it to look at the back.* Ā With a nice, light marble counter top, I think this could definitely work. Ā Good job, Padawan.
Sabrina: *Purses her lips* You will never be my teacher Sam. *tosses her blond hair over her shoulder.* Ā So, you brought me shopping to insult me, huh?
Sam: *Chuckles* Lies⦠You just have a bad memory. Ā Letās not forget about the bunny ear method of tying your shoes, I taught you, youāre still using that one. Ā Oh, and the worm. *Begins to dance in the middle of the store, doing a centipede motion with his arms.*
Sabrina: *Shakes her head in disbelief.* Ā Youāre a nut.
Sam: *laughs with his sister.* No, seriously. Ā I really wanted to talk to you about this new opportunity, I might receive. Ā *Rubs the back of his neck.* Donāt freak, but what if I said I might be getting married in a month.
Sabrina: Ā Married to who? Ā You donāt even have a steady girlfriend. Have they met mom yet? *Shakes her head laughing at Sam.*
Sam: *Scratches his forehead.* Ā Itās a social experiment. Experts try to match you with an ideal mate, and if they find someone who suits you. You marry them. Ā *Hesitates* The catch is the first time you meet them is at the altar.
Sabrina: *Stares at Sam in utter shock and surprise*
-----
My brother has always been crazy but this⦠Mom is going to kill him
-----
Sabrina: And this is a real marriage?
Sam: Ā Yes, Itās real. -Legally binding and all.
Sabrina: Sam⦠this sounds ridiculous.  Why would you want to put yourself in this type of situation?
Sam: *Blows out a breath, shrugging.* This is just a new way of dating. I had to fill out this crazy long questionnaire and actually sit down and talk with these professionals. Hell, this is like the best dating site times 10. I have faith that they know what they are doing. Iād just like to know I have your support if they happen to match me with someone.
Sabrina: Iāll always support you, big brother. Ā But I donāt think you need to go to these links to find a wife. Ā Iāve got 3 friends whoāve been begging to marry you.
Sam: *Shakes his head No.* Iāve seen your friend. *Grimaces. Puts his arm around his sisterās shoulder.* I will, however, need you to help me talk to mom.
-----
[Sam sits at a table in his office, discussing plans with his sister and foreman, Carlos.]
[Scene open: Dr. Holiday walking up to Samās front door.]
Sam: Ā Welcome. *Sam shakes Dr. Holidayās hand *
Dr. Holiday: Nice to see you again Sam. *Walks further into the house.* Ā This is a lovely home. Ā I thought you said you were a messy man.
Sam: *laughs, wiping his face.* Ā I am messy. Ā But I donāt like my house to be. Ā I pay someone to keep the place picked up for me.
Dr. Holiday: Is cleaning up after you something you expect your wife to do?
Sam: *shakes his head.* Ā No⦠I mean if she wants to that would be a bonus. Ā But Iām not expecting it. Ā We can always hire someone to do light cleaning.
Dr. Holiday: Okay, well, just remember itās something you two will have to discuss Ā If your matched. Ā Okay, Iād like a tour of your house particularly your bedroom.
Sam: *nods* Ā Right this way.
[Scene Sam and Dr. Holiday are in Samās overflowing closet. Dr. Holiday has her hand on a stack of Sam shirts as she speaks to him. He laughs, then shows her his football gear from high school. Scene progresses to them leaving his bedroom.]
Dr. Holiday: *points to a weathered picture of a woman and man, thatās in a double silver frame with a house.* Ā Who is this? Ā
Sam: * licks his lips.* Ā Itās my mother and father.
Dr. Holiday:Ā And why the house?
-----
-----
Sam: Well, my father built the house for my mother before they were married. See, my dad was 5 years older than my mother and crazy about her. Ā Heād ask her to marry him every Sunday after church. My mom liked him but thought he wasnāt ready to be a husband. Ā So she told him one Sunday, if he built her a house sheād marry him. Ā And thatās exactly what he did. Ā He died the night I was born, taking my mother to the hospital. But my mother never let his memory die and that why building house is our family business today.
Dr. Holiday : Thatās a bitter sweet story Sam. But I like how you seem to take everything in stride and a cute smile too. Ā Thatās why weāve found you a match.
Sam: Ā What? Ā So⦠Iām getting married?
Dr. Holiday : *Smiles * Yes you are.
Sam: *bends down and hugs the doctor* Wow!
-----
When Dr. Holiday told me Iād been matched, my mind shut down for about twenty minutes. Ā I have so much to prepare but itās not real for me just yet. Ā I still have to tell my mother, that this is really happening. Ā Iām not sure how she is going to take the news. Ā I feel like she been waiting for me to have that perfect love story like hers. Ā But sheās got to realize this is my life, and my story.
-----
[Sam holds up pizza and a 6 pack of beer. Ā Putting it on the table, he kisses his mother on the cheek.]
Sam: *looks to his sister, rubbing the back of his neck.*
Sabrina: *shakes her head, nodding towards their mother.* Tell her.
Joanna: *looks between both her children.* Tell me what?
Sam: *takes a swig of his beer.* Mom, Iām going to be getting married in two weeks. Ā That experiment, that I told you about. They found me a match.
