The first half hour is just John getting medical treatment that he so desperately needs. He has a fantasy about teaching a thief a lesson but that is about all the SAW activity that happens. Don’t get me wrong, I love Tobin Bell and love seeing John Kramer alive but this is boring. John, being a classy guy, goes to give a bottle of tequila to the folks that housed him, but when he gets there he finds the place destroyed and learns he never had any surgery done to him, it was all some sort of cruel joke (they stole his money). Now he is going to make all of those who tricked him pay in a very gruesome way. His first victim, the taxi driver and his fake surgeon gets pipe bombs sewn into his arms with wires. John gets all the information he needs to take down the rest of the people who are still trying to spin the narrative that they can save him. “That game is over, and a new game is about to begin.”

Excruciating is the word I would use for the punishment where the girl either cuts off her own leg or gets her head cut off. I had to pause in the middle and my dog came over to check on me, I was making yucky noises so loudly. It was just so much blood and so much pain, I could feel it through the screen! Yuck! And she still got her head cut off! I kind of had a feeling that would happen anyway, ugh. How awful. Again we have someone very willing to jump into a dead body and play around in the organs just like in No Escape/Follow Me. I get that she wants to use the intestines as a rope but still it is really very wack. 

This movie is so brutal, the guy who pretended to be the anesthesiologist is now tasked with performing brain surgery on himself with no anesthesia. Wack and a half. He doesn’t survive either. Man, three minutes is just not enough time for them to do the thing they need to do and then the machine to measure whatever it needs to measure. They keep having to go through the painful event and then “failing” anyway which feels a little unfair because if they just had a second or two more they would be “fine”. 

The next “victim” gets a high dose of radiation to the face but here is where things get off the rails, she survives her test but then the main bad lady takes over control from John and locks him and Amanda up (oh, yeah, by the way, Amanda is here too) this bad lady even brings an innocent kid into the situation and waterboards him with blood! Wack! The most wack thing about it is that John foresaw this outcome and set up the game so the bad lady would still lose even if he got caught. But that still meant he knew he and someone would be bloodboarded, I guess he had hoped it would be Amanda and not a literal kid. John wins in the end by sealing the bad lady in a room full of poison. We even got a little Hoffman at the end there, and I didn’t realize how much I missed that mess of a man but there he was and I was beaming.
