Pros Off Duty
All of the Pro-Hero photocards I've been working on for the past year. This has been such a fun project, and I love getting to show love to characters that don't get nearly enough of it!
I might do one more round of characters after this, so are there any that I've missed?

The Space Between Wings
When Hawks’ jealousy over Y/N’s growing friendship with Dabi drives a wedge between them, years of unspoken feelings and buried insecurities finally come to light. Through heartbreak, honest communication, and forgiveness, the two discover that love is stronger than fear.
Word count 3.3k
You woke up in Keigo Takami’s bed to warm sunlight spilling across your face.
With a sleepy groan, you squinted against the brightness and reached across the mattress, expecting to find the familiar warmth of his body.
Your fingers met cold sheets. The empty space made your chest ache.
Not because he’d left, that wasn’t unusual anymore. But because he hadn’t held you in days.
You sat up, rubbing the sleep from your eyes as you scanned the room. Your gaze landed on him. His broad back faced you, muscles shifting beneath pale skin as he pulled a black shirt over his head. The golden feathers of his wings ruffled once before settling.
“Kei…?”
His movements paused for only a second. He didn’t turn around.
“…Hm.”
“What are you doing?”
“I got called into work.” His voice was flat. Empty.
He shrugged on his tan fur-lined jacket, grabbed his gloves, and walked straight out of the bedroom.
The door clicked shut.
No “See you later.”, or a teasing smile, not even a glance.
You stared at the closed door for a long moment before snatching a pillow and throwing it as hard as you could. It bounced off the wood with a pathetic thud.
“…Asshole.”
Silence answered.
You buried your face in your hands.
What happened to him?
Everything had changed the moment you started spending more time with Dabi.
It wasn’t intentional. Some nights you’d stop in an alley way after patrol just to decompress. Other nights you’d walk through the city together in comfortable silence, the cool night air replacing conversations neither of you had the energy for.
Neither of you had to explain yourselves. You just…understood. Both of you knew what it felt like to grow up broken. To be raised by people who should’ve loved you but didn’t. To carry scars no one could see.
Your stories weren’t identical, but they were similar enough that the words came easily between you.
You never had to pretend around him. You never had to smile.
It wasn’t romantic. It never had been. Itwas two damaged people recognizing the same cracks in each other.
Nothing more. Unfortunately… that was enough.
Keigo noticed.
At first it was the little things.
The way Dabi already knew when you needed quiet, or how you laughed at jokes no one else understood.
Then came the realization Keigo hated most. There were pieces of you he couldn’t reach. Pieces Dabi understood instinctively because he’d lived through the same hell.
The thought gnawed at him. He hated it. Hated himself even more for feeling that way.
You weren’t his girlfriend. He had no right to be jealous. …So why did it feel like someone was stealing you away?
He’d loved you for years. From the moment he’d first seen you. Days blurred back to the nice moments. Such as bathing each other after long days, sleeping together on the couch with your bodies tangled, making love as if it was your last time seeing each other.
Everyone already assumed you were dating.
Honestly… so had he.
You acted like a couple. You knew fears, passions, nightmares, secrets , every scar carved across each other on the inside and out He knew exactly how to calm you when anxiety overwhelmed you. You knew precisely how to pull him out of his own head after difficult missions.
Somewhere along the way… He forgot he’d never actually asked you to be his. He’d convinced himself there was no rush. That you’d always be there.
Now every time he saw you beside Dabi… That confidence cracked a little more.
Instead of admitting he was scared or telling the truth, heshut down.
Eye contact disappeared, conversations became one-word answers, his voice lost its warmth. He stopped touching you. Every passing day felt colder than the last.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next afternoon the Commission paired the two of you together to investigate reports of a villain with a laser quirk targeting convenience stores.
Normally, patrols with Keigo were your favorite.
Today… You wished you’d been assigned literally anyone else. The city bustled around you while the two of you walked in complete silence.
His hands stayed buried in his pockets. Your eyes stayed fixed on the sidewalk. The distance between you somehow felt wider than the entire street.