Joanna: No, No! and Hell No! Thatās the stupidest thing Iāve ever heard of. Ā Sam you have never had a problem dating.
Sabrinaās: *mouth drops open.* Thatās what I said.
Sam: *Glares at his sister.* Itās about more than finding dates mom. *looks to his mother.* Ā Itās about finding a woman special enough to be my wife. Ā Itās better than online dating. Ā Which is really just trying to find the cutest puppy in the pet shop.
Joanna: Ā if you want a wife that bad let me pick her. Ā At least youād know what she looked like Evans! This is ridiculous.
Sam: Ā A team of specialist is hand picking me a bride, mom. Ā People who know what it takes to maintain healthy relationships.
Sabrinaās: *mouth forms a perfect.*
-----
I think I just went too far.
-----
Joanna: *in a calm tone* I love you, Sam. Ā And at the end of the day you are an adult. Ā So if you want to make this colossal mistake. *Opens her hands wide.* Then itās your choice but I refuse to be a part of this.
Sabrina: *Looks crestfallen* No mom. You canāt do that.
Sam: What if this person turns out to be the one, and you miss my wedding mom.
Joanna: Itās not real. Ā And you and I both know this sham isnāt going to last. Ā Do you really think this is what your father would want you?
Sam: Sadly, mom, I guess weāll never knowā¦
-----
Things did not go well with my mother sheās not coming. Ā A part of me feels like her not supporting me is going to jinx the marriage before it even gets started. Ā Iāve never not had my mother in my corner. But you know what. Ā She raised me to be a man and as a man I make my own choices. Ā I think this is the right move for my life. Ā Whatās the worst thing that happens, it doesnātā work. Ā But then again what if it does.
Iām Finn Hudson and welcome to my life. Totally kidding, but Iām 25 years young and from Boston, Massachusetts. Go Patriots! As of right now Iām in the reserves for the United States Air Force and when Iām not doing that Iām a mechanic. I decided to be on Married at First Sight because letās face it, right now itās hard to date with being gone once a month on the weekends, work and deployments. Maybe just maybe I can find that girl without really having to look.
āā
[Finn walking into Olive Garden wearing his Utility uniform. Finn spotted his mom right away and smiled at her. His smile always grew bigger around his mom because he knew he was doing the right thing for her.]
Finn:Ā So I have something to tell you. I promise itās not a deployment this time.
Carole: It must be big news if you showed up in your uniform and at lunch. When I know all you guys go to Buffalo Wild Wings and eat for an hour.
Finn: And watch sports, but yeah itās kinda big. Iām getting married. Next week.
Carole:Ā Oh Finn! Wait who are you getting married to? Do I know her and it better not be your last girlfriend.
Finn: No I promise itās not Christina. Itās for a tv show. I mean my love life has been like the worst. Maybe I can find a girl who likes me for me. And my love for sports.
Carole:Ā If youāre happy Finn I support you, but please make sure youāre doing this for you and not because all your friends are getting married and have kids. I know you want to be able to give your kids what you never had, but you need to be happy first. I supported you with football and when you joined the military. Iāll support this, but make sure youāre happy okay?
Finn:Ā I will mom. My goal in life is to now make you proud, my wife and my kids when that time comes. I know dad is already happy, but I want to do this.
[ Finn stands up and hugs his mom. Talking about his dad was always hard for them and Finn was always the one to make sure she was okay since he was the man of the house. After that hug they both sat down and ordered their food and ate.]
-----
I think my mom took it pretty well. She knows that I strive to do what my dad did and she knows I want to finish what he started with a family. As long as I love her I know my mom will.
Today Iām going to have to tell my parents that Iām getting married over Skype. I wish I could do it face to face, but Ohio is a little too far away. Hopefully, they will be able to fly down for the wedding. My momās health hasnāt been the greatest.
----
[Jesse carries his open laptop into his office and calls up his parents, waiting for them to answer with the camera open and reveals his mother and father. He smiles widely and waves at them.]
Jesse: Hi Mom, whereās pop? Grab him. I have some news.
Caroline: Hi honey, hang on. Iāll call him over. *looks away from the camera and calls out* Henry! Come here. Jesseās on the computer. He says he has some news.
Henry: *arrives a few moments later* Hello son, I was just out in the garden. Mom says you have some news?
Jesse: *nods, smiling again* Yes, I have some news. Iām getting married in thirteen days.
Caroline: *blinks and then her face lights up* Oh Jesse, thatās wonderful news. Did you say thirteen days? Why are you getting married so quickly, honey?
Henry: Yes, who is this girl that youāre marrying so quickly? Sheās not in a...um...family way is she?
Jesse: *shakes his head with a laugh* No, nothing like that! Remember. I told you both that I would be signing up for that experiment where Iād marry a complete stranger? Itās like a matchmaker thing.
Caroline: *gasps* Oh thatās right. I remember you saying that. So they picked you a wife and now youāre getting married? You donāt know anything about her? Not even her name?
Jesse: Nope, not even her name. We wonāt meet until weāre at the altar.
Henry: Well, are you sure that that is something you want to do, Jesse? This woman could be anyone off of the street.
Jesse: I know, Dad. I know. Iām just choosing to trust the system. After all, this thing works kind of how my website works. So, I know that thereās something to this.
