It hurt Jennifer to think back on what had happened, the choices she felt she’d had no actual choice in. She knew she didn’t want any of that for Isaac, her son nursing in her arms.
Jennifer: *quietly* I am going to get you away from this life. You and Mommy are going to go somewhere and we can have a chance to be good. I’m saving up, and I’m going to convince Nanny Delilah to come with us, I wouldn’t be brave enough to be here without her
Jennifer couldn’t deny she loved Delilah. Things would have been much easier if she didn’t. She could have left that house that very second with her son in her arms and not looked back, after all that’s what her mother was afraid of. But Jennifer wanted to be someone worthy of Isaac, worthy of Delilah. Her pattern of selfishness needed to end.
Jennifer: I want you to know lying is bad. I shouldn’t be lying to Delilah about you, but you are too important to me to risk losing. I’m lying for the greater good. When I can safely tell her the truth, I will
Isaac seemed to have lost interest in his bottle, so Jennifer burped him as she heard me and the playmat making our way downstairs.
Delilah: Sorry it took so long. I realised I hadn’t tidied the second lounge and if Nguyen comes home and sees it like that he gets mad. Please don’t tell your mother I left you and Isaac alone for more than a minute. Looks like everything was fine though
Jennifer: *smiles* Yeah, he’s the perfect nephew