You counted your footsteps instead of looking at him.
One.
Two.
Three.
“Cross.”
His low voice startled you. You looked up to realize he’d stopped at the crosswalk while the pedestrian light flashed white.
“Oh…”
Embarrassed, you hurried across.
“Yeah.”
He walked ahead without another word.
Your throat tightened. Every second felt heavier than the last. Were you supposed to be angry? Upset? Confused? Or guilty? You still didn’t even know what you’d done wrong. The lump in your throat grew painful as you fought back tears.
Seriously? Trying not to cry during a routine patrol?
Get it together.
Before your emotions could betray you-
“Well, well. Look what we have here.” A familiar arm draped comfortably across your shoulders.
You looked up. Mt. Lady grinned down at you.
“What’ve you two lovebirds been up to today?”
Neither of you answered. Hawks kept walking. Didn’t even acknowledge her.
“…Wow.” She blinked after him before looking back at you.
“Tough crowd.” A weak laugh escaped you.
“Jeez, Bird Brain.” She called after him. “You got a stick up your ass today or something?”
Without slowing down, he answered over his shoulder. “Fuck off, blondie.”
“Ouch.” She laughed. “See? That’s exactly what I’m talking about.” She squeezed your shoulders playfully. “Don’t let his bad mood infect you, cutie.” Then, before you could react- She squished your cheeks together.
“Aww… look at this face.”
Your eyes widened.
“You’re making the poor thing look miserable.”
Keigo stopped walking. For the first time all day… he looked at you. His amber eyes lingered on your face. On the sadness you’d been trying so hard to hide.
Then they shifted to Mt. Lady’s arm still resting around your shoulders. Something flashed across his expression.
Jealousy. It disappeared so quickly you almost thought you imagined it. His jaw tightened.
Without a word… he turned away again and kept walking. Your stomach dropped. Heat rushed to your face. God… That was humiliating.
Mt. Lady didn’t know. She had no idea something was wrong between the two of you. She thought she was helping.
But watching Keigo look away like that… It hurt more than you’d expected.
Thankfully, Mt. Lady tagged along for the rest of patrol. She filled the silence with endless stories, gossip about hero rankings, complaints about interviews, and dramatic retellings of ridiculous villains she’d arrested.
Normally, Hawks would’ve interrupted every other sentence just to tease her. Today…he barely spoke at all. And somehow… that silence hurt more than any argument ever could.
By the time ten o’clock rolled around, your shift was finally over.
“Okay! See you guys later!” Mt. Lady called with a cheerful wave as she climbed into her car.The engine roared to life before she pulled out of the parking lot, leaving you alone with Keigo.
Silence settled between you. The nearly empty parking lot was washed in the pale glow of streetlights, their light catching the tired look on your face.
Neither of you moved. Or spoke.
Finally, Keigo broke the silence.
“You gonna sleep at mine?” His voice was quiet.Flat. Like he was asking because he felt obligated to, not because he actually wanted an answer.
The familiar ache returned to your throat. You stared at the asphalt. “…Why?” Your voice trembled.
“So you can ignore me all night too?” The words came out shakier than you’d intended.
You bit the inside of your cheek, fighting the tears threatening to spill. The only sound was the soft chorus of crickets somewhere beyond the parking lot.
Keigo’s back was turned to you. His hands remained buried in his jacket pockets. “…Fine.”
His voice was cold enough to make your stomach twist.
“Go see Dabi.” A pause. “That’s where you wanna be anyway.”
Your head snapped up. “…Seriously?” Disbelief quickly turned into anger. “So that’s what this has been about?”
Your voice rose. “Dabi?”
A bitter laugh escaped you. “You’re jealous?” A sob caught in your throat. “Are we actually doing this?”
He still didn’t turn around. Your frustration finally exploded.
“You’ve ignored me for two weeks!” Your voice cracked. “You’ve looked right through me like I wasn’t even there!” Tears streamed freely now.
“I kept wondering what I did wrong!”
“What I said!”
“What I could’ve fixed!”
