Columbia, SC (8): A VERY big decision

This was the rally I inadvertently came across, while taking pictures. And holy cow, if I'd have known the magnitude of it all, I'd have stayed longer! Here's a bit of background information as to what was going on: 

South Carolina State University, in nearby Orangeburg, is the state's only Black College. In 2014 an accrediting agency placed it on probation. This raised questions about what money was being spent on, and reopened a lot of old wounds concerning some negative racial stereotypes. (I.E. the ever bunk and racist one about Black colleges not being up to par with White institutions, due to money mismanagement.) The SC legislature was threatening to close the college down over the next 2 years while all debts were paid off. And, with all the CSA stuff I've posted, not to mention a look at the state's racial history, you can understand why the Black community in South Carolina was concerned about the college being closed for that length of time. 

Fortunately this rally didn't go unheeded. Legislators recently advised they'd carefully scrutinize SC State's financial and academic programs, but vowed to keep the institution open.
