Oman trip - Part 1
Day 3:
Headed off on a sunny morning south from Khasab and turned off towards Sayh & Wadi Bih. This is where the tarred road ended and the track began.
Spectacular scenery and an interesting drive on a track that wound up the mountains to the Sayh Plateau, sometimes quite steeply. Not much traffic around fortunately, as the the track was only wide enough for one vehicle in many places. An exciting drive!
Stopped after the Sayh Plateau for a walk to the viewpoint over the Gulf known as 'Stairway to heaven'. Was a steep walk to start with, and took us a lot longer than expected, but the view was worth the effort.
Drove on further south around Jebel Al Harim (the highest mountain in Oman) to the viewpoint over Wadi Bih, where we turned around and retraced the route back to the tarred road. Turned right at the end and drove until the road ended at Ar' Khalidiya - the acacia forest.
Set up camp for the night and got the barbecue and campfire going as the sun set. Very quiet spot, and clear skies gave us a great view of the night sky - something we miss in Abu Dhabi.