“I cried almost every night because I thought you didn’t want me around anymore!”Your breathing became uneven. “And the whole time…” You laughed bitterly through your tears. “It was because you’re jealous of Dabi?”
The words echoed through the empty parking lot. He didn’t answer. That hurt more than if he had. You marched over and began pounding your fists against his back. Not hard enough to hurt him. Just enough to let your frustration out.
“You idiot!” Another hit.
“You absolute asshole!” Another.
“I thought I was losing you!” Your fists slowed as another sob escaped.
“…Look at me.” Another weak hit. “Please…” Your voice shattered.
“Just… look at me.”
Before you could pull your hand back again, he turned. Strong arms wrapped around you so suddenly that the breath left your lungs. Your forehead was pressed firmly against his chest.
You struggled instinctively.
“No!” You pushed weakly against him.
“Kei-”
His embrace only tightened. You wanted to stay angry. You wanted to shove him away. Tell him how badly he’d hurt you. Tell him he didn’t get to hug you after making you feel invisible for weeks.
But…
His familiar scent surrounded you. The steady beat of his heart echoed beneath your ear. The warmth of his body was everything you’d missed. Your strength disappeared. Your hands slowly curled into the fabric of his jacket. The sob you’d been holding back finally broke free.
Keigo gently rocked you back and forth. One hand rubbed slow circles across your back.
“I’m sorry…” His voice was barely above a whisper.
“So damn sorry.” He rested his cheek against your hair.
“I didn’t know how to tell you.”
Another long silence. “I was scared.” His confession was so quiet you almost missed it. “I know Dabi understands parts of you that I never will.”
His grip tightened slightly. “You two have lived through things I can’t relate to.”
“And every time I thought…” His voice caught. “…Maybe one day you’ll realize he understands you better than I ever could.”
His breathing became shaky. “I kept thinking…that I’d already waited too long.”
A soft kiss landed against the top of your head. “I never asked you to be mine.”
Another kiss. “I just assumed…”
Another. “…that you’d always stay.”
He let out a quiet, humorless laugh. “I was terrified you’d wake up one day and choose someone who deserved you more.”
You froze. For the first time in weeks… you finally understood. It wasn’t anger and it wasn’t resentment. It was fear.
“I don’t want to lose you.” His voice cracked. “I don’t think I could handle it.”
Your eyes squeezed shut. You still wanted to be angry. Part of you was.
He’d hurt you. He’d made you question everything. But hearing the desperation in his voice… Feeling the way he held you like you might disappear if he loosened his grip… You couldn’t bring yourself to push him away.
Keigo slowly leaned back just enough to look at you. His amber eyes were red around the edges. He cupped your face with both hands as if you were something fragile. His thumbs gently brushed away the tears staining your cheeks.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered again.
You searched his face. Only guilt. Only regret. Only love.
Without another word, he slipped one arm beneath your knees and lifted you effortlessly into his arms.
A startled gasp left your lips.
“Kei-“ You instinctively wrapped your legs around his waist as his arms settled securely around you. “What are you doing?”
A small smile, his first real one in weeks, finally appeared. His crimson wings burst open. With one powerful beat, the ground disappeared beneath you. The sudden rush of wind stole your breath.
You grabbed onto his jacket. “Keigo!”
He chuckled softly, the sound warm and familiar again. “I know, you hate when I do that.”
You buried your face against his shoulder, half laughing through your tears. “You’re such a jerk.”
“I know.”
Your face grew warm. “…Shut up.”
His laugh echoed into the cool night air. He held you a little tighter. “Just trust me..”
You could hear the smile in his voice.
Part of you wished you could see it, but your face was still buried against his chest, hidden beneath the warmth of his jacket and the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
With a few powerful beats of his wings, the city shrank beneath you. A moment later, Keigo landed lightly atop one of the tallest rooftops overlooking Musutafu.
The skyline stretched endlessly before you.
Windows glowed like scattered stars, traffic drifted through the streets in ribbons of white and red, and somewhere below, distant laughter mixed with the hum of the city that never truly slept.
It was beautiful.