Caroline: Well, if this is what youāre doing, honey, you know that we will be there to support you. I just hope that they pick a woman who is worthy of my Little Miracle Boy.
Jesse: Mom...I thought we agreed that youād stop calling me that. Iām 32.
Henry: Thatās right. Heās a grown man, Caroline. Donāt treat him like a baby.
Caroline: Well, I canāt help it! He is my baby. I still remember when we brought you home from the hospital-
Jesse: Mom! Mom, weāre getting off topic. I just want to make sure that you guys would be good about coming to the wedding? Itās going to be down here. So youāre going to have to fly.
Caroline: Of course weāll be there. You think Iām going to miss my Little Miracleās wedding day?
Henry: Iāll get the clearance from Momās doctor, but we will try our hardest to be there.
----
My mom just had to have a major surgery, and Iām just hoping that sheāll be cleared to fly. It wouldnāt feel right to get married without her being there.
I am Ryder Lynn, and I am 25 years old. I am the manager at a gaming lounge and I am getting married!
-----
[The scene showcases Ryder at his work, who appears to be telling a story to a group of people, ranging from preteens to adults, and even an elderly man. They all appear to be amused, while Ryder makes wild hand gestures.]
-----
RYDER: Iād say Iām kind of an uninteresting person, but Iāve made a relatively good life for myself. A steady job. A successful business. Strong friendships. All thatās missing is love.
-----
Ryder is the nicest guy in the world! Iāve never met anyone who cares so much about so many people. Heād be a great husband. Hell, if either of us swung that way, Iād be proud to call him mine.
-----
[Ryder and Jace are seen knocking on a front door and let in by their parents.]
RYDER: Iām about to tell my family whatās going on, I hope they take well, or at least, support my decision.
[Ryder and his family are all sitting in a living room.]
RYDER: So, there is obviously something I wanted to tell you all.
GINA: Really? What⦠I didnāt know you were serious with anyone.
RYDER: *twiddles his thumbs* Well, Iām not really. Iām marrying a stranger⦠For a reality show.
BEN: A reality show? Youāre going to marry a stranger so you can be on a reality show?
RYDER: Well, itās not for the reality show, really. They scientifically match you up with someone perfect for you. Thatās why Iām doing it. I want to meet the one, you know? Itās a reality show, so they can document the results.
BEN: This is completely against the sanctity of what marriage represents! You mean youāre going to live with a stranger and act like youāre married?
RYDER: No Dad, Iām getting married in a few weeks. Wedding and all. Iāll be staying with this girl for a year, then Iāll decide whether to stay married or not.
GINA: A year? Sweetie, thatās a really long time!
RYDER: I know, guys! I know. I get the risks and the weirdness, but I donāt want to debate about it. I am going to do this. I was just hoping you would come to my wedding.
BEN: *looks at his wife* Well⦠of course we will.
GINA: Ben!
BEN: Yes, Gina. Heās our son. We still need to be there for him. Protect him.
GINA: You canāt really be supporting this!
BEN: Iām not! But you know as well as I do that there is no convincing him to not do something when he says heās gonna do it!
GINA: *looks at the floor for a few seconds* Okay.
JACE: Well, Iām happy youāre doing this and I wish you all the luck in the world. *stands and hugs her brother*
RYDER: Actually, sis, I was hoping you would be my best man.
JACE: Really?!
RYDER: Well, yeah. Duh!
JACE: *raises her hands in the air in triumph then hugs her brother again* Thank you, so much!
RYDER: *laughs* Of course.
-----
Whelp, that could have gone better. But they also, agreed to come, so it also could have gone much worse!
Episode 001: Yes, Iām really marrying a stranger!
Hi guys my name is Mercedes Jones, I am 27 and originally from Boulder Colorado. I moved to Charlotte a little over 3 years ago to start my own bakery. Baking, creating designs its my passion and so I am very thankful I get to do it.
-----
[Shows Mercedes inside her bakery handing a group of kids free cupcakes, then heading in the back to start decorating a wedding cake.]
Mercy: I have been getting a lot of Wedding Cake orders so I should have known it was my sign. I am not a risk taker for sure, I mean this Bakery used to be my Auntās little bistro, it had customers that had already tasted my desserts so I knew I had a bit of a following, but applying for this, this was my big risk of 2016.
-----
I applied for this Marriage at First Sight, experiment, because I want to believe that there is a thing as the perfect match and if mines is out there, maybe this will make us find each other. The craziest thing is that I actually got accepted for this and I was told that I am getting married in 12 days. Its a little surreal you know? I never win anything and essentially I won a husband. Telling my family I am going to be getting married to a stranger is going to be fun. I grew up in a very loving household, with two amazing parents and three older brothers, one of whom is my twin, older by 10 minutes, I refused to come out I was told. [Laughs] Since neither my brothers nor my parents live around here, I get to tell them the news via Skype. Now I am doing my brothers first because they are gonna be harder on me than my parents.
-----
Mercy: *sits in front of the camera with a wide smile greeting her brothers.*Hey guys! So I am glad you all are on here.
Malcolm: Whatās up family! Okay Merce what is this meeting for I am on the clock I have an appointment in 30 minutes
Marcus: So? Donāt you guys all run late anyways
Malcolm: Shut up! I actually donāt!
