In politics, there’s this attitude, you can observe regulary in various historical contexts and countries: the expectation that some hero will save your country. I’ve seen it again during the last elections in France. And I believe this is such a dangerous expectation, to expect radical changes coming from a single person, the leader of a party. Germans also saw a savior and a hero in Hitler, who will save them from the economical crisis, when they elected him. Look at what happened. No matter how severe the problems are in your country, the idea that a man will bring (almost) alone really big changes in your country remains harmful. In the best case, he’ll bring minor improvements without going at the root of the problem. In the worst case, he’ll be a tyran, who’ll govern in a violent and oppressive way- which happened far too often and is still happening in many places in the world. So no matter, how interesting and attractive,the ideas of a politician seem, never wait until a leader has all the power. Instead the population needs to be united together and work on improvements through activism and resistance.