He carefully set you back on your feet before taking a seat on the edge of the rooftop, resting his elbows on his knees as he admired the view.
You smoothed the wrinkles out of your hero suit before settling beside him.“You should really start warning me before you do that.”
He glanced sideways with a grin.
“Nah.” His wings twitched lazily. “I kinda like when you’re irritated.”
“It’s cute.”
You rolled your eyes. “It startled me. I don’t like it.”
He laughed.
“You’re a pro hero.” He reached over, one crimson feather drifting toward your face. “You aren’t allowed to get startled.” The feather brushed against your cheek.
You scrunched your face, trying to swat it away as it tickled your skin. “Keii…” Your laugh slipped out before you could stop it.
He laughed too.
For the first time in weeks… It felt normal. When the laughter faded, silence settled between you again. Comfortable this time.
You watched the lights below.
“…Hey.”
“Hm?” He turned toward you.
You hesitated. “About Dabi…”
His shoulders stiffened ever so slightly. You noticed.
“…We share something horrible.” You looked down at your hands. He understands parts of my childhood because… he lived through something similar.”
You swallowed. “I trust you with everything, Kei, youknow that. I’d trust you with my life.”
“But…” You searched for the right words. “Sometimes you just need someone who understands what you’re talking about without having to explain every little detail.”
He stayed quiet. His gaze drifted back toward the city. You could almost see the conflict in his eyes.
He understood. Even if he hated it.
“I never meant to make you feel like you were second.” Your voice softened.
“And…” You sighed. “If I was getting closer to him than I realized…”
“I’m sorry.”
“I should’ve noticed how it looked.” The confession hung between you.
After a long silence, you scooted closer until your shoulder brushed his. You gently reached for his hand. His fingers instinctively intertwined with yours. Your thumb slowly rubbed over his knuckles.
“You’ll always be my first choice.”
His heart seemed to stop.
“You’ll always be the person I run to.”
A tiny smile tugged at the corner of his lips. You rested your head against his shoulder.
“I love talking to you.”
“I love being around you.”
“…I love you.”
“So don’t ever think someone could replace you.” His arm slipped around your shoulders almost immediately. He pulled you beneath one of his soft crimson wings until your head rested comfortably against his chest.
“I’m sorry.” His voice was quiet. He let out a small, embarrassed laugh.
“I handled this like a complete idiot.”
You smiled against his shirt. “Yeah.”
“I was kind of hoping you wouldn’t agree so fast.”
“I wanted to make sure you knew.”
He laughed again. The sound was lighter than it had been in weeks.
The cool breeze drifted across the rooftop while the city sparkled below. Neither of you spoke for several minutes. There wasn’t anything left to say. His fingers absentmindedly traced slow circles along your arm beneath his wing.
It was comforting.
Safe.
Home.
Then..
“Be my girlfriend.”
The words were so quiet you almost thought you’d imagined them.
“…What?” Your head shot up.
He still hadn’t looked at you. His eyes remained fixed on the skyline, though the tips of his ears had turned a noticeable shade of pink.
“You heard me.” A nervous chuckle escaped him.
“I’ve waited years.”
“I don’t really want to wait anymore.”
He finally looked at you. Amber eyes, usually so confident, searched yours almost anxiously.
“So…”
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
Your heart leapt into your throat. For so long, you’d convinced yourself Keigo wasn’t interested in labels. That what the two of you had was enough.
But hearing him ask… actually ask… made every doubt disappear. A huge smile spread across your face before you threw your arms around him.
He let out a surprised laugh. “Whoa”
You squeezed him tighter.
“Careful!”
“I still need my ribs!”
Instead of answering… You kissed him. It was gentle at first. Soft.
Everything the last few weeks hadn’t been. He melted into it almost instantly. His hands found your waist as he pulled you closer, smiling against your lips. When the kiss finally ended, he rested his forehead against yours.
You smiled, brushing a strand of messy blond hair away from his forehead. He stole one more quick kiss.
He stood, offering you his hand with that familiar cocky grin finally back where it belonged.
“Let’s go home.”