Michael: Can we get on with this I was actually in the middle of something here.
Mercy: *Rolls her eyes at her brothers. They were worse than girls sometimes.* Guys! I am not gonna keep you I just need to you get up here on the 17th of this month. I am getting married and you canāt miss it.
Malcolm, Marcus, Michael: *Stare at the screen taking in her words then cry out in unison* WHAT?
Mercy: I mean I told you that guys that I was applying to be on āMarriage at First Sight and apparently they found me a match.
Malcolm: *scoffs* Considering the person you are I find that highly hard to believe. I mean Merce letās be honest here, you are the best little sister but sometimes you can be naive and we all worry about youā¦.now you want to marry a complete stranger?
Marcus: Mal is right Cedes. You didnāt even like sharing space with Michael and yaāll shared a uterus. You guys were wombmates. What makes you think you can live with a stranger. Ā
Michael: *voice in the background says sheās completely turned off now*
Mercy: MICHAEL! Were you in the middle of bumping uglies when we called? Why would you answer the freaking call?
Michael: Uh because it was you guys calling, I always answer no matter what. And you really need to stop calling it bumping uglies. How you gonna get married and you canāt even say the word Sex.
Malcolm: *hits his head* She donāt need to be saying sex anyways it aināt like she having it.
Mercy: Oh my Gosh can we just talk about this marriage and not all this extra stuff
Marcus: You know whoever this dude is she aināt even gonna let him touch her, yaāll know we all done made her a Prude.
Michael: Something til this day I am proud of.
Mercy: STOP IT! I am 27 years old and I am getting married okay? He will be my husband so that means if I want to have sex with him then I will!
-----
I love my brothers I really do, but sometimes being the only girl it sucks. My mom can only do so much, because we are out numbered. I know they mean well, and they want me to be happy. But they are such a bunch of hypocrites.
-----
Malcolm: Okay Merce calm down, donāt be getting all angry and going all crazy on us. You know we want you happy and if this is going to make you happy, then you know I will be there.
Marcus: Count me in too. We got you Babysis.
Michael: *sighs* Well I guess I donāt have a choice now do I? Tell me Merce what does this dude look like? He got any hot relatives?
Mercy: *slaps her forehead.* Perv I swear! Look I donāt know what he looks likes all I know is that we were matched up to be a perfect fit, and his ring size. That is it.
Michael: Naw Mercy it aināt going down like that I mean you donāt know nothing about dude? You do realize that that means he could look like anything or anyone and letās be real here you either gonna get stuck with Urkel or Stephan.
Marcus: Or Fat Albertā¦just saying
Mercy: You guys know I donāt care about all that. I just want a good man and if he is my match then he might be that good man.
Malcolm: Michael leave her alone okay we are going to support her in this and that is final!
Michael: FINE! But i will only console her after the divorce, after I say I told you so. I know you better than anyone Mercedes Jones I know you are not the marry the stranger type of girl. But Like Mal said we got you. No matter what.

Like I said they are a mess., but I love them. After I got off of Skype with Marcus and Michael, Malcolm stuck around to talk to me and give me some big brother advice.
-----
Malcolm: How sure are you that this is what you want to do? Like on a scale of 1 to 10
Mercy: *sighs leaning forward* 9 Mal, I know it seems weird for me, but you know I never do anything without being pushed. I wouldnāt have gone to Prom had you not encouraged me to go, I wouldnāt have the bakery if mom and dad didnāt push me to it. I want love and relationships but I am so afraid of getting hurt, that I have closed myself off from guys.
Malcolm: That jackass Brendan really did a number on you Merce, so its understandable that you would be afraid to get back out there, but there are other ways, other guys.
Mercy: So you want me to go out on some meaningless dates, or sign up online, when I can have a man handpicked just for me? I told myself if I got picked for this then it was meant to be and out of thousand, they found my perfect match. Its my blessing and I would be a fool not to take it.
Malcolm: *smiles brightly* That is all I wanted to hear. I am sure he will be amazing and if on the off chance that he isnāt you nave us with you okay? Michael, Marcus and I just want what is best for you. We love you.
Mercy: I know, I love you too.
-----
Now its time to Skype my parents and tell them I will be getting married. They were pretty encouraging when I decided to sign up, though to be fair none of us thought I was going to get picked.
-----
Mercy: *chews her bottom lip as she waits for the computer to connect, then smiles brightly as she sees her parents smiling back.* Hey guys how are you?
Richard: *smiles seeing his baby girl* Hey binks how are you?
Mercy: I am good daddy how are you and momma doing?
Amelia: We are good just got in from an afternoon walk.
Mercy: Oh thatās great well I wonāt keep you I just thought you should know that I am getting married.
Richard: Youāre what?
Mercy: Getting married. That show I told you about, well they found my perfect match and I am getting married.
Amelia: Oh my goodness you are serious arenāt you?
Richard:*sighs leaning back in his chair* And this is what you want? To marry a complete stranger?
Mercy: I havenāt had luck with guys I have picked out, so maybe this time will be different, maybe this time I will actually find love.
Richard and Amelia: *look at each other for a moment then back to the screen.
Amelia: When to do need us there?
Mercy: *Smiles brightly, clapping her hands together.* Well I need you guys here as soon as possible⦠I am getting married on the 17th, and I know its soon, but its happening, and I just need to go dress shopping and I canāt do that without you momma.
