He realized just after he said it that his words might be cause for concern, so he quickly tried to follow up with an explanation.

“Ah.. what I mean by that is.. uh..” he paused, trying to figure out how to phrase this properly.

“..well, you asked what’s been going on so.. I guess first thing is that I was finally able to move out of an emotionally abusive household.” He snaps his fingers, making finger guns for comedic effect that rested against G’s back. All to try and keep the mood more lighthearted. It may have been a heavier topic, but it was still genuinely really good news.

A mix of emotions flickers over G’s face — guilt (had he known about that relationship? He can’t remember…); joy for you finally being free; anger(the thought of anyone hurting you, emotionally or otherwise, makes him want to hit something for just a moment…)

As soon as Sun and Moon actually saw and realized that Reader was coughing up handfuls of flowers, which would take a while because Reader is, as usual, prone to hiding their issues from others bc they don’t want to bother anyone eVEN AS THEY ARE ACTIVELY DYING, they definitely would know what it was. At that point, they would already have feelings for Reader, but wouldn’t have hanahaki disease themselves bc reasons, so naturally they’d be heartbroken thinking Reader liked someone else and not them (bc to them it was impossible for Reader to NOT KNOW how much they liked them so clearly they had to like someone else right???) but they would love Reader too much to turn their backs on them and they would do everything they could to help them A: come to terms with the reality that they did, in fact, have hanahaki disease and B: try to figure who was the root cause and what to do about it

I rediscovered this classical song I really love called “Le Matin”, which means “the morning”, and I thought you might wanna give it a listen. ^w^

The irony of this song being called "the morning" but it instead is so soothing I could fall asleep listening. 😴

He felt his emotions surge again and scrunched up his face, doing his best to shove the emotions down. He took in a deep breath and slowly let it out.

The end of his tail curled and uncurled repeatedly to try and dispel the extra energy of his emotions. His wings extended somewhat, fighting the urge to wrap G up in a tight feathery hug.

“Thank you,” he says meaningfully.

“I love you,” G said, and wished he could say more. I’m sorry. I wish I could have been here. I wish I could have taken you with me.

He settled for just wrapping his other arm around you, gently rubbing your back. It wasn’t anybody’s fault that he’d been on a big case. It wasn’t anybody’s fault that it had required him to go away for so long, or than he hadn’t been able to ask you to come with him. It was dangerous and important, and it was nobody’s fault so that guilty feeling gnawing at his soul could just STOP IT already!

Reader in that AU is spirit sensitive, which is a fake thing im going to say means that they can see and feel and touch ghosts and spirits, which is enough to get them witch'd out to begin with, BUT they were learning how to make medicine and herbal remedies from the ghost of an extremely dead (also alleged witch) local doctor from several generation ago.

I said I'd take these all weekend and it's still the weekend, so you are fine. 😊

The hardest part of this prank was waiting for G to fall asleep. Normally the man could nap anywhere, any time, but today he was just wide awake! You did everything you could to get him to take a darn nap. You wondered if he knew you were up to something or if this was just his April Fool's prank--sleepy skeleton is suddenly full of energy.

Finally, finally, after a long walk, a movie, popcorn, and a lot of snuggling, he drifted off. You'd planned ahead and set your bag of tricks where you could reach it, even with his skull in your lap. You carefully pulled out your paints and got to work.

The nice thing about G was that once he was napping, it took a lot to wake him up. That meant you had plenty of time to really...get creative. When you finished, you took a picture of your handiwork. You were in the middle of sending it to all your friends (and G's brother) when he finally sat up and stretched.

"Mm...thanks for bein' my pillow, lovely. That was a great nap." He turned and grinned at you.

You couldn't help a little giggle. "Um, G, while you were sleeping, I might have, um, gotten something on your face," you said.

His hands flew to his skull. "What? What kind of something?"

"Go check in the bathroom mirror," you suggested.

He jumped up and raced off to the bathroom. You heard him exclaim, "Stars above!" and then heard him racing back.

You weren't expecting to be pulled into a giant hug. "You painted me!" G said gleefully. "You turned me into a masterpiece! How'd you do that?"

"April Fool's," you said, hugging him back. "I take it you like it?"

You and G walked hand in hand along one of the trails in the park. Above you, the trees had turned red and orange and gold. Some of the leaves floated down around you.

"Hang on, lovely," G said, stopping suddenly. "Ya got somethin' in your hair." He gently pulled a red leaf out of your hair.

"Oh, it's so pretty!" you said. You remembered something you'd been meaning to try. "Let's see if we can find other ones and we can press them!"

"Press them?"

"You put the leaves in a book and pile big heavy books on top of them. They dry out and then you can use them in scrapbooking and stuff."

G raised his browbones, but he tucked the red leaf into his inventory. "Let's do it," he said.