Richard: Have you told your brothers?
Mercy: I have, they wereā¦well they were them but they are coming.
Amelia: Then I will be there tomorrow and your dad and brothers can come a few days before.
Richard: Yeah that will give me time to talk to them about what is and isnāt appropriate on camera.
Mercy: *smiled brightly* Thanks Daddy and mama I will see you in the morning.
So I am Marley Rose, Iām twenty-five and I am from Savannah, Georgia, I went to college in Asheville, and now Iām here. Iām a Social Worker, so I work with kids, and I love my job! I signed up for Married at First Sight because something was missing in my life, and here I am!
[Marley is heading into her apartment, and puts her keys on the key hook. A small dog runs up to greet her, and she bends down and pets her]
Marley:Ā I guess I applied for the show because I want my happily ever after, and I havenāt met him yet. It isnāt that I havenāt looked, I just havenāt found him yet. Honestly, whatās better than having someone matched perfectly for me? Iām really excited about this!
-----
Ā I feel communication is the key to a strong marriage, and seeing that I think weāre both going into this for the same reason, to fall in love, might work towards our advantage.. I just really hope our first time meeting gives me the āpopā feature. You know, heart soaring, and foot popping. Corny, I know!
-----
[Marley is heading into Fig Tree Restaurant. She has on a black and white stripped dress, and her hair is down in loose waves. She spots her mother, and heads over to her.]
Marley: Mama! I am so glad you came! I have something I need to tell you!
[Millie Rose is a larger woman with a kind face, she stands up, and kisses her daughter on the cheek]
Millie: It seemed pretty important, is everything alright?
Millie: Ā Youāre what? Did you just say youāre getting married??? You donāt even have a boyfriend!
Marley: I am getting married, and I donāt have a boyfriend.. I actually wonāt meet him until we get married. *Marley tucked her hair behind her ears, and blushes*
Millie: Youāre marrying a stranger? Are you sure about this, Marley? This is a big deal, marriage is a big deal.. I donāt know if youāre ready.. You have no idea who he is! What if heās no good??
Marley: Mom, they run a complete psychological background check, and he is a perfect match for me. Weāre compatible on every level⦠what if this is my one shot at true love?
Millie: If youāre sure about this.. Youāre a grown womanā¦. I canāt believe my baby is getting married!
[Millie stands up, and hugs her daughter tightly. The two hold each other for a moment, before sitting down and finishing their meal.]
-----
I really think that went well. I knew my mother would worry, but Iām so glad she supports me, and that is the most important thing!
I suppose my case is a special one. I sort of was in a serious relationship with a guy, like married to him, and now Iām going to marry a girl!
[Quinn gets ready for her work day, fixes hair and applies make-up.]
Quinn: Thatās why I applied to the show. Because I want to be a wife, I want to have a family, and I had already used so much of my life on a marriage that seemed doomed from early on. So Iād rather be paired with someone I, at least, have a chance with.
-----
I think Iāll make a really great wife. I thought I was the first time, I just wasnāt compatible with my husband. Part of that was probably because I realized I was attracted to women.
ā
[Quinn walking to her parentsā home. Judy opens the door and lets her inside]
Quinn: But today, I tell my parents Iām getting married in, like, two weeks to someone Iāve never met before. And⦠I think they might not be thrilled.
ā
[Quinn sits down on the couch in Russell and Judyās living room. She shifts and then takes in a deep breath and lets it out slowly. Russell and Judy are each sitting in armchairs, opposite her. Russell seems stern, Judy keeps glancing around, trying not to look at the camera.]
Quinn: I suppose I should just say it. Iām getting married. In two weeks.
Judy: What do you mean youāre getting married. You just got divorced, Quinn!
Quinn: *holds up hands* Okay, I know, Mom, but that marriage was over for years now, honestly.
Judy: Well, who is this man?
Quinn: Itās⦠going to be a woman. Like we had talked about before. And I donāt know who she is, weāve never met.
Judy: Are you crazy?
Quinn: *tries not to laugh* No, but this seemed like a good idea. Iāll get paired with somebody whoās supposed to be great for me. After last time, not knowing it wasnāt going to work, this seems so much better. Itās set up to succeed, not fail.
Judy: *sighs* Oh, Quinnā¦
Quinn: *looks at Russell* Dad
Russell: If itās whatās going to make you happyā¦
Quinn: I hope so.
Russell: Weāve always done our best to support your decisions, Quinn. This time, it isnāt going to be any different.
Quinn: So youāll be there?
Judy: *sighs* If we must!
Quinn: *sarcastic* Thanks, Mom.
-----
[Russell is walking Quinn to the front door.]
Russell: *quietly* Maybe this wasnāt the best way to do this, Quinn.
Quinn: I didnāt think Iād get chosen for this, to be honest. I just thought it seemed like a really good idea. I still think it is. I feel like I lost years, I want to make up for them. I donāt want to waste time looking for someone and missing out even more if this would work out.
Russell: I understand. Itās just all very⦠public.
Quinn: I know. I still think itās worth it.
[Russell nods and hugs Quinn at the door before they exchange goodbyes as she leaves]
ā
Well, that could have gone worse, so I think weāre in the clear and Iām getting married!
Hello. Ā I was told I needed to take a moment to introduce myself to our viewers. Ā My name is Rachel Barbra Berry and I originally hail from NYC. Ā If you are a Broadway enthusiast, you might recognize me from my days on the stage. Ā I am currently living in Charleston where I teach music, direct and run a community musical theatre group. Ā I suppose Iām here for the same reason as everyone else. Ā My love life hasnāt exactly proved fruitful and I want to find my other half. Ā Today Iām meeting my dads to tell them about the show and my impending nuptials. Ā Iām not entirely sure how this meeting is going to go and to be honest, Iām rather terrified. Ā Wish me luck!
-----
Rachel: *looks at the camera and flashes a nervous smile before opening the door to reveal her fathers* Here goes. Ā Dad, Daddy ā hi!
Hiram: *Pulls daughter into a warm embrace* Rachel, sweetheart. Ā You look ā anxious. Ā *turns to his husband Leroy* Doesnāt she look anxious? Ā *then back at his daughter* Is everything alright?
Rachel: *smiles brightly and nods* everything is fabulous. Ā Actually, things are better than fabulous. Ā Perfect really.
Leroy: *Narrows his eyes and raises his brows as he studies his child* Rachel Barbra Berry, I know you. Ā I know when your voice climbs an octave and a half in three sentences, everything is not fine. Ā Whatās going on? Ā Are you in trouble? Ā Did you lose your job and - *Pauses when he notices the camera crew* Rachel ā why is a camera crew standing in your living room?
Rachel: *clasps her hands together and flashes her fathers a sheepish grin* Yes, see, why donāt we have a seat in the living room. Ā I have something rather interesting to tell you.
Hiram: *Sits down next to his husband, watching his daughter pace* Rachel, why donāt you calm down and talk to us?
Rachel: *briefly looks between her parents before resuming her almost frantic pacing* I ā do you remember how I said I desperately wanted to get married one day? Ā Well, see, after countless awful dates and tubs of ice cream, I decided it was time to take my future into my own hands.
Leroy: *confused, purses his lips and glances over at his terrified husband* Rachel, stop. Ā Youāre rambling incoherently again. Ā What do you mean by youāve taken your future into your hands? Ā Have you met someone? Ā Have you been seeing someone without telling us? Ā Because if thatās the case ā
Rachel: *shakes her head wildly* No, I ā mean, yes, but no.
Hiram: *blows out a breath, stands up and walks over to Rachel* Honey, listen. Ā Whateverās going on with you ā itās okay. Ā Your father and I will always be here for you and ā
Rachel: *pulls her hands away and rakes them through her hair* No, Iām not losing my mind or seeing someone in secret. Ā Iām ā Iām getting married.
Leroy: *jumps to his feet* WHAT? Ā You just told me you werenāt dating anyone? Ā Were you lying or simply delusional? Ā *Stabs his finger towards the cameras* Is that what the cameras are for? Ā To make sure you have witnesses? Ā Ā
Hiram: *quickly steps between his husband and daughter* Leroy, calm down. Ā Let Rachel finish. *turns back to Rachel* Explain.
Rachel: *purses her lips while tapping her foot in frustration* Ā I wasnāt lying a moment ago nor am I lying now. Ā The cameras are here because Iām starring in a reality show.
Leroy: *huffs* I feel so much better. Ā Rachel Barbra Berry, we taught you better than this! Ā What were you thinking? Ā Youāre a former Broadway Star! Ā A teacher! Ā You told us you didnāt want to live in the limelight! Ā You gave up stardom to be a teacher and now ā now this? Ā You really have lost your mind. Ā How do you get out of this ridiculous contract?
Rachel: *glares back at her ranting father* What? Ā Youāre not making any sense. Ā I donāt wish to be released from my contract and thereās absolutely nothing wrong with my chosen profession. Ā I make a difference in my studentsā lives. Ā Look, since youāre clearly not going to listen to reason, let me reiterate: Iām getting married.
-----
Yep, it was like ripping off a band-aid. Ā Only more painful.
-----
Hiram: Enough, Leroy. Ā *leans towards his husband and whispers* Sheās clearly having some sort of emotional breakdown. Ā I knew we shouldnāt have let her leave New York. Ā *turns back to his daughter* Rachel, you arenāt making any sense. Ā You just told us in no uncertain terms that you werenāt dating anyone, so how on earth can you be getting married?
Leroy: *stares* I canāt believe what Iām hearing. Ā Not only did you sign up to be on a reality show, but you signed up to give yourself to some stranger? Ā Did your father and I teach you nothing about love and marriage? Ā You canāt ā love doesnāt work like that! Ā It takes time to develop! Ā Hiram, help me here.
Hiram: *exhales deeply* No.
Leroy: What do you mean no? Ā Sheās lost her senses!
Hiram: *pulls his husband to the side* You know our daughter. Ā The more we push her in one direction, albeit the sane one, sheās going to run in the opposite. Ā We both know - *turns to Rachel* we do not approve of this nonsense Rachel, but you are our daughter and weāve always promised to support you.
Leroy: *growls* Hiramā¦
Rachel: *nods and blinks her burning eyes* I understand. Ā Will you at least attend the wedding? Ā You never know, the three of us might truly like him.
Hiram: Ā Of course, Rachel. Ā Of course.
Rachel: *needing a few moments to collect her thoughts, Rachel excuses herself and walks to her room*
-----
If you donāt mind, Iād like a few moments to myself.
-----
[After a few minutes, Rachel reemerges and sits down across from her dads]
Leroy: *sighs softly* Rachel, Iām sorry. Ā I shouldnāt have reacted so strongly. Ā This *waves towards the camera* just seems ludicrous to me. Ā Youāre a talented, beautiful and strong young woman, so why? Ā Why would you put yourself in such a potentially painful situation? Ā What if you donāt like the person? Ā What if we donāt like him? Ā I ā I donāt want my only daughter settling for some low life who canāt get a date, let alone a wife. Ā *he places his hands over Rachelās* You deserve the world, Rachel.
Rachel: *wipes her tear-filled eyes and smiles* Oh Daddy. Ā I know this all sounds insane, but ā I really have a good feeling about it. Ā I need to see this through. Ā *shrugs* Besides, the show is run by professionals. Ā They interviewed me at length and promised they would pair me up with someone who is not only compatible, but someone who shares my core values. Ā *squeezes her fatherās hand* Plus, Iām not alone, you know. Ā Kitty auditioned as a form of moral support and they selected her as well.
Hiram: *Scoffs* Oh, Iām sure her parents are thrilled. Ā *Exhales softly and looks at his daughter* Ā We still donāt agree with your choice, but - *pauses and laughs* it wouldnāt be the first time. Ā We just want you to be happy. Ā Like your father stated so eloquently, you deserve the world.
Rachel: *nods as her smile widens* You have no idea how much your support means to me. Ā I promise everything is going to work out. Ā Youāll see.
Leroy: *Stands up and clears his throat awkwardly* You do realize - *he looks over at the cameras* - he better not hurt you.
Rachel: *nods* I know, Daddy. Ā Listen, why donāt we go get dinner. Ā Iām famished and would like to spend some time with my parents before they have to give me away.
Hiram: *sniffs and pulls her into a tight hug* Never, Rachel. Ā Never. Ā *kisses the top of her head* Dinner sounds nice. Ā Itāll give us a chance to discuss the details and ā do we get to help you pick out your wedding dress? Ā Please tell me this asinine show isnāt planning on taking away my God-given right.
Rachel: *laughs against her fatherās chest* Of course. Ā I wouldnāt dare pick out a dress without your input. Ā *Steps back and retrieves her purse from the end table*
Leroy: Since you just dropped a bomb on us, we get to pick the restaurant.
Rachel: Sounds reasonable to me. Ā Let me take care of one more thing. Ā Iāll meet you at the car.
[Both parents kiss their daughter and walk outside leaving Rachel alone in the room]
-----
Well, tonight didnāt exactly go as planned, but I suppose it could have been worse. Ā Theyāre not only still talking to me, but theyāve agreed to help me prepare for the wedding *grins and squeals* Iām getting married!
My name is Katherine Wilde, but I go by Kitty. Iām twenty-six years old, and Iām originally from New York City. I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina with my best friend a couple years ago, and now I work as teen librarian. I honestly donāt have a good reason for signing up for this show. My best friend was trying out, so I did it, too. Just for fun, know? I never imagined that Iād actually get chosen. But Iām optimistic that I could find true love through this experiment. I mean, isnāt that why weāre all here?
-----
[Kitty is shown knocking on the door of a hotel room suite. An older man answers the door. He and Kitty embrace.
Kitty: Hi daddy. Itās so good to see you!
Adam: Itās good to see you, too, Kitten. Now why donāt you come inside and tell us why you had us all fly out here.
-----
Okay, so hereās the thing. I never actually told my family that I was signing up for this show mostly because I just know that theyāre going to hate the idea of it. Theyāre just a bunch of very private people, and the idea of putting my life - and their lives by association - is bound to cause a little chaos. Of course, they do know something big is happening. I mean, I did tell them that I had huge news for them and there would be a camera crew present, but Iām pretty sure they donāt even know that Married At First Sight even exists. Either way, this should be a highly entertaining reveal.
-----
[Kitty takes a seat on one of the armchairs as the camera scans over everyone else in the room. Her older brother, Bryce, is sitting in the armchair next to her. Her older sister Heather is sitting on one of the beds with her husband Caleb, and their three young children Devin, Michael, and Avery. Her parents Adam and Victoria are seated on the edge of the other bed.]
Kitty: Alright, as you all know, I asked you to fly out here for a very specific and important, unknown reason. Iām getting married in five days as part of the new reality show Married At First Sight, and I want all of you to be there.
Victoria: Youāre what? *her eyes are practically popping out of her head* When did this happen?
Kitty: Rachel decided to audition, and it sounded like it could be fun, so I auditioned, too. Just to be her moral support. And they picked me, so I kind of just thought āwhy not?ā *shrugs*
Heather: So youāre only doing this because Rachel is?
Kitty: No. Iām doing this because itās an opportunity for me to find true love. None of the guys Iāve been with have worked out, but theyāve got scientists finding my perfect match for me. And Iād really appreciate it if you were one of my bridesmaids. And obviously, Michael is too young to crawl his way down the aisle, but I would love it if Devin could be my ring bearer and Avery my flower girl.
Heather: I really donāt know if I want my kids to be a part of this. I mean, itās not like itās a real wedding.
-----
And hereās the part of telling my family that I was worried about. My sister will do anything in her power to make me feel like what I want is a burden on her and everyone else. So, even though having my niece and nephew in my wedding is something super important to me, sheās going to keep that from happening just to make things harder for me.
-----
Kitty: *sighs* Itās a real wedding, Heather. Itās going to be in a church with a minister and everything. Itās not like Iām standing up there playing dress up like I did when I was a kid.
Heather: Itās not a real wedding if youāve never met the groom. Why do my kids have to be a part of your social experiment?
Kitty: Because it would mean a lot to me if you could allow them to do this for me.
Heather: This is really weird, Kitty. Even you have to admit that this might be the dumbest thing that youāve ever done.
Bryce: Heather, why canāt you just be a friend? Why do you have to be such a mega-bitch? *smirks*
Heather: Because I can be. *smirks back* And while I appreciate your use of a movie quote, maybe donāt curse in front of my kids you douche nugget. *throws pillow at him*
Bryce: And douche nugget isnāt a curse word? *laughs* But seriously, if this is what Kitty wants to do, let the kids be a part of it. If this experiment ends up working out, and she stays with the guy, youāre going to feel like crap because you and the kids wonāt be in any of their wedding photos, and then youāll look like the crappy sister here.
-----
Have I mentioned that I love my brother? Seriously, heās the only sane person in this family.
-----
Heather: Fine. *sighs* Devin, Avery, and I will be in your wedding - but only if mom and dad approve of it.
Adam: *pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs before looking up at his family* Of course, we approve of it.
Victoria: We do?
Adam: If this is what Kitty wants, and if itās going to make her happy, Iām going to do what I can to make this wedding happen. I canāt say that I agree with her decision to be on this show, but I would be a pretty crappy dad if I didnāt walk my daughter down the aisle.
Kitty: Thank you, daddy. Seriously. It means the world to me that you would be supportive of my decision even when I know this isnāt what you wanted from me.
Adam: Youāre welcome. And besides, when have you kids ever done exactly what we wanted from you. Our last name is Wilde for a reason after all. *chuckles*
Kitty: Ha ha, Dad. Very funny.
-----
So, now we know where my brother gets it. But, in all seriousness, telling my family went a lot better than expected. Even if my sister had to be guilted into being a part of my wedding, Iām confident that my family will be supportive of me on wedding day. And if they arenāt, theyāll at least attempt to fake it, and really, thatās all I can hope to ask.
Sometimes youāre presented with an opportunity that surprises and thrills you for many reasons and youāre just like why the hell not! āSup Brittany S Pierce, here. 27, writer, daughter, sister and all around awesome person. You are probably like, āsheās super hot and charismatic shouldnāt she have already found her equally hot lady or guy?ā Itās true, Iāve had my fair share of action, but finding something more substantial, thatās been a little difficult. I have always wanted a family, a super diverse family. One asian child from an asian country, one black child from America, one black child from an African country, one black child from a Latin country, one brown child from a Latin country, and one white child from a Latin country. Everyone knows two loving parents are better than one. Just as much as I want a family, Iād like a partner. Someone to care for and laugh with and cook noodles for and have awesome sex with. Fingers crossed.
-----
[A family game of pictionary is under way, and Brittany is winning by a ridiculous amount of points, partially because she fudges the points a little but mostly because she is extremely good at pictionary. Brittany draws a picture of an eyeball, a diamond ring next to a wedding dress, an aisle in the middle of pews on the large pad of paper.]
Pierce:Ā Julia Roberts!
Whitney: Oh, good job, honey. Runaway Bride, I love that movie.
Brittany:Ā Wrong!
Kelly: Clearly if it were the movie, the answer would be the movie not the actress. Eye⦠um⦠Bride⦠wedding⦠ringā¦
Pierce: I am a bride on a mission to get a ring!
Kelly: No, dad. What even is that? Britt, thatās lame
Brittany:Ā No Kell, Dadās got this one⦠sort of. Ā Uh, well.. The show found someone for me with there super accurate scientology science and we are getting married in a couple weeks!
Pierce & Whitney: *Stares blankly before laughing together.*
Whitney: Good one, honey
Brittany: No mom, really. Iām getting married.
[A moment of silence settles]
Pierce & Whitney: *Stares blankly* Right. *cheers in unison*
Kelly: Wait a minute. Stop. You are telling me you are actually going to marry a complete stranger who we donāt know who could be a psychotic ax murderer?
Brittany: Yup, thatās what Iām telling you. *smiles*
Kelly: *looks around the room* No one is concerned about this.
Pierce: Iām sure Britt knows what sheās doing and we just want her to be happy⦠right? *looks over at his youngest daughter.
Kelly:Ā Yeah, I mean yeah of course. Congrats, I guess, Britt.
Whitney: *Looks concerned but then smiles* If this is what you want , honey Iām so happy for you.
Brittany: Thanks guys. I appreciate it. So clear your schedules because there is going to be a wedding in two weeks!
Kelly:Ā I hope the new dress youāre going to buy me for this thing is really nice.
